This paper presents an application of drainage control and slope stability by GIS-based hydrological modeling to control the surface water from an operational point of view. This study was carried out on a region of Pasir open-pit coal mine, Indonesia. A detailed topographical survey was performed at the study area to generate a reliable DEM (Digital Elevation Model). Hydrology tools implemented in ArcGIS 9.1 were used to extract the characteristics of drainage system such as flow direction, flow accumulation and catchment area from DEM. The results of hydrological modeling and spatial analysis showed that current arrangement of pumping facility is not suitable and some vulnerable places to erosion exist on the bench face due to concentrated surface runoff. Finally, some practical measures were suggested to optimize the design of drainage system and to monitor the slope stability by the surface water management at the study region during heavy rainfall.

Purpose: The objective of this retrospective clinical study was to provide evidence supporting the adjunctive local application of doxycycline solution or minocycline ointment, in conjunction with drainage, for the treatment of acute periodontal abscesses. Methods: The study included 63 patients who had received treatment for acute periodontal abscesses through drainage supplemented with 1 of 3 types of adjunctive medications during their initial visit (visit 1; baseline): 1) saline irrigation (the control group), 2) 2% minocycline ointment (the TM group), or 3) 300 mg/mL doxycycline irrigation (the TD group). The same adjunctive medication was administered at visit 2, which took place 1 week after visit 1. Probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index, gingival recession, clinical attachment level, and tooth mobility were clinically evaluated at visits 1, 2, and a third visit (visit 3; 4 weeks after visit 1). Statistical significance was considered to be indicated by P values <0.05. Results: By visit 3, all clinical indices and tooth mobility had significantly decreased in each group. At this visit, PD and BOP on the abscess side were significantly lower in the TM and TD groups compared to the control group. The TD group showed a significantly greater improvement than the TM group, with mean PD reductions of 1.09 mm in the control group, 1.88 mm in the TM group, and 2.88 mm in the TD group. Similarly, mean BOP reductions were 45% in the control group, 73.02% in the TM group, and 95.45% in the TD group. Conclusions: Local and adjunctive administration of doxycycline and minocycline in combination with drainage exhibited clinical advantages over drainage alone in improving PD and BOP. Notably, a doxycycline solution of 300 mg/mL was more effective than a 2% minocycline ointment.
The first drainage time in a day was controlled for precise irrigation management with low consumption of nutrient solution in tomato perlite bag culture system by measuring water level of drained water in drainage catchment part. This method automatically adjusted the irrigation time under any condition of light, temperature and humidity, resulting in stable water content in substrates. However, it was difficult to keep the time consistent as they were set. It drained with the deviation of 20 min in the treatment in which the first drainage time was set at 10:00 and 50 min in the treatment set at 10:30. The first drainage time was not constant, but the drain occurred stably before noon in the treatment of which irrigation frequency was longer than 30 min. The drainage ratio was better balanced in all the treatments using drainage level sensors than the treatment using time clock for irrigation control. High water and fertilizer efficiencies were obtained. Although the growth, total yield and sugar content were not significantly different between the treatments, fruit weight was higher in the treatments using drainage level sensors than that using timer.
With the mining depth continuously increasing, gas emission behaviors become more and more complex. Gas emission is an important basis for choosing the method of gas drainage, gas controlling. Thus, the accurate prediction of gas emission is of great significance for coal mine. In this work, based on the sources of gas emission from the heading faces and the fluid-solid coupling process, we established a gas continuous dynamic emission model, numerically simulated and applied it to the engineering. The result was roughly consistent with the actual situation and shows the model is correct. We proposed the measures of reducing the excavation distance and borehole gas drainage based on the model. The measures were applied and the result shows the overproof problem of gas emission disappears. The model considered the influence factors of gas emission wholly, and has a wide applicability, promotional value. The research is of great significance for the controlling of gas disaster, gas drainage and pre-warning coal and gas outbursts based on gas emission anomaly at the heading face.
The characteristics of floc formation of the iron(Fe) ions contained in the acid mine drainage was studied for developing the process treating the acid mine drainage. The iron(Fe) ions were formed into flocs by the acid-base reaction with the added $Ca(OH)_2$. The molal ratio of iron(Fe) vs $Ca(OH)_2$ was one of major control variables in treatment; pH change, iron(Fe) ions concentration in treated drainage, DO (dissolved oxygen content). In addition, the air gave much effect on the color of the $iron(Fe)-Ca(OH)_2$ flocs and the attachment to magnet. The attaching to the magnet of the flocs formed in the air was much less than the case without air.

