  • The emerging smart utility networks (SUN) provide two-way communications between smart meters and smart appliances for purpose of low power usage, low cost, and high reliability. This paper deals with a bandwidth-efficient communication method based on the hidden pilot-aided scheme using a precoder in downlink SUN suitable for high-rate multimedia applications. With the aid of the design of a precoder and a superimposed hidden pilot, it is possible to estimate the channel without loss of bandwidth. In the channel estimation procedure, the inevitable data interference, which degrades the performance of channel estimation, can be reduced by the precoder design with an iterative scheme. Computer simulations show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional method in terms of achievable data rate, especially when a large number of subcarriers are employed.

  • This paper proposes 4-STTD(4${\times}$l) technique for the shake of application of W-CDMA which expand Alamouti STTD(2${\times}$l) technique. As the result of analyzing 4-STTD(4${\times}$l) technique proposed in this paper, we can see improvement of quality by approximately 2.2 dB rather than Alamouti STTD(2${\times}$l) technique

  • While CDMA systems are proven to be excellent solutions for cellular communications, they suffer from severe multi-path interferences and are unable to support high-data-rate transmissions over frequency-selective fading channels. This paper introduces a novel downlink transmission method for next generation mobile communication systems. The proposed method allows frequency-domain equalization at the receiver while maintaining the compatibility with the 3rdgeneration CDMA systems.

  • This paper represents an attempt to bring together and analyses the measurement data measured by the Satellite Signal Monitoring Center in Korea and the Korea Meteorological Administration/Korea Meteorological Research Institute in close cooperation with this study team. This paper presents the signal characteristic of GEO satellite operating in frequency range 1 to 20GHz associated with Asian Sand Dust (the so-called Yellow Sand Dust). The downlink signal power (dBm) for L-, S-, C-, Ku-, and Ka-band frequencies from GEO satellites were measured in a clear weather and in Asian Sand Dust weather by the Satellite Signal Monitoring Center. The measured signal power(dBm) were compared to the total number concentration and size distribution of Sand Dust that were measured by the Korea Meteorological Administration/Korea Meteorological Research Institute and the possible correlation between these sets data were analyzed. The results demonstrate that the downlink signal level (dBm) of GEO satellite is attenuated by Asian Sand Dust. Hitherto, merger information has been reported as to the influence of sand dust on satellite communications operating in regions affected by sand dust.

  • Downlink transmit power allocation schemes are proposed for soft fractional frequency reuse (FFR) in loose and tightly coordinated systems. The transmit powers are allocated so that the loss of spectral efficiency from the soft FFR is minimized, and the required cell edge user throughput is guaranteed. The effect of the soft FFR on spectral efficiency is evaluated depending on the power allocation schemes and the number of subbands. Results show that the loss of spectral efficiency from the soft FFR can be reduced by configuring an appropriate number of subbands in the loosely coordinated systems. In tightly coordinated systems, results show that the loss of spectral efficiency can be minimized regardless of the number of subbands due to its fast coordination.

  • CDMA/TOD with asymmetric capacity allocation between uplink and downlink is a highly attractive solution to support the next generation mobile systems. This is because flexible asymmetric allocation of capacity to uplink and downlink usually improves the utilization of the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we mathematically formulate an optimal timeslot and code allocation problem, which is to maximize the total utility considering the numbers of codes(channels) allocated to each data class and the forced terminations of previously allocated codes. We also suggest a real-time integrated timeslot and code allocation scheme using Lagrangean relaxation and subgradient optimization techniques. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides high-quality solutions in a fast time.

  • We propose a transmit beamforming algerian for array antenna in FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) environments. The proposed method estimates the directions and spectra of the users, and constructs the spatial covariance matrix of the interferences at the downlink frequency. The weights are computed by that covariance matrix and desired user's direction vector Simulations are performed under Rayleigh fading environments. The proposed method don't need the data feedback, has the enhanced performance in BER (Bit Error Rate).
