Conceptual Object Grouping for Multimedia Document Management

  • Increase of multimedia information in Web requires a new method to manage and service multimedia documents efficiently. This paper proposes a conceptual object grouping method by fuzzy filtering, which is automatically constituted based on increase of multimedia documents. The proposed method composes subsumption relations between conceptual objects automatically using fuzzy filtering of the document objects that are extracted from domains. Grouping of such conceptual objects is regarded as subsumption relation which is decided by $\mu$-cut. This paper proposes $\mu$-cut, FAS(Fuzzy Average Similarity) and DSR(Direct Subsumption Relation) to decide fuzzy filtering, which groups related document objects easily. This paper used about 1,000 conceptual objects in the performance test of the proposed method. The simulation result showed that the proposed method had better retrieval performance than those for OGM(Optimistic Genealogy Method) and BGM(Balanced Genealogy Method).

동속압연과 이속압연이 동합금판재의 조직 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Conventional Rolling and Differential Speed Rolling on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Copper Alloy Sheet)

  • The effects of conventional rolling (CR) and differential speed rolling (DSR) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a copper alloy sheet were investigated in detail. A copper alloy with thickness of 3 mm was rolled to a 50% reduction at ambient temperature without lubrication with a differential speed ratio of 2:1; sample was then annealed for 0.5h at various temperatures from 100 to $800^{\circ}C$. Conventional rolling, in which the rolling speed of the upper and lower rolls is identical, was performed under the same rolling conditions. The shear strain introduced by the CR showed positive values at positions on the upper roll side and negative values at positions on the lower roll side. However, the shear strain showed a zero or positive value at all positions for the samples rolled by the DSR. The microstrucure and mechanical properties of the as-rolled copper alloy did not show very significant differences between the CR and DSR for the microstructure and mechanical properties. However, those properties showed very significant differences in the case of the annealed samples. The effects of rolling method on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the as-rolled and subsequently annealed materials are discussed in terms of the shear strain.

종단간 끊김없는 연결과 TCP 성능의 향상을 위한 무선 홈네트워크 플랫폼에 관한 연구 (A Study on Wireless Home Network Platform for End-to-End Seamless Connection and TCP Performance Improvement)

  • 인프라스트럭처 모드 기반의 무선랜(Wireless Local Area Networks)을 사용하는 무선 홈네트워크에서는 모든 무선 단말간의 통신이 액세스포인트를 통하여 이루어진다. 따라서 무선 단말이 음영 지역(Dead Zone)으로 이동하면 이동한 무선 단말과 액세스포인트간의 통신이 불가능하여 끊김없는 연결(Seamless Connection)을 제공하지 못하는 문제점이 있다. 기존의 무선 홈네트워크 플랫폼에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 애드 혹 모드로 동작하는 무선 홈네트워크 구조에 대하여 연구하고 있지만, 애드 혹 모드 기반의 무선랜은 인프라스트럭처 모드 기반 무선랜에 비하여 네트워크 용량이 제한되는 문제가 있다. 그리고 무선 단말의 이동성을 지원하기 위해서는 애드 혹 라우팅 기법이 필요하다. 그러나 기존의 AODV 및 DSR 라우팅 기법은 무선 채널 정보를 참조하지 않고 네트워크 계층에서 독립적으로 라우팅을 수행하기 때문에 무선 채널의 상황에 빠르게 대처할 수 없어 끊김없는 연결을 제공할 수 없다. 이에 본 논문에서는 종단간 끊김없는 데이터전송을 보장하기 위한 ESCOD(End-to-end Seamless multi-hop COnnection based on Dual network mode) 기반의 무선 홈네트워크 플랫폼과 VLR(Virtual Link Routing) 기법을 제안하였다. 구현된 시스템의 성능을 평가한 결과, VLR을 탑재한 ESCOD 기반의 무선 홈네트워크 플랫폼은 기존의 AODV 및 DSR 라우팅 보다 낮은 패킷 전송의 실패율과 빠른 패킷의 평균 전송시간을 제공함과 동시에 기존 인프라스트럭처 모드만을 제공하는 무선 홈네트워크 플랫폼보다 넓은 통신 범위와 향상된 TCP 성능을 확인하였다.

