  • Due to the high proportion of mountainous terrain in Korean territory and the concentration of heavy rainfall during the summer season, concerns arise about the potential decrease in slope stability caused by rainfall. Installing slope drainage facilities mitigates the rise in groundwater levels due to infiltration, thus enhancing slope stability. Horizontal drains, classified as auxiliary facilities among drainage systems, lack established installation standards and related research. Slopes with installed horizontal drains have been confirmed to exhibit higher safety factors compared to those without. Furthermore, the safety factor of mimicking horizontal drains by increasing the permeability coefficient of the surrounding ground was compared with that of the conventional simulation method using the Drain function. As a result of the comparison, it was confirmed that the installation length showed better drainage performance than the installation angle in the drainage performance of the horizontal drainage hole, and it was judged that the installation length was a more important factor.

  • Recently, natural disasters due to abnormal climates are frequently outbreaking, and there is rapid increase of damage to aged agricultural infrastructure. As agricultural infrastructure facilities are in contact with water throughout the year and the number of them is significant, it is important to build a maintenance management system. Especially, the current maintenance management system of pumping and drainage stations among the agricultural facilities has the limit of lack of objectivity and management personnel. The purpose of this study is to develop a performance evaluation model using the factors related to performance degradation of pumping and drainage facilities and to predict the performance of the facilities in response to climate change. In this study, we focused on the pumping and drainage stations belonging to each climatic zone separated by the Korea geographical climatic classification system. The performance evaluation model was developed using three different statistical models of POLS, RE, and LASSO. As the result of analysis of statistical models, LASSO was selected for the performance evaluation model as it solved the multicollinearity problem between variables, and showed the smallest MSE. To predict the performance degradation due to climate change, the climate change response variables were classified into three categories: climate exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. The performance degradation prediction was performed at each facility using the developed performance evaluation model and the climate change response variables.

  • Both domestic and overseas urban drainage systems have been actively researched to solve the problems of urban flash floods and the flood damage that is caused by local downpours. Recent urban planning has been designed to better manage the floods of decentralized rainfall-management systems, and the installation of green infrastructure and low-impact development (LID) facilities at national ministries has been recommended. In this study, we use the EPA SWMM model to construct a decentralized rainfall-management network for each small watershed, and we analyze the effect of the drainage-capacity improvement from the installation of the LID technologies in vulnerable areas that replaces the network-expansion process. In the design of the existing urban piping systems, it is common to increase the pipe size due to the increment of the impervious area, the steep terrain, and the sensitive entrance-ramp junction; however, the installation of green infrastructure and LID facilities will be sufficient for the construction of a safe urban drainage system. The applications of LID facilities and green infrastructure in urban areas can positively affect the recovery of the corresponding water cycles to a healthy standard, and it is expected that further research will occur in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a standard calculation program of forest road drainage facilities that may help forest road designers to design forest road drainage facilities more conveniently and precisely. Especially, the characteristics of this program is that the forest road designers may calculate the amount of outflow in the basin using rainfall intensity data conveniently, without the data designers should acquire through site measurements when they carry out indoor preliminary measurements before they go out for outdoor measurements. In this manner, excessive design may be restrained by offering minimum standard calculation for drainage structures. And also this study was designed to facilitate proper layout of drainage structures by calculating outflow discharge of each basin where forest roads will be installed. Especially, this study will contribute to leveling-up of forest design techniques as the researcher has prepared the reports on whole process of drain pipe installation and provided them in the form of computer file or printout, which show a rational design process, and make it possible to modify in case of an error.

  • This paper is a part of "The Study of the Traditionla Korean Ethnic Farmhousing in Yanbian, China" The purpose of this study is to investigate the facilities and equipments of the traditional farmhouse in the villages of Lungching China. The data is collected from 124 households in the villages based on the survey conducted using questionnaire and photograph. The major findings are: 1) The people in farmhouse use wood as a fuel for cooking and the method of cooking is traditional style using their iron pots. 2) Heating system of the house is ondol type of heating using. wood which is also traditional type. This means that the floor heating of the house and cooking food can be carried out simultaneously. 3) Even though pump system and running water system are the two kinds of water supply that are available in the villages, majority of people use pump system. Many houses have no drainage facilities but few houses have got bad drainage system. 4) From the planning stage of the farm house facilities and equipments for ventilation is not considered and hence it is not provided in most of the houses. 5) Farmhouses are oriented to the south and the windows and the doors are covered either with viny1 or cloth during winter time effecting the lighting system of the house. 6)Many of the houses use incandescent lights. But the switchs and the electric Outlets are short in number. 7) Sanitation facilities are worst equipped compared to other facilities present in Lungching villages of China. of China.

  • For the last two decades, Seoul has always been affected by large floods. As climate change causes more frequent localized heavy rains exceeding the capacity of sewer or river to discharge water, flood damage is expected to increase. Under the situation, detention facilities for lacking capacity of sewers can control stormwater runoff to reduce flood damage in urbanized areas. In this study, in order to reduce flood damage in Cheonggyecheon areas, the capacity of detention facilities was decided to make up for the lacking capacity of main sewers in case of the rainfall in July, 2001 as large flood. The average amount of stormwater detained in eight Cheonggyecheon drainage areas is $235.09m^3/ha$. Location and size of stormwater detention facilities is designed to have effects in short term by targeting the reduction of flood damage. Schools and parks are suggested as optimal locations where detention facilities are constructed in drainage areas.

  • In this study, the amount of harmful fungi and bacteria contained in the drainage and culture medium from the paprika hydroponic facility is identified. In addition, by proposing the necessity of effective purification of discharged drainage, this study attempted to confirm the possibility of drainage reuse. Finally, this study provides basic data on the basis for calculating the need for purification facilities in the future, as well as improvements in horticulture facility for sustainable agriculture. As a result of the analysis, a total of 12 types of fungi were detected in paprika medium and 10 types of fungi were detected in the drainage, and their densities were 130 and 68, respectively. Among the fungi detected in the media and drainage of the paprika hydroponic facility, the fungi with the highest detection frequency are Fusarium, Phytophthora, and Pythium. In the case of bacteria, a total of 2 types of bacteria were detected in the paprika facilities, and the density was 28 and 23, respectively. Therefore, in order to reuse the drainage and settle the circulating hydroponic cultivation system, a water treatment process capable of appropriate treatment is required.

  • Power plants that produce electricity through thermal power plants mainly store coal in outdoor storage yards. In particular, coal is directly exposed to rainwater during rainfall, including torrential rain. There is no separate drainage facility in the outdoor coal yard, and coal is simply stored on the ground. Accordingly, during rainfall, coal dust flows down by rainwater, and a large amount of rainwater that is not drained overflows the outdoor coal yard, overflowing the surrounding facilities and causing environmental pollution. Therefore, in this study, a drainage system was developed for the rapid drainage of an outdoor coal mine, and the quality of the water was evaluated when rainwater mixed with drainage characteristics and coal dust was discharged through the drainage system.
