A novel theoretical solution is presented for created (zero initial radius) cavity expansion problem based on CamClay model and considers the effect of initial anisotropic in-situ stress and drained conditions. Here the strain of this theoretical solution is small deformation in elastic region and large deformation in plastic region. The works for cylindrical and spherical cavities expanding in drained condition from zero initial radius are investigated. Most of the conventional solutions were based on the isotropic and undrained condition, however, the initial stress state of natural soil mass is anisotropy by soil deposition history, and drained cavity expansion calculation is closer to actual engineering in permeable soil mass. Finally, the parametric study is presented in order to the engineering significance of this work.

This experiment was carried out to know adaptability and forage production and quality of sorghum, sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass and sudangrass hybrids depend on drained condition at paddy field from 2007 to 2008 at Chungnam province. Growth, forage production and quality of sorghum, sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass and sudangrass hybrids showed more well drained condition than poorly drained condition at paddy field. Among growth characteristics, 'SS405' hybrids were somewhat strong for waterlogging, then and good at stem diameter, disease resistance. The dry yield of 'SS405' hybrid at poorly drained paddy field was the highest as 12,938 kg per ha. Fresh yield of poorly drained paddy field was 52.7% compared to that of well drained paddy field. The dry matter yield of poorly drained paddy field was the lower as 66.4% than that of well drained condition. ADF (acid detergent fiber), NDF (neutral detergent fiber), CP (crude protein) and IVDMD (in vitro dry matter digestibility) in poorly drained paddy field were 90.3%, 100.6%, 85.7% and 89.6% level compared to well drained paddy field.
Recently, due to the expansion of urban infrastructure for the citizen convenience, the shield tunnel construction has increased considering the civil complaints minimization and construction stability. Most shield tunnels are designed based on the assumption of the undrained condition that underground water does not inflow, but they are operated in the field as drained tunnels with drainage facility to drain underground water. Therefore, the drained condition needs to be considered in the shield tunnel design. It is also necessary to consider the weathered granite soil that is widely distributed throughout the country and consequently is encountered in most of construction sites. In this paper, the model test which can control total stress and pore water pressure and simulate the underground tunnel located in the weathered granite soil below ground water level is conducted. Total stress, pore water pressure and an inflow water into an inner pipe were measured using the testing device. Test results showed that the total stress in a drained condition was lower than in an undrained condition because pore water pressure decreased in a drained condition and an inflow water into an inner pipe was proportional to the loading stress in a drained condition. As a result, if a drained condition is considered in the shield tunnel design, the more economical design can be expected because of the stress reduction of the lining.

This study was carried out to evaluate the seed quality of soybeans produced from upland and drained-paddy fields. Soybeans from drained-paddy field showed significantly higher in the 100 seeds weight and greater in the size of seed length than those from upland fields. However, there are no significant differences in seed width and thickness between upland and paddy fields. In case of Hunter's color value, the lightness (L) was significantly higher in the upland soybeans, but the a (redness) and b (yellowness) values were higher in the drained-paddy field soybeans. Seed appearance of drained-paddy field was poor than that of upland field. Soybeans produced from the drained-paddy field showed higher protein content, whereas, lipid and ash contents were higher in the upland field. Soybeans from upland field had lower contents of total amino acids compared to drained-paddy fields. No statistical differences were found in palmitic, linoleic, and linolenic, but stearic, oleic, saturated fatty acids (SFA), and unsaturated fatty acids (USFA) showed significant differences between soybean seeds from upland and drained-paddy fields. Genistein content was higher in the drained-paddy fields, while daidzein and glycitein contents were higher in the upland fields. This result suggested that the soil condition of drained-paddy field is more favorable to synthesis genistein than daidzein and glycitein.
Naturally occurring soybean isoflavones are known to be influenced by various genetic and environmental conditions. Growth, yield, and isoflavone content were determined in four different cultivars of soybean grown under drained paddy and upland fields. Most of growth characteristics and yield components of four different soybean cultivars harvested in drained paddy field were greater than those in upland field, regardless of cultivar. By means of high performance liquid chromatography, total daidzein and genistein contents of soybean in drained paddy field were increased up to 40 and 35%, respectively, compared with those in drained paddy field. Besides isoflavone contents, the growth and yield of soybean were significantly affected by cultivar and field conditions, indicating the necessity of genetic program for soybean cultivars appropriate to drained paddy field conditions. In conclusion, converting paddy field into upland may effectively improve soybean cropping system, especially in terms of isoflavone increment under paddy field conditions.