Sulfate Reduction for Bioremediation of AMD Facilitated by an Indigenous Acid- and Metal-Tolerant Sulfate-Reducer

  • Acid mine drainage (AMD) has been a serious environmental issue that threatens soil and aquatic ecosystems. In this study, an acid-tolerant sulfate-reducing bacterium, strain S4, was isolated from the mud of an AMD storage pond in Vietnam via enrichment in anoxic mineral medium at pH 5. Comparative analyses of sequences of the 16S rRNA gene and dsrB gene involved in sulfate reduction revealed that the isolate belonged to the genus Desulfovibrio, and is most closely related to Desulfovibrio oxamicus (with 99% homology in 16S rDNA sequence and 98% homology in dsrB gene sequence). Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analyses of dsrB gene showed that strain S4 represented one of the two most abundant groups developed in the enrichment culture. Notably, strain S4 was capable of reducing sulfate in low pH environments (from 2 and above), and resistance to extremely high concentration of heavy metals (Fe 3,000 mg/l, Zn 100 mg/l, Cu 100 mg/l). In a batch incubation experiment in synthetic AMD with pH 3.5, strain S4 showed strong effects in facilitating growth of a neutrophilic, metal sensitive Desulfovibrio sp. strain SR4H, which was not capable of growing alone in such an environment. Thus, it is postulated that under extreme conditions such as an AMD environment, acid- and metal-tolerant sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB)-like strain S4 would facilitate the growth of other widely distributed SRB by starting to reduce sulfate at low pH, thus increasing pH and lowering the metal concentration in the environment. Owing to such unique physiological characteristics, strain S4 shows great potential for application in sustainable remediation of AMD.

무선 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크의 서비스 수명을 위한 클러스터 라우팅 (Cluster Routing for Service Lifetime of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks)

  • 본 논문에서는 무선 멀티미디어 센서 네트워크의 서비스 수명 보장을 위해 클러스터 기반의 새로운 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안한다. 제안된 프로토콜은 무선 센서 멀티미디어 컴퓨팅 환경에서 에너지 소모를 줄이고 서비스 오류를 줄이기 위해 인트라 클러스터 라우팅과 인터 클러스터 라우팅을 수행한다. 또한 제안된 클러스터 라우팅은 라우팅 신뢰성을 향상시키고, 패킷 손실을 최소화하며, 관리 오버헤드를 최소화하고, 에너지 소모를 최소화한다. 본 논문에서는 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해서 제안된 기법이 DSR (Dynamic Source Routing) 기법, AODV(Adhoc On-demand Distance Vector routing) 기법에 비해서 효율성이 우수함을 보인다.

국내 스트레이트 아스팔트의 거동 특성 연구 (A Study on Rheological Behavior of Korean Straight Asphalts)

  • 본 논문은 국내 정유사에서 생산되는 도로 포장용 아스팔트에 대하여 노화에 따른 거동 특성을 파악하였다. 이를 위해 국내의 5개 정유회사에 생산되는 두가지 등급의 아스팔트 제품(침입도 85-100, 침입도 60-70)을 포함한 총 9종에 대하여 노화 단계별(노화 이전, 단기노화, 장기노화)로 국내 스트레이트 아스팔트의 침입도$(25^{\circ}C)$, 점도$(50^{\circ}C\;135^{\circ}C)$, 연화점, 및 DSR 시험$(-20^{\circ}C\sim30^{\circ}C)$을 수행하여, 아스팔트의 물성 변화 특성을 고찰하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 스트레이트 아스팔트의 거동은 고온($60^{\circ}C$근방) 및 상온$(10-30^{\circ}C)$범위에서 정유사 제품에 따라 상당한 차이를 나타내었으며, 저온의 경우에는 정유사 제품이나 등급에 관계없이 거의 유사한 거동을 나타내었다. 따라서 어느 정유사의 아스팔트를 사용하는가에 따라, 저온에서의 온도 균열에 대한 저항성은 다소 비슷한 수준일 것으로 판단되지만, 소성변형 및 피로 균열에 대한 저항성이 상이하게 나타날 것으로 판단된다.

