This study was performed to identify the health behaviors and medication compliances of hypertensive patients in a rural area, from May 1 to July 31. 2001. The subjects were 100 hypertensive patients who were registered at the Health Center in Goeje City. The data was collected by face-to-face interviews with a 25-item questionnaire on health behaviors, and analyzed by the Chi-square test on each variable. The results were as follows: Approximately 76% of the subjects were currently taking drug medication. In the comparison of health behavior rates between male and female, there were statistically significant differences in smoking (p< .000), alcohol(p< .003), low salt diet(p< .014), and the health behavior rates of female were higher than those of male. In the comparison of socioeconomic factors by medication compliance, there was statistically significant difference in sex(p< .001), and the medication compliance rate of female was higher than that of male. In the comparison of subjects' perception by medication compliance, there were statistically significant differences in seriousness of hypertension (p< .001) and medication period for hypertension care (p< .004), The medication compliance rate of the group of subjects who took the threat on their hypertension seriously was higher than that of the group who didn't, and the medication compliance rate of the group who knew that they should take medication for the rest of their life was higher than that of the group who didn't. These results suggest that community health education programs and distribution of information must be emphasized in order to increase medication and to encourage behavior changes for promoting health.
Development of antiviral resistance to lamivudine is the most important factor for the treatment failure. It is necessary to establish proper guidelines to overcome drug resistance for children with chronic hepatitis B. Primary treatment with lamivudine should be considered if patients are in immune-clearance phase and have persistently elevated ALT levels more than twice the upper limit of normal value. Before initiating the therapy, careful consideration of the patient's status is required to exclude abnormal liver function tests due to other causes. The treatment option should be carefully decided to suppress the viral replication effectively. To obtain good compliance, clinicians should educate patients and their parents. Appropriate monitoring for virologic breakthrough and genotypic resistance is important in deciding to change the treatment plan. Sequential monotherapy should be avoided and a combination of drugs in other categories is recommended. New antiviral agents, such as entecavir and tenofovir, which have high potency and high genetic barrier, are soon expected to be available for use with children.
Motilitone$^{(R)}$ (DA-9701) is a new herbal drug that was launched for the treatment of functional dyspepsia in December 2011 in Korea. The heterogeneous symptom pattern and multiple causes of functional dyspepsia have resulted in multiple drug target strategies for its treatment. DA-9701, a compound consisting of a combination of Corydalis Tuber and Pharbitidis Semen, has being developed for treatment of functional dyspepsia. It has multiple mechanisms of action such as fundus relaxation, visceral analgesia, and prokinetic effects. Furthermore, it was found to significantly enhance meal-induced gastric accommodation and increase gastric compliance in dogs. DA-9701 also showed an analgesic effect in rats with colorectal distension induced visceral hypersensitivity and an antinociceptive effect in beagle dogs with gastric distension-induced nociception. The pharmacological effects of DA-9701 also include conventional effects, such as enhanced gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit. The safety profile of DA-9701 is also preferable to that of other treatments.

Topical agents including of steroids are easily exposed to Korean patients in community setting. Those topical agents must be use cautiously because can cause adverse drug reaction unlike other oral medication. We evaluate the using pattern topical agents of Korean in community setting. We performed a questionnaire survey in three different pharmacies (general community pharmacy, dermatology clinic oriented pharmacy, general hospital oriented pharmacy) and in three university town. The survey asked necessity of topical agents, the number of applications per day, application period, site, and exist of steroids ingredient, etc. Total 330 people was participated in the survey from May 1st to July 31st, 2014. We analysed the survey by the frequency of each question and cross-analysis of the compliance between general public and pharmacy groups. In results, Korean people used topical agents for sudden skin diseases (66.9%), was gotten by dermatologist's prescription (89.1%), and did not know their diagnosis (39.2%). The people applied topical agents on face (22.3%), less one half FTU (finger tip unit) per application (61.9%), less than one week (62.9%). Though they was received drug education from pharmacist (52.2%), did not heard about adverse effects (78.4%). And compliance of applied times in pharmacy group was higher than in-non-pharmacy group (56% vs 38%, p=0.002). The highest compliance between 3 pharmacy subgroup was general community pharmacy (76.3% vs 61.6%, 61.2%, p=0.039). Compliance of applied duration was no difference between groups. Majority of respondents did not know diversity of ingredients, potency, application area of topical steroids, and replied to feel some vague reluctance and to think so dangerous about topical steroids. In conclusion, Korean people in community use topical agents well but still some exposed to risk from topical agents.
The last decade of this centry is now the accepted birth date of that sub-discipline of pharmacy that is now called 'biopharmceutics'. Wagner defines biopharmaceutics 'as the study of the influence of fomulation on the therapeutic activity of a drug product.' More specifically, he states that biopharmaceutics encompasses the study of the relationship between the nature and intensity of the biological effects observed in animals or man and the following factors: 1. The nature of the form of the drug (ester, salt, complex, etc). 2. The physical state, particle size, and surface area. 3. Presence or absence of adjuvants with the drug. 4. The type of dosage form in which the drug is administered. 5. The pharmaceutical process (es) used to make the dosage form. The philosophy inherent in this definition has revolutionized our thinking with respect to product development, quality control, and to the practice of pharmacy itself. Althoughthe the emphasis herein will be on quality control, the interrelationship between this and the other areas of pharmacy will be evident. The principles of quality control dictate that a wide variety of techniques be used to evaluate the quality of a dosage form. Since quality must be built into a dosage form, the pharmaceutical scientist begins the process at the research stage, continues it during the production stage, and ends it by applying the tests and procedures established by parmacopeial commissions. These stages are usually separate and distinct and, because of this, product quality has become synonymous with compliance with pharmacopeial specifications.
