The present study is performed to set up the framework of cooling tower performance predictions. The performance of mechanical forced draft cooling tower is directly related to the state of a nuclear power plant system, such as the condenser and evaporator. The main parameters related to the state of systems are as follows : wet bulb temperature, dry bulb temperature and absolute humidity. The performance evaluation of cooling tower must be considered at the power plant design. In this study, the toolkit developed by the American Cooling Tower Industry association (CTI) has been used for the framework construction. In order to validate the framework, it is being applied to the cooling tower constructed for the U.S. Nuclear Power Plant. The test results have shown good agreements with the cold water temperature on the cooling tower performance curves provided by manufacturers.

This study aims to measure the thermal comfort effects of urban street trees. As the usual dry bulb air temperature does not indicate properly how the average pedestrian feels the heat of a typical summer day under the strong sunshine, we adopted the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature(WBGT). WBGT involves black globe temperature to measure the direct radiation of sun beams on our bodies, for example our heads. We measured temperatures on very sunny and hot summer days, August 3, 4, and 7, 2012, on the urban streets of Seoul, Korea. Wet bulb, globe, and dry bulb temperatures were measured under direct sunlight from 1 O'clock to 5 O'clock pm. Globe and dry bulb temperatures were measured under street tree shades nearby during the same hours. Then the WBGTs were calculated with the formulae, one for sunny outdoor spaces, and the other for shaded outdoor spaces or indoor. The results are compared with the Korean Standards Association(KS A ISO 7243). The major findings were: 1) On very sunny and hot summer days in Seoul, street tree shades lower the WBGT about 1 to 4 degrees, 2) during the hours of 3 and 4 O'clock in the afternoon, the WBGT under the tree shades are about 3 to 4 degrees lower compared to those under sunshines(approx. 29 to 32 degrees respectively), 3) This difference makes a major thermal comfort for urban pedestrians because senior citizens or weak persons are recommended to move indoor, and even healthy people are recommended stop outdoor sports and take rests in the shades when WBGT is about 32. On the other hand, if the WBGT is around 29, or 3 degrees lower, slower walking, light works or sports are allowable, 4) On site questionnaire survey confirms the thermal comforts under the tree shades, and we even could not get survey subjects on the sunny parts of the sidewalks, 5) We strongly recommend change of guidelines for urban street trees from "one row of street trees on 6m~8m intervals" to "street trees to make continuous shades".

In general, the air-side j and f factors of evaporators or condensers are obtained through single-design tests performed under air-dry and wet-bulb temperatures. Considering that the indoor or outdoor air temperatures vary significantly during the operation of an air conditioner, it is necessary to confirm that the experimentally-obtained j and f factors are widely applicable under variable air conditions. In this study, a series of tests were conducted on a two-row slit-finned heat exchanger to confirm the applicability. The results showed that, for the dry-surface condition, the changes of the tube-side water temperature, water-flow rate, and air temperature had virtually no effect on the air-side j and f factors. For the wet condition, however, the f factor was significantly affected by these changes; contrarily, the j factor is relatively independent regarding this change. The formulation of the possible reasoning is in consideration of the condensation behavior underneath the tube. The wet-surface j and f factors are larger than those of the dry surface, with a larger amount for the f factor.

To estimate the cooling load for the following day, outdoor temperature and humidity are needed in hourly base. But the meteorological administration forecasts only maximum and minimum temperature. New methodology is proposed for predicting hourly outdoor temperature and humidity by using the forecasted maximum and minimum temperature. The correlations for normalized outdoor temperature and specific humidity has been derived from the weather data for five years at Seoul, Daejeon and Pusan. The correlations for normalized temperature are independent of date, while the correlations for specific humidity are linearly dependent on date. The predicted results show fairly good agreement with the measured data. The prediction program is also developed for hourly outdoor dry bulb temperature, specific humidity, dew point, relative humidity, enthalpy and specific volume.
Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems is being used increasingly in energy assessments and design.. Building designers often now predict the performance of buildings simulation programmes that require hourly weather data. However, not all weather stations provide hourly data. Climate prediction models such as HadCM3 also provide the daily average dry bulb temperature as well as the maximum and minimum. Hourly temperature values are available for building thermal simulations that accounts for future changes to climate. In order to make full use of these predicted future weather data in building simulation programmes, algorithms for downscaling daily values to hourly values are required. This paper describes a more accurate method for generating hourly temperature values in the South Korea that uses all three temperature parameters from climate model. All methods were evaluated for accuracy and stability in terms of coefficient of determination and cumulative error. They were compared with hourly data collected in Seoul and Ulsan, South Korea.
Amid the crisis of global climate change, interest in low carbon and energy-saving building has been increasingly growing. Korea is likely to be designated as one of the countries subject to CO2 reduction under the 'Post-2012 Climate System' The efforts to minimize the building energy has been made and in line with the increasing need of low carbon and eco-friendly building, a demand for building evaluation programs has been on the rise. However, the metro logical data which is necessary for such program has not been effectively provided and moreover, the source, calculation method and period remain uncertain. This study was intended to evaluate the regional typical metro logical data (ISO TRY) provided by Korean Solar Energy Society and compile the month of test reference years (TRY), and analyze the regional weather using dry-bulb temperature, wet-bulb temperature and solar irradiance which are regarded the representative metro logical data.

