Seventeen pregnant ewes (8 superovulated and 9 non-superovulated) were used to study correlations of maternal serum progesterone concentrations with uterine and fatal weights at weeks 7 and 15 of pregnancy. Statistical analyses indicated that uterine growth during the first 7 weeks of pregnancy highly associated with maternal serum progesterone concentration (r=0.87 and 0.85, with wet and dry uterine weights, respectively). Ewes with higher maternal serum progesterone concentrations had higher total and average fetal weights at week 7 of pregnancy (r=0.89 and 0.86, respectively). At week 7 of pregnancy, wet and dry uterine weights highly correlated (p<0.01) with total and average fatal weights (r=0.99 and 0.80, 0.98 and 0.75, respectively). Maternal serum progesterone concentrations, however, did not correlate (p>0.05) with wet and dry uterine weights (r=0.36 and 0.47, respectively) and with total and average fetal weights (r=0.20 and 0.58, respectively) at week 15 of pregnancy. However, wet and dry uterine weights had high correlation with total fetal weight (r=0.97 and 0.95, respectively), without significant correlation with average fetal weight. It was concluded that during the embryonic stage of pregnancy, the levels of maternal progesterone were highly correlated with uterine and fetal growths, while during the fetal stage pregnancy, the correlation became less evident.

This experiment was to study the relationship between shoot and root system in perennial ryegrass at different stages of growth. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The dry weight of shoot was significantly correlated with the dry weight of root at both stages of growth. 2. The yield components of shoot and root systems were changed by the stages of growth. Thus, the dry weights of shoot and root were positive correlated with the number of tillers and roots at 60 days after sowing. But, the dry weights of shoot and root were positive correlated with the dry weight of root, the dry weight of tiller, length of plant and length of root at 90 days after sowing. 3. Maprirna variety was obtained a higher dry weights of shoot and root at 60 days after sowing, but, Alta variety was obtained at 90 days after sowing, respectively. 4. The dry weight of shoot was positive correlated with leaf area at both stages of growth. 5. The dry weight of shoot was significantly negative correlated with specific leaf weight at 60 days after sowing, but positive correlated with specific leaf weight at 90 days afikr sowing. 6. The dry weight of root was smcantly positive correlated with leaf area at 60 days after sowing, but not recognized at 90 days after sowing.
In developing dynamic growth model of a crop, it is important to estimate accurate dry matter partition to different parts of crop plants. Two rice varieties, Samkang and Chucheong, were transnplanted with three planting densities of 72. 90 and 120 hills per 3.3㎡ on May 30 and June 15 in 1988 to study the effect of planting density on dry matter partition in rice plants. Total dry wight per square meter of two varieteis in May 30 transplanting were greater than those in June 15 transplanting. Total dry wights were increased as planting density was increased. The response of dry weights of differents parts of rice plants per hill were decreased as the density was increased. Although the difference in dry weights of leaf blade and stem and sheath between two varieties was not great, greater ear weight of Samkang resulted in greater total dry weight than that of Chucheong. Despite of transplant in date and planting density on dry weights, the ratio of dry matter partition to different parts of rice plants at a certain growth stage remained constant. Estimated dry weights of different parts at two stages of growth based on average ratio of dry matter partition over two transplantion dates and planting densities agreed well with those observed.
The objective of this study was to make growth and yield models of sowthistle (Ixeris dentata Nakai) by using an expolinear functional equation in a closed-type plant production system. The growth and yield of hydroponically-grown sowthistle were investigated under four different planting distances ($15{\times}10$, $15{\times}15$, $15{\times}20$, and $15{\times}25$ cm). Shoot dry weights per plant was the highest at $15{\times}25$ cm, but was the lowest at $15{\times}10$ cm. Shoot dry weights per area was the highest at $15{\times}15$ cm, but was the lowest at $15{\times}25$ cm. The optimum planting density and planting distance for yield of sowthistle were 44 plants/$m^2$ and $15{\times}15$ cm, respectively. Shoot dry weights per plant and per area were showed as an expolinear type functional equation. A linear relationship between shoot dry and fresh weights was observed to be linear regardless of the planting distance. Crop growth rate, relative growth rate and lost time in an expolinear functional equation showed quadratic function form. Radiation use efficiency of sowthistle was $4.3-6.1g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$. The measured and estimated shoot dry weights showed a good agreement using days after transplanting as input data. It is concluded that the expolinear growth model can be a useful tool for quantifying the growth and yield of sowthistle in a closed-type plant production system.
To verify allelopathic effect of tomato plants a number of labovatory experiments, seed germination and seedling growth with aqueous extracts and leachates form the tomato plants, have performed. Germination percentage of the tested species was decreased by treatment with leaf, stem and root extracts as extracting time elapses. The leaf extract more inhibits the germination of the seeds than both stem and root extracts. Leachate collected from the tomato plants decreases as much as 50% of the growths in elongation as well as dry weight of seedlings of lettuce and egg plant. It is observed that with a paired-plants grown in U tube pot the tomato roots have excreted allelochemicals to inhibit the growth of the tested species and volatile substances from the tomato plants have suppressed to dry weights of lettuce, to elongation and dry weights of grapevine planted near the tomato plants.