Since tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health concern and the incidence of multi-drug resistant (MDR)-TB is increasing globally, new modalities for the detection of TB and drug resistant TB are needed to improve TB control. The Xpert MTB/RIF test can be a valuable new tool for early detection of TB and rifampicin resistance, with a high sensitivity and specificity. Late-generation fluoroquinolones, levofloxacin, and moxifloxacin, which are the principal drugs for the treatment of MDR-TB, show equally high efficacy and safety. Systemic steroids may reduce the overall TB mortality attributable to all forms of TB across all organ systems, although inhaled corticosteroids can increase the risk of TB development. Although fixed dose combinations were expected to reduce the risk of drug resistance and increase drug compliance, a recent meta-analysis found that they might actually increase the risk of relapse and treatment failure. Regarding treatment duration, patients with cavitation and culture positivity at 2 months of TB treatment may require more than 6 months of standard treatment. New anti-TB drugs, such as linezolid, bedaquiline, and delamanid, could improve the outcomes in drug-resistant TB. Nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease has typical clinical and immunological phenotypes. Mycobacterial genotyping may predict disease progression, and whole genome sequencing may reveal the transmission of Mycobacterium abscessus. In refractory Mycobacterium avium complex lung disease, a moxifloxacin-containing regimen was expected to improve the treatment outcome.
Transdermal drug delivery offers various advantages over conventional drug delivery systems, such as avoidance gastrointestinal degradation and hepatic first-pass effect. encourages patient compliance. and possible sustained release of drugs. However, transdermal transport of drugs is low permeability of the stratum corneum, the superficial layer of the skin. Many physicochemical and biological factors influencing transdermal transport is described together with the corresponding experimental and clinical results. Phonophoresis is medical treatment with drugs introduced into the skin by ultrasound energy. Enhanced drug penetration is through to result from the biophysical alterations of skin structure by ultrasound waves. The frequency used for phonophoresis is usually from 20 kHz to 15MHz. Phonophoresis can be categorized in to three ranges: low-frequency range(below 1 MHz). therapeutic frequency range(1 to 3MHz), and high-frequency range(above 3 MHz). The depth of penetration of ultrasound into skin is inversely proportional to the frequency. Cavitation may cause mechanical stress. temperature elevation, or enhanced chemical reactivity causing drug transport. One theory is that ultrasound affects the permeation of the stratum corneum lipid structure as the limiting step in permeating through the skin. The range of indications for phonophoresis is wide. Aspecific classification of the range of indications is obtained by classification of pathological conditions. The continuous research is needed for many interesting issucs of phonophoretic transdermal delivory in new future.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of long term osteoporosis management education consist of exercise, drug therapy, and nutrition on bone mineral density (BMD) and medication compliance among postmenopausal women who have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Methods: The research design consisted of a pre-and post-test quasi-experimental design through a nonequivalent control group. The participants in this study were 60 individuals with osteoporosis, and who were classified according to two groups; the control group (n=30) who were given general clinical guidelines, and the experimental group (n=30) who received management education once for 60 minutes every three months using a standardized educational sheet. After one year, BMD was assessed using band dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and medication possession ratio (MPR) for medication compliance. Analysis of collected data was performed using descriptive statistics t-test, chi-test, and paired t-test. Results: No significant difference in BMD (t=-1.02, p=.311) and MPR (t=-0.77, p=.440) was observed between the two groups. However, a significant increase in femur neck BMD was observed in the experimental group compared with the control group (t=-2.18, p=.033). Conclusion: Conduct of further study will be needed for examination of the effect of long-term osteoporosis management education on BMD Level and Medication Compliance in Postmenopausal Women.
Patient counseling is emerging as one of the most important roles of community pharmacists because the information on the standard labeling for the prescription drug is not sufficient to ensure the correct use of the drug. However, excessive workload of the community pharmacists in Korea discourages the provision of the effective patient counseling. The use of auxiliary label may be an efficient tool to help patients correctly use the prescription drug in this situation. As a preliminary study to encourage the use of auxiliary label, we have performed a survey analysis of familiarity and willingness of community pharmacists to use the auxiliary label. About three quarters of the participating community pharmacists have heard of the auxiliary label, however, there was not a single pharmacist who uses the label. Furthermore, only one fifth of the participating pharmacists were willing to use the label if they have to purchase. Therefore, it is recommended that governmental and non-profit organizations such as Korean Pharmaceutical Association educate community pharmacists regarding usefulness of the auxiliary label with focus on enhancing patient compliance and constrainment of healthcare expense.

Objective: This study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of individual patient behavior regarding the health and medical care level on their therapeutic compliance for people diagnosed with high blood pressure by a physician, in order to evaluate the impact of treatment compliance. In this study, the therapeutic compliance was defined as the hypertension drug cure rate. The current blood pressure controls were persons about 30 years of age diagnosed with high blood pressure by their doctor one month fraction of the people who take more than 20 days (30 days). Methods: The data was analyzed by using the X2-test for different comparisons of the therapeutic compliance in the individual characteristics and using a two-stage multilevel logistic regression to identify the community variance of the related index of high blood pressure therapeutic compliance using the data from 229 adults over the age of 19 in a community health survey conducted in 2010. The Spss 18.0 statistical program was used with HLM 7 (hierarchical linear model) Results: It was found that the rate of therapeutic compliance was affected by the individual health behavior and health and medical care levels. Conclusion: In this study, although the odds ratio of the variable region of the high level of health care, I was able Unlike previous studies and focuses on the personal level of variation found variations in the local health care level was a significant. More studies on multilevel analysis are needed in the future considering regional level data.