  • In MANET, the AODV routing protocol with on-demand method has a problem in large control packet overhead. In order to improve this, we first need a comprehensive analysis of correlation between performance metrics and factors affecting the performance of AODV. Selected parameters based on this analysis make it enable to be a more accurate and fair performance analysis, as well as to reduce the time and effort when constructing a scenario for performance analysis. In this paper, various scenarios are configured to apply AODV by varying the values of factors affecting the performance with network simulator QualNet 5.0, and then the results are analysed using performance metrics proposed by IETF MANET working group. This paper also founds a correlation between performance metrics and factors affecting the performance for AODV routing protocol, choosing the values of factors that represent many of the most maximum and minimum values of each performance metrics, and proposes optimal simulation parameters for a more accurate performance evaluation of routing protocols with minimal scenario in experiments. Next, performance comparison of AODV, DSR and DYMO routing protocols based on the proposed simulation parameters is shown which provides a comparative analysis on the performance of on-demand routing protocols. Results of this paper could be very useful for the researcher or service provider who wants to find nice simulation environment or select a proper routing protocol.

Cloning and Sequencing of the ${\alpha}-1{\rightarrow}6$ Dextransurcrase Gene from Leuconostoc mensenteroides B-742CB

  • A dextransucrase gene (dsrB742) that expresses a dextransucrase to synthesize mostly ${\alpha}-1{\rightarrow}6$ linked dextran with a low amount (3-5%) of ${\alpha}-1{\rightarrow}3$ branching was cloned and sequenced from Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-742CB. The 6.1-kb PstI fragments were ligated with pGEM-3Zf(-) and transformed into E. coli $DH5{\alpha}$. The recombinant clone (pDSRB742) synthesized dextran on an agar plate containing 2% (w/v) sucrose. The dextran synthesized was hydrolyzed with Penicillium endo-dextranase. The hydrolyzate was composed of glucose, isomaltose, isomaltotriose, and branced pentasaccharide. The nucleotide sequence of dsrB742 showed one open reading frame (ORF) composed of 4,524 bp encoding dextrasnsucrase. The deduced amino acid sequence revealed a calculated molecular mass of 168.6 kDa. It also showed an activity band of 184 kKa on a non-denaturing SDS-PAGE (10%). The amino acid sequence of DSRB742 exhibited a 50% similarity with DSRA from L. mesenteroides B-1299, a 70% similarity with DSRS from L. mesenteroides B-512 (F, FMCM) and a 45-56% similarity with Streptococcal GTFs.

Characterization of Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-742CB Dextransucrase Expressed in Escherichia coli

  • Recombinant E. coli DH5$\alpha$ harboring a dextransucrase gene (dsrB742) produced an extracellular dextransucrase in a 2% sucrose medium. The enzyme was purified by DEAE-Sepharose and Phenyl-Sepharose column chromatographies upto a 142.97-fold purification with a 11.11% recovery to near homogeneity. The enzyme had a calculated molecular mass of 168.6 kDa, which was in good agreement with the activity band of 170 kDa on a nondenaturing SDS-PAGE. An expression plasmid was constructed by inserting the dsrB742 into a pRSET expression vector. The activity after expression in E. coli BL21(DE3)pLysS increased about 6.7-fold compared to the extracellular dextransucrase from L. mesenteroides B-742CB. The expressed and purified enzyme from the clone showed similar biochemical properties (acceptor reaction, size of active dextransucrase, optimum pH, and temperature) to B-742CB dextransucrase, however, the ability to synthesize ${\alpha}$-(1$\rightarrow$3) branching decreased in comparison to that of L. mesenteroides B-742CB dextransucrase.

A Study on Design Variables for Increasing the Breaking Strength of Synthetic Fiber Chain

  • In this study, a fiber chain was developed to replace a steel chain using high-modulus polyethylene DM20. The pick count, wrapping count, and inner length were selected as the main design variables of the fiber chain and were analyzed to increase the breaking strength. Orthogonal array experiments were conducted, and the results were analyzed with respect to the breaking strength. The analysis revealed that the pick count and wrapping count had meaningful effects at significance levels within 5%. The main effect analysis revealed that a smaller pick count, larger wrapping count, and longer inner length caused the breaking strength to increase. With the wrapping count fixed at 1, a pick count less than -0.65, and an inner length greater than 0.38, the breaking strength was calculated to be greater than 300 kN. These results are expected be important factors in the derivation of an optimal combination of design variables to attain a fiber chain with a targeted strength.