This study was conducted to derive the optimal estimation equations for deriving the green and dry weights of Larix kaempferi (Japanese larch) and Pinus rigida (Rigida pine), which are major coniferous tree species in South Korea. The equations were then used to develop weight tables. Table development began with the sampling of 150 L. kaempferi and 90 P. rigida trees distributed throughout the national scale, after which green weights were measured on-site. Samples from each stand were then collected, and their dry weights were measured in a laboratory. The equation used to calculate green and dry weights was divided into a one-variable formula that uses only the diameter at breast height (DBH) and a two-variable equation that employs DBH and height. The equations used to estimate the green and dry weights of logs were divided into one- and two-variable equations using DBH. Statistical data, such as the fitness index (FI), root mean square error, standard error of estimation, and residual diagram, were used to verify the suitability of the estimation equations. Applicability was examined by calculating weights using the derived optimal equations. The equation W = bD+cD2 was used in measurements involving only DBH, whereas the equation W = aDbHc was employed in cases involving both diameter and height at breast height. The FI of W = bD+cD2 was 0.91, while that of W = aDbHc was 0.95, both of which are high values. With these estimation formulas, weight tables for the green and dry weights of L. kaempferi and P. rigida were prepared and compared with weight tables created 20 years ago. The green and dry weight tables of both species were larger.
This study was conducted to determine the time and methods of predicting tobacco yield, by studying the relationship of yield components to yield. 1. The relationship between each position in leaf dry weight and approached gradually each other and also correlation coefficient of top leaf was higher than that of lower leaf. The leaf dry weight per plant was highly correlated with leaf area from 16th leaf position on stalk. Leaf dry weight of each leaf position on stalk was highly correlated with leaf dry weight per plant at 14 to 16th leaf position. 2. The correlation coefficient between leaf dry weight and leaf area per plant was higher at the late growth stage than at the early growth stage, and higher between the near stages. Correlation coefficient between leaf dry weights was higher than that of leaf areas. 3. Flue-cured tobacco yield be estimated from leaf dry weight per plant at 50 to 55 days after transplanting. 4. Air-cured tobacco yield could be predicted from leaf dry weight per plant at 60 days after transplanting.
Seedling establishment of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a critical factor in production system and cultural practices. The objective of this study was to identify the components of soybean seedling developments encompassing planting dates and cultivars that respond to emergence, early growth stage and dry matter accumulation. Three soybean cultivars, Hwangkeumkong, Shinpaldalkong 2, and Pungsannamulkong, were planted at Baegsan silty loam soil. Planting date was May 13, June 3, and June 24 in 2001. Sprinkler irrigation was accompanied with 30mm after seeding for three planting dates. Soybean seedlings were sampled at the growth stages from VE to V5. Days to emergence of soybean seedlings were taken 8 at May 13 and 5 at June 24 plantings. Emergence percentage was over 90 at three planting dates. May 13 planting took 33 days and June 24 planting was 25 days for reaching V5 growth stage. Cotyledon number was decreased after V2. Significant cultivar difference was found in cotyledon dry weight until V2 which differed in seed dry weights at the planting times. Leaf and total dry weights of soybean seedlings were not differed from V1 to V3 among planting dates and cultivars. Leaf water contents were generally ranged 78 to 85%. Branch was appeared from V4. Leaf/stem ratio among cultivars was similar at five growth stages and gradually increased from 2.1 at V1 to 2.8 at V5. The results based on this experiment indicated that seedling establishment of soybean was continued from VE to V3 growth stages affecting mainly by planting date and soil moisture.
The effects of different concentrations of three amino acids as carbon and or nitrogen sources on mycelial dry weights, changes in pH values of synthetic medium, ammonia secretion and extracellular protease activity by three zoosporic fungi, pathogens of fish and shellfish, were studied. As compared with the control, the addition of isoleucine and aspartic acid as nitrogen sources were generally stimulative for mycelial dry weight production whereas phenylalanine was inhibitory irrespective to the tested fungal species. When amino acids served as carbon and nitrogen sources, the mycelial dry weights of the three fungi were increased (mostly non-significantly) relative to untreated control but weights were decreased as the concentrations of the three amino acids raised. The addition of individual amino acids as carbon and nitrogen sources to the medium significantly increased pH values of the medium comparable to the control. The addition of each of the three amino acids as carbon and nitrogen sources to the medium significantly induced ammonia secretion by the three species of zoosporic fungi. Ammonia secretion in synthetic medium amended with amino acids as nitrogen source raised by the three zoosporic fungi relative to untreated control except in case of Achlya racemosa treated with isoleucine. Extracellular protease activity was almost promoted in case of Achlya proliferoides and Saprolegnia furcata cultures treated with isoleucine and aspartic acid individually in presence of glucose and vice versa in case of phenylalanine. However, extracellular protease activity of A. racemosa decreased compared with the control at various concentrations of isoleucine and both phenylalanine and aspartic acid assumed inconsistent effects. Extracellular protease activity of the three zoosporic fungi in the medium devoid of glucose varied depending upon zoosporic fungal species, the tested amino acid and the applied concentrations. The values of protease activity were approximately less two folds than that obtained in presence of glucose.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of supporting material and ionic strength of the MS medium on growth of strawberry plantlets cultured in vitro for the rapid mass production. Explants of $Fragaria$$ananassa$ 'Houkouwase' in vitro were planted in the agar or Tosilee (commercial plug medium) medium as the supporting material and supplied with 1/4 MS, 1/2 MS or basal (as the control) MS medium in an autotrophic micropropagation. Plant height and root length were significantly greater when they were cultured in 1/2 MS medium as compared to those grown in the agar medium. Also, shoot fresh and dry weights, and leaf area in the 1/2 MS medium were greater than in 1/4 MS or basal MS medium. When plantlets were cultured in Tosilee medium and fed with the basal MS medium, plant height, root length, shoot fresh and dry weights, root fresh and dry weights, and leaf area were promoted and greater than those in plantlets cultured in the agar medium.