A natural ventilating type store was designed for the economic and effective storage of citrus fruits in Jejudo. The material used for the wall is scoria, widely distributed in Jejudo and known for high strength and insulation. Design condition was chosen for the period till March of a year and the dry bulb temperature was taken from TAC $5\%$ base. The temperature of the store can be maintained below the limiting temperature of $8^{\circ}C$ for the time length of $7\frac{1}{2}$ hours under the condition of the atmospheric temp, $15.3^{\circ}C$ and the solar insolation. The limiting temperature can he recovered to the initial temperature $(7^{\circ}C)$ by the natural ventilation for 8 hours in the night.

This study describes to analyze the cooling load characteristics for a room air conditioner as a function of supply ventilation air when an air conditioner is running An experimental apparatus consists of a test room, a room air conditioner, a humidifier, an electrical heater a supply fan and a controller The reaching time to the inside setting temperature of the room air conditioner with is evaluated theoretically and experimentally in a conditioned space cooling loads such as supply ventilation air, lighting, occupancy and infiltration. In the conditions of cooling loads for the supply ventilation air of 9.5 L/s(0.98 ACH). lights. one Person, and infiltration, the reaching time to the inside setting temperature ($27\;^{\circ}C$ dry-bulb) increases up to $35\%$ more than for no supply ventilation air condition. Theoretical modelling of the reaching time shows good agreement with experimental results.
Regenerative evaporative cooling is known as an environment-friendly and energy efficient cooling method. A regenerative evaporative cooler (REC) consisting of dry and wet channels is able to cool down the air stream below the inlet wet-bulb temperature. In the regenerative evaporative cooler, the cooling effect is achieved by redirecting a portion of the air flown out of the dry channel into the wet channel and spraying water onto the redirected air. In this study, a horizontal regenerative cooler is considered. In the horizontal regenerative cooler, the flow direction of evaporating water has a right angle to the flow direction of supply air. This difference was investigated with visualization technique and simplified 2-module performance test was done in a thermo-environment chamber. Optimum design configuration is changed due to the wet channel which are easily fully covered with evaporating water and block the air flow inside the channel. Applying the optimized fin configuration design with the highly wetting surface treatment, a regenerative evaporative cooler was fabricated and tested to Identify the cooling performance improvement and operation characteristics. From the experimental results at the intake condition of $32^{\circ}C$ and 50% RH, the supply temperature was measured to be around $23.4^{\circ}C$. The cooling effectiveness based on the inlet dewpoint temperature was evaluated 73% which is almost close to the design expectation.
This study was executed to test the possibility of replacement for domestic Japanese larch(Larix leptolepis) for hardwoods and to acquire the information about the effects of drying temperature on internal temperature, moisture content and drying defects. In high-temperature drying, internal temperature increased rapidly to boiling point, immediately after that point the internal temperature rising rate was reduced. In the case of drying at temperature of $125^{\circ}C$, internal temperature could reach at boiling point in a very short time. Moisture content in high-temperature drying showed constant drying rate period and first period of falling rate drying together in 4 hours since experiment begun. There was no strong correlation between initial moisture content and final moisture content. Average drying rate at $115^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$ and $125^{\circ}C$ was 1.42%/hr, 1.88%/hr and 2.02%/hr, respectively; the case of drying temperature of $125^{\circ}C$ showed most rapid drying rate. Drying rate of $125^{\circ}C$ was so rapid that it showed more severe shrinkage, bow, collapse, end check, and internal check development than in other drying conditions. The result of this study showed the strong possibility of high-temperature drying for Japanese larch, and to dry Japanese larch optimally, dry bulb temperature should not exceed $120^{\circ}C$.