The MDDA(Modified Dynamic Drainage Analyzer) was developed to evaluate the drainage at hydrofoil table roll and low vacuum devices on fourdrinier paper machine MB-former. Comparison of the results was obtained using a computer simulation system based on Taylor's equation and filtration equation and by measuring the consistency profile in a paper machine presented an agreement within 10.7% This device can evaluate the dewatering pro-file on wire for various stock properties adjust dewatering devices on fourdrinier paper machine and control the dosage of retention aids for improving paper structural properties and runnability of papermachine.
In order to prevent slope disasters caused by rainfall, it is very important to quickly exclude rainfall. In Korea, horizontal drainage holes with excellent economic feasibility and construction performance are generally applied as a method to lower the underground water level. However, horizontal drainage holes constructed on the site are often uniformly constructed regardless of the presence or absence of other water or ground conditions, and it is often difficult to expect drainage performance of horizontal drainage holes due to poor maintenance. In this study, an artificial ground was created using model construction and horizontal drainage experiments were conducted to measure the amount of horizontal drainage drain in a certain amount of control area 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and an evaluation table (draft) that can quantitatively evaluate horizontal drainage based on measurements and design documents is proposed as basic data.
Soil salinity is the most critical factor for crop production at reclaimed tidal saline soil. Subsurface drainage system is recognized as a powerful tool for the process of desalinization in saline soil. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of subsurface drainage systems on soil salinity and corn development at Saemangeum reclaimed tidal saline soil. The field experiments were carried out between 2012 and 2014 at Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land, Buan, Korea. Subsurface drainage was installed with four treatments: 1) drain spacing of 5 m, 2) drain spacing 10 m, 3) double layer with drain spacing 5 m and 10 m, and 4) the control without any treatment. The levels of water table showed shorter periods above 60 cm levels with the deeper installation of subsurface drainage system. Water soluble cations were significantly greater than exchangeable forms and soluble Na contents, especially in surface layer, were greatly reduced with the installation of subsurface drainage system. Subsurface drainage system improved biomass yield of corn and withering rate. Thus, the biomass yield of corn was improved and the shoot growth was more affected by salinity than was the root growth. The efficiency of double layer was not significant compared with the drain spacing of 5 m. The economic return to growers at reclaimed tidal saline soil was the greatest by the subsurface drainage system with 5 m drain spacing. Our results demonstrated that the installation of subsurface drainage system with drain space of 5 m spacing would be a best management practice to control soil salinity and corn development at Saemangeum reclaimed tidal saline soil.
Purpose: This study examined the effects of manual lymph drainage (MLD) on edema and the quality of life (QOL) of lymphedema patients in the maintenance phase. Method: Forty five lymphedema patients, who had completed intensive decongestive therapy, were enrolled in this study. All subjects were assigned randomly to two groups: Experimental (MLD) group (n=23) and control (self-MLD) group (n=22). MLD by a specialist was applied with a comfortable pressure for 40~60 minutes in the experimental group and self-MLD was carried out by the control group 5 times a week for 2 weeks. The % edema and a SF-36 questionnaire were used to measure the decrease in edema and the QOL. A paired t-test was used to compare the period, and an independent T-test was used to compare experiment and control groups. Result: The % edema was significantly lower in the experimental group after MLD (p<0.05). The physical, vitality, and mental health scores of the experimental group was significantly higher than those of the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: TMLD by a specialist in the maintenance phase is effective in reducing the % edema and enhancing the QOL of lymphedema patients. Further studies will be needed to determine if there are differences in the effects of many types of treatment methods in the lymphedema treatment.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of manual lymph drainage (MLD) on the activity of sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain and pressure pain threshold in subjects with psychological stress. Methods: Twenty-nine subjects with psychological stress were randomly assigned to experimental (MLD) and control (rest) groups. This study was performed as a controlled, randomized study using spectral analysis of electrocardiographic (ECG) activities, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT). Results: Heart rate variability differed significantly between the experimental and control groups (p<0.05). Anxiety and pain showed positive change in both group but it were not showed statically differences. The pressure pain threshold in the upper trapezius muscle was increased in the experimental group (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the application of MLD was effective in reducing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, anxiety, pain, and increasing the PPT.
