To identify the reclamation history formed by top dredged soil reclamation layer over the original ground, various field tests and laboratory tests were conducted. Especially when the original ground was not completely consolidated, CPTu test was carried out to calculate rational settlement due to the banking load. CPTu test results showed that the degree of consolidation of weak clay ground by dredged reclamation was on average 80%. As the research area was not completely consolidated by dredged reclamation in the past, the consolidation settlement should account for the residual settlement (20%) in the case of additional banking load. When the degree of consolidation of the original ground was not taken into account, the residual consolidation was expected in excessive settlement (up to 20%) and in such case PBD (Plastic Board Drain) was not effective in obtaining desired degree of consolidation.
To solve the problem of saturated dredged soil dumping area, it is possible to extend the life span of dredged soil dumping area by accelerating consolidation of dredged soil and making alluvial soil layer consolidated additionally by using dewatering method and PDF method without construction of new dumping area which entails great expense. Self-weight consolidation tests on samples from Busan and Incheon with the column of 400 mm in diameter were conducted to estimate those methods applicability to domestic dredged soil. As a result of tests, it was proved that dewatering method and PDF method were highly effective in increasing reclamation capacity of dredged soil by reduction of self-weight consolidation completion time and increase of self-weight consolidation settlement.

Recently, by the lack of fill material, the dredg and fill(hydraulic fill) method is commonly used in reclamation projects. Hydraulic fill method dredges the soil and send it with water through the transportation pipe to the site. The intial state of the hydraulic fill material is accordingly the mixture of water and soil skeleton which settles with time forming a new soil layer. The properties of new soil layer is governed the size of the soil skeleton, the flow velocity of mixing water, salt concentration, the distance from the discharge pipe outlet, and other dredging conditions when settling process occur. In this study, the effects of gradation of derdged soil on the deposition properties (with emphasis on the optimum spacing of the discharge pipes) was investigated by field test. It was found that the soft fine graind soil was forme at 350m from the discharge pipe outlet when the dredged material was classified as CL, while the soft fine grained soil was not formed even at the distance farther than 400m from the diacharge pipe outlet when the dredged material was classified as SM.

There is a case to use dredged-sea sand as a filling material because of difficulty of obtaining required filling material for tideland reclamation project from the land. At this time, side slope erosion is occurred because the precipitation falling to the top of bank acts as infiltration water when it pass through inside of the semi-permeable filling section. This study has confirmed the declining effect of permeability by conducting permeability test to the condition of mixing of bentonite to the dredged sea-sand. And also this study has confirmed that the above processed-soil could be used as a water-proof layer to protect infiltration of water through the infiltration flow analysis.

This study aims to suggest adequate soil management through the analysis of physicochemical properties of soil in the planting grounds of Incheon International Airport, which was constructed on a massive land reclamation site. Study areas were 5 sites at the international business complex, the passenger terminal, the airport support complex, the free trade zone, and the access road. Soil profile analysis showed that 9 plots out of the 27 plots were hardpan and heterospere within 80cm from the soil surface. The earth laid on the ground was categorized as gravel based soil(4 plots), dredged soil from the sea bottom and mixed reclamation materials(2 plots), clay with poor permeability(3 plots) and waste construction material(1 plot). Average soil hardness was $11.5kg/cm^2$ and soil textures were sandy soil, sandy loam and loamy sand. Average soil pH was 6.7 and average organic matter content was 0.7%. Electrical conductivity was 0.0dS/m and exchangeable cation concentrations were $Ca^{2+}$ 3.4cmol/kg, $Mg^{2+}$ 1.5cmol/kg, $K^+$ 0.3cmol/kg and $Na^+$ 1.0cmol/kg. Average cation exchange capacity was 11.0cmol/kg. Although average figures in Solum mostly meet the landscape design criteria, properties of each soil layer showed various values sometimes over the limit. Base saturations were $Ca^{2+}$ 29.9%, $Mg^{2+}$ 13.3% and $K^+$ 3.7% for lower soil, $Ca^{2+}$ 33.3%, $Mg^{2+}$ 17.0% and $K^+$ 2.7% for mid-soil and $Ca^{2+}$ 32.6%, $Mg^{2+}$ 12.2% and $K^+$ 1.9% for upper soil. Exchangeable sodium percentages were 16.4% for lower soil, 7.5% for mid-soil and 4.7% upper soil. Sodium adsorption rates were 0.8 for lower soil, 0.3 for mid-soil and 0.2 for upper soil. Factors affecting to the vegetation growth were heterogeneity and poorness of solum, disturbance of dredged soils, high soil hardness including hardpan in the subsurface soil layer and shallow effective soil depth, high soil acidity, imbalance of base contents, low organic matter content and low available phosphate levels in the soil.
Most of the soil used for reclamation is marine clay generated from dredging construction. The soft ground made of dredged clay has high water content and high compressibility, so the bearing capacity of the ground is very weak and it is difficult to enter the ground improvement equipment. Therefore, surface hardening treatment method is used to enter equipment prior to full-scale civil engineering work, and stabilizer is mainly used for cement series. Cement-based stabilizers have the advantage of improving the ground in a short period of time and have excellent economic efficiency, but they are disadvantageous in that they cause environmental problems due to leaching of heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium. In this study, environmental effects evaluation of dredged clay mixed with normal portland cement and environmentally friendly stabilizer was evaluated, and uniaxial compressive strength test and indoor model test were conducted to confirm the bearing capacity characteristics of the solidified layer.
This research was conducted to determine the effect of interruption layer for capillary rise on the sand based growing media when growing Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) on soil reclamation and saline water irrigation. Growing media profile consists of three layers as top soil of 30 cm, 20 cm of the interruption layer for capillary rise and 10 cm of reclaimed paddy soil. Growing media profile was packed in 30 cm diameter column pots. The top soil was a mixture of sand dredged up from Lake Bhunam Tae Ahn, Korea and peat at the ratio of 95:5 by volume. Bottom part of column was covered with plastic net and the pots were soaked into 5 cm depth saline water reservoir with salinity $3-5\;dS\;m^{-1}$. Kentucky bluegrass was established by sod and irrigated using $2\;dS\;m^{-1}$ saline water ($5.7\;mm\;day^{-1}$) in 3 days interval. The results showed that the largest accumulation of salt in the spring with electrical conductivity in saturated extract (ECe) of $5.4\;dS\;m^{-1}$ and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) 34.0 in growing media without the interruption layer for capillary rise and ECe of $4.6\;dS\;m^{-1}$ and SAR 8.24 at growing media using gravel as the interruption layer for capillary rise material. The interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel and coarse sand reduced the accumulation of Na by 16% and 25%, ECe by 7% and 13% in the growing media. Visual quality of Kentucky bluegrass was higher in growing media with the interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel than no interruption layer by 8.3 compared to 7.9 in rates. The interruption layer for capillary rise of gravel and coarse sand enhanced the visual quality by 4.1 and 4.0%, root length by 50 and 38%, and root dry weight by 35 and 17% of Kentucky bluegrass, and reduced the accumulation of Na by 16% and 25%, ECe by 7% and 13% in the growing media.