A series of cubical triaxial tests with three independent principal stresses was per- formed on Baekma river sand( # 40~100). It was found that the major principal strain at failure remained approximately constant for b values larger than about 0.3 for both the drained and undrained condition, and thereafter increased as b value decreased. The test results showed that the direction of the strain increment at failure form acute angles with the failure surfaces for both the drained and undrained condition. The results were thus not in agreement with the normality condition from classic plasticity theory. Howev- er, it was found that the projections of the plastic strain increment vectors on the octahe- dral plane were perpendicular to the failure surface in that plane. Failure strength in terms of effective stress anlaysis was greatly influenced by the variation of intermediate principal stress and so was failure criterion. The effective stress failure surfaces for both the drained and undrained condition were estimated quite well by use of Lade's failure criterion.
A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the transfer of As and cationic heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cd and Pb) from soil to rice plant in soil condition with submerged and drained. During the ninety-day monitoring period for soil solution, solubility of reducible elements such as As, Fe and Mn in submerged condition were higher than that of Zn. On the contrary, concentration of Zn in drained condition was higher than that of reducible elements. The concentration of As, Cd, Pb and Zn in rice plant (root, stem, leaf and grain) showed similar pattern with soil solution. The As concentration in each part of rice plant, which cultivated in drained condition, measured 56%~94% lower than those in submerged condition. However, the contents of cationic heavy metals (Cd, Pb and Zn) were represented the opposite result with As. These results are due to mobility of As and cationic heavy metals under different soil drainage conditions which represent oxidation and reduction. Thus soil drainage control can be used as acceptable passive treatment methods to reduce transfer of inorganic contaminants from soil to rice plant. However more detailed examination on soil condition conversion is needed, because yield of rice was decreased when it cultivated in drained condition only. It also needed when soil is contaminated by As and cationic heavy metal because single drainage condition cannot reduce transfer of both kinds of contaminants all.

This paper describes a systematic way of identifying the horizontal coefficient of consolidation for clayey soil under undrained condition and silty soil under partial drained condition by applying an optimization technique to the early part of dissipation data measured from the self-boring pressuremeter strain holding test. An analytical solution developed by Randolph & Wroth (1979) was implemented in normalized form to express the build-up and dissipation of excess pore pressures around a pressuremeter as a function of the rigidity index. Horizontal coefficient of consolidation was determined by minimizing the differences between theoretical and measured excess pore pressure curves using optimization technique. It was found that the proposed optimization technique can evaluate in-situ horizontal coefficient of consolidation rationally, which is similar with that obtained from the piezocone dissipation test. Furthermore, proposed method can evaluate appropriate coefficient of consolidation for soil under partially drained condition.
In order to ensure the stability of reinforced structures backfilled with low permeability soil, it is very important to determine the change in undrained pullout capacity compared to drained pullout capacity prior to design. In this research, a series of numerical analyses on laboratory pullout tests have been performed on different materials (clean sand, 5, 10, and 15% silty sand), different overburden pressures (30, 100 and 200 kPa), and different drainage conditions (drained and undrained) in order to compare drained pullout capacity with undrained pullout capacity. The results of numerical analysis also have been compared with the results of the laboratory pullout tests. The analysis results show that both drained and undrained pullout capacity are influenced by silt contents and increase with increase of friction angle of the soil and overburden pressure. In undrained condition, the effective stresses acting on the reinforcement decrease as excessive pore pressures are generated, resulting in decrease in pullout capacity; 57% for 30 kPa, and 70% for 100 and 200 kPa. These results show a good agreement with the results of the laboratory pullout tests performed under the same condition.
A three-dimensional elastoplastic constitutive model, also known as a UH model (Yao et al. 2009), was developed to describe the stress-strain relationship for normally consolidated and over-consolidated soils. In this paper, an acoustic tensor and discriminator of bifurcation for the UH model are derived for the strain localization of saturated clays under undrained and fully and partially drained conditions. Analytical analysis is performed to illustrate the points of bifurcation for the UH model with different three-dimensional stress paths. Numerical analyses of cubic specimens for the bifurcation of saturated clays under undrained and fully and partially drained conditions are conducted using ABAQUS with the UH model. Analytical and numerical analyses show the similar bifurcation behaviour of overconsolidated clays in three-dimensional stress states and various drainage conditions. The results of analytical and numerical analyses show that (1) the occurrence of bifurcation is dependent on the stress path and drainage condition; and (2) bifurcation can appear in either a strain-hardening or strain-softening regime.
