  • This study evaluates a cleaning method to maintain and minimize the change of blood soil for the selective removal of stains from textiles with historical significance and special meaning. Cotton and silk fabrics were soiled with blood, aged artificially and then washed by wet cleaning or dry cleaning (water, nonionic surfactant; Triton, natural surfactant; saponin, organic solvent; n-Decane). The washed fabrics were stored at room temperature for four years. The change of the blood soil was evaluated by SEM, weight, thickness, and color differences. Subsequently, the shape and the amount of blood adsorption on the fabric varied depending on fiber type and fabric structure characteristics; in addition, long term storage affected changes to blood soil. It was difficult to remove artificially aged blood soil from fabrics by wet or dry cleaning. However, the changes of the blood soil by these cleanings can be explained by the changes on SEM, weight, thickness and fabric color. The changes (especially color) showed over time. Wet cleaning showed that the changes of those factors were slightly lower than those by dry cleaning.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the dyeing method with dry leaves of indigo plant. Coloring matter was extracted from dry leaves of indigo plant with hot sodium hydroxide solution. The extract was reduced with sodium dithionite, and it was used for dyeing cotton fabrics under various conditions. UV-visible absorption spectra of extract, reduction rate of extracts by reducing agent, and the surface color of dyed cotton, lightfastness were examined. For the initial 20 minutes, the absorbance of indigo solution rapidly decreased. However, several hours later, the decreasing rate retarded. By repeating the dyeing process, the shade looked deeper and deeper. At $30-40^{\circ}C$, the value of K/S reached the highest point. The concentration of indigo solution in dye bath seemed to playa critical role for the reaction of the reducing agent. It was observed that the surface color of cotton fabrics was getting bluish and its degree of value and chroma seemed slightly decreased as the K/S value was increasing. The lightfastness was clearly enhanced by increasing the K/S value.

  • Cotton fabrics were treated with gelatin to enhance dyeability and color strength when using Caesalpinia sappan dye. Gelatin was used as the protein and a pad-dry- cure method was used for the treatment process (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14g/l concentration). Pretreated fabrics were mordanted with 10% alum. Fabrics were then dyed with freeze-dried sappan wood water extract powder form. Dyed samples were assessed in regards to dyeing behavior and color fastness. Comparing untreated and gelatin treated samples from the SEM images indicated that the Gelatin treatment (10g/l) resulted in an enhanced surface roughness that was relative to that of untreated cotton. Padding cotton with gelatin at 6g/l concentration afforded dyed fabrics with a 2 times increase in the K/S value over that of untreated fabrics. All dyed samples were red color with a significant enhancement in the sample color strength (K/S) being observed for pretreated samples. pH values favor dye absorption with pH 7 yielding the highest color strength. Dyeing at an elevated temperature resulted in a lower color strength and reddish-dull color. Longer dyeing times created greater color strengths for untreated and gelatin treated cotton. Increased dye concentrations resulted in higher K/S values for both gelatin treated and untreated cotton. As for color fastness, gelatin treated and untreated cotton fabrics dyed with sappan wood extract showed a relatively low rating in washing fastness (color change 1 rating), light fastness (1 rating), and rubbing fastness (wet:1-2, dry:3-4 rating).

  • Need color separation process to appear number of minimum printing plate waterway maximum printing color at printing process. This time, printing plate is separated three primary colors of C(cyan), M(magenta), Y(yellow). Appear all colors of printing such three primary colors. But, three primary color ink appears 100% dark gray that is not clean as chroma is neared color to 0 because is not pure. As well as, the ink area rate that is whole by over print amount increase of three primary is expanded. As a result, influence in secondary printablity set-off growth by inaccurate color reproduction and ink dry badness, trapping efficiency decline etc.. Apply ink saving method that is replaced as K ink in consisted dark color constituent because three primary colors are over print each other adding one more K(black) plate by method to improve these problem. Therefore, can reduce extension of the total ink area rate, and help in correct color appearance control. As well as, eco-friendly printing process attains improving printablity at the same time curtailment of printing expense by reducing requirement of total ink. Usually, there are UCR(under color removal) and GCR(gray component replacement) to ink saving application method. But, the practical use limit is insufficient state to tribe of technological investigation or field application about these method in domestic printing field. Therefore, in this research, ink saving been bringing by one method of eco-friendly printing confirmed that is applicable in usual domestic printing environment. Also, searched result getting in printablity by ink saving application.

  • With increased use of halftone dot overprints for offset color printing, it is important to study the density and ink trap of the overprints. In this research the equation to predict the density and the method to evaluate ideally the fractional ink trap are preposed. And also the halftone dot overprinting experiments of Magenta over Cyan or Cyan over Magenta under wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry overprinting using 2-color offset press show the above proposals are reasonable, and show the effect of overprinting sequence on the density and ink trap.

