  • The spray characteristics and drop size measurements have been experimentally studied in liquid jets injected into subsonic crossflow. With water as fuel injection velocity, injection angle and atomize. internal flows were varied to provide of jet operation conditions. The injector internal flow was classified as three modes such as a non-cavitation flow, cavitation, and hydraulic flip flows. Pulsed Shadowgraph Photography measurement was used to determine the spatial distribution of the spray droplet diameter in a subsonic crossflow of air. And this study also obtains the SMD (Sauter Mean Diameters) distribution by using Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence technique. The objectives of this research are get a droplet distributions and drop size measurements of each condition and compare with the other flow effects. As the result, This research has been showned that droplet size were spatially dependent on air-stream velocity, fuel injection velocity, injection angle effects, and normalized distance from the injector exit length(x/d, y/d). There are also different droplet size characteristics between cavitation, hydraulic flip and the non-cavitation flows.

  • This study is focussed on the investigation of spray characteristics from the high pressure gasoline injector for the application of gasoline direct injection engine. For the analysis of spray structure of high pressure gasoline injector; the laser scattering method with a Nd-Yag laser and the Phase Doppler particle analyzer system were applied to observe the spray development and the measurement of the droplet size and velocity of the spray, respectively. Also spatial velocity distribution of the spray droplet was measured by use of the particle image velocity system. Experimental results show that high pressure gasoline injector shapes the hollow-cone spray, and produce the upward ring shaped vortex on the spray surface region. This upward ring shaped vortex promotes the secondary atomization of fuel droplets and contributes to a uniform distribution of fuel droplets. Most of fuel droplets are distributed under 31$\mu m$ of the mean droplet size (SMD) and the frequency distribution of the droplet size under 25$\mu m$ is over 95% at 7 MPa of injection pressure. According to the experimental results of PIV system, the flow patterns of the droplets velocity distribution in spray region are in good agreement with the spray macroscopic behaviors obtained from the visualization investigation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the significant characteristics in atomization process of industrial etching spray fur the design or Precise pressure-swirl nozzles. The experiment was carried out with different viscosities and densities of the liquid. The macro characteristics of liquid spray, such as the spray angle and breakup process were captured by PMAS and the micro characteristics of liquid spray. such as droplet size and velocity measurements were obtained by PDA. The droplet axial and radial velocity and SMD were measured along axial and radial direction. The RMS of two velocities was measured along radial direction. It was found that the fluid with higher kinematic viscosity resulted in the larger SMD and the lower mean droplet velocity. And we could divide breakup processes into three regions that is atomization, non-dilution and dilution one in spray of pressure-swirl nozzle. The radial as well as axial velocity of droplet played an important role in the atomization process of higher kinematic viscosity fluid.

  • In this study, the mechanisms of binary droplet collision were studied with diesel, ethanol and purified water. The droplet collisions of liquid droplet have been investigated for the same droplet diameter. In order to obtain the digital images of the droplet collision behavior, the experimental equipment was composed of the droplet generating system and the droplet visualization system. The droplets were produced by the vibrating orifice monodisperse generator. The visualization system consisted of a long distance microscope, a light source, and a high speed camera. The outcomes of binary droplet collision can be divided into four regimes, bouncing, coalescence, reflexive separation and stretching separation. The impact angle and the relative velocity of binary droplet are main parameters of collision phenomena, so the transition mechanism of droplet collision can be divided by the impact parameter.

  • In this paper, a hybrid design tool combining one-dimensional(1D) lumped model and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD) approach has been developed in order to evaluate the performance of inkjet print head and droplet control process are studied to reduce the deviations between nozzles which affect the size of the printed line for the industrial application of direct writing on printed circuit boards(PCB). 1D lumped model analysis shows that it is useful tool for evaluating performance of an inkjet head by varying the design parameters. The differences in ejected volume and droplet velocity between analytical and experimental result are within 12%. Time sequence of droplet generation is verified by the comparison between 3D analysis result and photographic images acquired by stroboscopic technique. In addition, by applying DPN process, velocity and volume uniformity between nozzles is dramatically improved that the tolerance achieved by the piezoelectric inkjet printhead across the 64 nozzles is 5 to 8%. A printed line pattern is successfully obtained using the fabricated inkjet print head and droplet calibration system.

  • Using an inkjet printing process, we have investigated a droplet formation of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) near the orifice of a piezoelectric inkjet head. With an attempt to form the smallest droplet without any satellites, we have applied various waveforms such as the unipolar, bipolar, and M-shaped waveforms. It is found that the droplet velocity and volume vary depending sensitively on the waveform width and voltage. Of those, the M-shaped waveform is shown to provide the smallest droplet volume, followed by the bipolar and then unipolar waveforms. The droplet printed on a PET film roll by the M-shaped waveform has the diameter as small as 46.1 ㎛. It is likely that the second short unipolar in the M-shape waveform increases the droplet velocity gradient, rendering the droplet smaller.

  • When an interior fire occurs in an apartment building, pollution of the entrance area by fire smoke before an air fan operates makes the evacuation of people very difficult aswhen the fire doors are opened. Numerical simulations using Fire Dynamics Simulator were conducted to determine the impact of a sprinkler on the fire flow velocity. The fire flow velocity was compared depending on the presence of sprinklers and the sprayed droplet size. The configuration and actual dimensions of an apartment building were used in the numerical simulations. The simulation results showed that fire flow velocity becomes smaller when a sprinkler is installed. In addition, the smaller droplet size results in a smaller fire flow velocity because smaller droplets can be evaporated more easily.

  • The motion of a rising liquid droplet is different that of a bubble motion. Treatment of liquid drops is more complex because internal motion must be considered. A 3D unstructured CFD code has been developed to solve incompressible N-S equation for the droplet simulation. This front-tracking consideration which the interface is tracked explicitly is very available to apply for not only exact interface topology but also the high schmidt number issue, such as $CO_2$ dissolution. This paper is forced on the zig-zag motion of the liquid droplet. The simulation shows that if the rising droplet is located at the corner of the zig-zag path, the velocity is low and shape of the droplet is more spherical shape, results in the less drag coefficient. Twin horse shoe vortexes behind the rising droplet are presented and the topology of the droplet is compared with an experimental result during one period of the path.

  • In order to understand and explain the spary combustion, it was necessary to understand the disintegration mechanisms of liquid jet. To understand the disintegration mechanisms of liquid jet, the disintegration phenomena and uniform droplet production regions of testing liquid jet was investigated by means of longitudinally vibration capillary nozzle, which was injected the testing liquids. The testing liquids were light oil and light oil and light oil blended with 25wt% fish oil (File fish oil, Sardine fish oil, Alaska pollac oil) The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The uniform droplet phenomena have been changed according to the frequency of capillary tube, the jet velocity and physical properties of testing oils. 2. Within the region of uniform droplet, Reynold number was increased as Weber number increases. 3. The lower limit of wave length in which uniform droplet was produced 0.8d which was lower than Rayleigh wave length 4. The light oil blended with file fish oil which has lower viscosity and surface tension had the widest uniform droplet production region on the frequency and velocity among testing oils. But light oil blended with sardine fish oil were similar with light oil in the uniform production region.