  • The purposes of this study was to develop the best one among the methods using dry heat, gamma irradiation and alcohol gas, to sterilize Scutellariae Radix selected based on high frequency of circulation between merchants and high susceptibility to microbial contamination, through comparing these methods in terms of the followings; ⅰ) the efficacy of sterilization in comparison with cost, and ⅱ)the alteration of chemical components of these herbal medicines. The results of this study will be taken advantage of establishment of the maximum limit of microorganism contaminated in herbal medicines. From the results of this study we conclude the followings: ⅰ) The sterilizing method using dry heat may be inappropriate, because it seriously changed their color and morphology which is an essential criterion to estimate a measure of quality between merchants and consumers, although it effectively got rid of contaminated microorganism and did not alter major components, baicalin; ⅱ) The sterilizing method using gamma irradiation may be appropriate, because it showed a strong sterilizing effect, and no alteration of chemical components, color and morphology; ⅲ)The sterilizing method using alcohol gas may also be appropriate, because it had a similar effects as in the case of gamma irradiation. Collectively, we suggest that appropriate sterilizing methods to guarantee the microbial quality of this herbal medicine may be those using gamma irradiation and alcohol gas.

  • This paper studies the conservation treatment of Lady Shim's costume, which was excavated in Jecheon Province in 2012. There were the significant problems, which were encountered in the treatment of the costume ; First the Jeogoris were transformed during the excavation, Second fibers were seriously deteriorated, Third most of the fabrics such as Chusa were readily deformed. To overcome these problems and to secure stability in the conservation treatment, we decided to alternate between two different washing methods ; dry cleaning by n-hexane and wet cleaning by water. The costume shape was recovered by steaming and by swelling with Hanji(Korean traditional paper). The combined cleaning method proved to be relatively efficient and stable. In addition, the shape of Chusa was well preserved by dry cleaning.(using n-hexane also solved the problem of bad smell after washing with organic solvents.) The effects of the conservation treatment on the excavated costumes could be seen in the change of Lab color difference. Washing made the distribution of Lab color difference narrower, which may suggest that the impurities on the fiber was removed by washing. In addition, the value of L was greater than a-value and b-value after the treatment. This result indicates that the change of value represents the change of color difference by cleaning.

  • Objective: This study aimed to elucidate the effects of cooking conditions on the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of dry- and wet-aged beef strip loins. Methods: Dry- and wet-aged beef aged for 28 days were cooked using different cooking methods (grilling or oven roasting)×cooking temperatures (150℃ or 230℃), and their pH, 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), volatile compounds, and color were measured. Results: Cooking conditions did not affect pH; however, grilling resulted in lower TBARS but higher cooking doneness at the dry-aged beef surface compared to oven roasting (p<0.05). In descriptive sensory analysis, the roasted flavor of dry-aged beef was significantly stronger when grill-cooked compared to oven roasting. Dry-aged beef grill-cooked at 150℃ presented a higher intensity of cheesy flavor, and that grilled at 230℃ showed a greater intensity of roasted flavor compared to wet-aged beef at the same condition, respectively. Conclusion: Grilling may be effective for enhancing the unique flavor in dry-aged beef.

  • One-step reduction/dyeing method was applied for ramie dyeing with natural indigo powder. The effect of reduction/dyeing conditions including the pH of bath, dye temperature and time, and concentration of indigo powder and reduction agent on dye uptake and color properties were investigated. Regardless of addition of alkali, the dyed fabrics appeared in the PB Munsell color range(${\lambda}_{max}$: 660 nm) and the dye uptake was much higher with no addition of sodium hydroxide. Dyeing was carried out through the use of only sodium hydrosulfite in the bath. The maximum dye uptake was obtained at 60 for 30min. Saturated dye uptake was obtained at 2 g/L of sodium hydrosulfite concentration up to 2 g/ L of indigo powder. Whereas, at higher indigo powder concentration (4 g/L), more than 3 g/L of reducing agent concentration was required for obtaining the saturated dye uptake. Color reproducibility was reliable with color difference in the range of 0.03~0.16. Regardless of color strength, fastness to rubbing was acceptable with a 3/4~4/5. Fastness to washing, dry cleaning, and light of samples with low color strength were poor. Whereas, fastness to washing, dry cleaning, and light of samples with high color strength were very good.

  • The purse of this study was to invesigate the dyeing fastness on extract of bufferbur leaf princeps. The experimental items were divided into the mordant treatment, component of fabric and kind of mordants. The experimental study was done by laundering, abrasion (dry/wet), perspiration (acid/alkali), light, iron fastness test and color difference by C.C.M system. The summerized finding resulted from experiments and investigation are suggested as follows : In the C.C.M test on mordanting method and kind of fabric, color difference of silk was three times higher than cotton. The silk fabric was the highest in simultaneous mordant treatment but cotton fabric was the highest in none mordant. In color difference analysis on 6 mordants, that of silk and cotton was significantly improved when mordants was treatmented. Especially color difference of Fe and Cu mordanting treatment was higher than Cr, Sn, Al and none. In dyeing fastness on mordants laundering, perspiration, abrasion and iron fastness showed 4-5 grade but light-fastness showed 1-3 grade.
