We have developed highly stabilized (p-i-n)-type protocrystalline silicon (pc-Si:H) multilayer solar cells. To achieve a high conversion efficiency, we applied a double-layer p-type amorphous silicon-carbon alloy $(p-a-Si_{1-x}C_x:H)$ structure to the pc-Si:H multilayer solar cells. The less pronounced initial short wavelength quantum efficiency variation as a function of bias voltage proves that the double $(p-a-Si_{1-x}C_x:H)$ layer structure successfully reduces recombination at the p/i interface. It was found that a natural hydrogen treatment involving an etch of the defective undiluted p-a-SiC:H window layer before the hydrogen-diluted p-a-SiC:H buffer layer deposition and an improvement of the order in the window layer. Thus, we achieved a highly stabilized efficiency of $9.0\%$ without any back reflector.

Fabrications of barrier layer on a polyethersulfon (PES) film and OLED based on a plastic substrate by atomic layer deposition (ALD) have been carried out. Simultaneous deposition of 30 nm of $AlO_x$ film on both sides of PES film gave film MOCON value of 0.0615 g/$m^2$/day (@38$^{\circ}C$, 100 % R.H.). Moreover, the double layer of 200 urn $SiN_x$ film deposited by PECVD and 20 nm of $AlO_x$ film by ALD resulted in the MOCON value lower than the detection limit of MOCON. The OLED encapsulation performance of the double layer have been investigated using the OLED structure of ITO/MTDATA(20 nm)/NPD(40 nm)/AlQ(60 nm)/LiF(1 nm)/Al(75 nm) based on the plastic substrate. Preliminary life time to 91 % of initial luminance (1300 cd/$m^2$) was 260 hours for the OLED encapsulated with 100 nm of PECVD deposited $SiN_x$/30 nm of ALD deposited $AlO_x$.
In this paper, the effect of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) on the lateral strength of a bearing unreinforced Masonry (URM) wall, was experimentally and numerically investigated. Two half scale solid walls were constructed and were tested under quasi-static lateral loading. The first specimen was an un-retrofitted masonry wall (reference wall) while the second one was retrofitted by ECC mortar connected to the wall foundation via steel rebar dowels. The effect of pre-compression level, ECC layer thickness and one or double-side retrofitting on the URM wall lateral strength was numerically investigated. The validation of the numerical model was carried out from the experimental results. The results indicated that the application of ECC layer increases the wall lateral strength and the level of increment depends on the above mentioned parameters. Increasing pre-compression levels and the lack of connection between the ECC layer and the wall foundation reduces the influence of the ECC mortar on the wall lateral strength. In addition, the wall failure mode changes from flexure to the toe-crashing behavior. Furthermore, in the case of ECC layer connected to the wall foundation, the ECC layer thickness and double-side retrofitting showed a significant effect on the wall lateral strength. Finally, a simple method for estimating the lateral strength of retrofitted masonry walls is presented. The results of this method is in good agreement with the numerical results.
Zr-O ($Zr-ZrO_2$) cermets solar selective coatings with a double cermets layer film structure were prepared using a DC (direct current) magnetron sputtering method. The typical film structure from surface to bottom substrate were an $Al_2O_3$ anti-reflection layer on a double Zr-O cermets layer on an Al metal infrared reflection layer. Optical properties of optimized Zr-O cermets solar selective coating had an absorptance of ${\alpha}\;=\;0.95$ and thermal omittance of ${\epsilon}\;=\;0.10\;(100^{\circ}C)$. The absorbing layer of Zr-O cermets coatings on glass and silicon substrate was identified as being amorphous by using XRD. AFM showed that ZF-O cermets layers were very smooth and their surface roughness were approximately $0.1{\sim}0.2 nm$. The chemical analysis of the cermets coatings were determined by using XPS. Chemical shift of photoelectron binding energy was occurred due to the change of Zr-O cermets coating structure deposited with increase in oxygen flow rate. The result of thermal stability test showed that the Zr-O cermets solar selective coating was stable for use at temperature below $350^{\circ}C$.

Recent years, supercapacitors have been attracting a growing attention as an efficient energy storage, due to their long-lifetime, device reliability, simple device structure and operation mechanism and, most importantly, high power density. Along with the increasing interest in flexible/stretchable electronics, the supercapacitors with compatible mechanical properties have been also required. A eutectic gallium-indium (EGaIn) liquid metal could be a strong candidate as a soft electrode material of the supercapacitors because of its insulating surface oxide layer for electric double layer formation. Here, we report the electrochemical study on the charging/reaction process at the interface of EGaIn liquid metal and electrolyte. Numerical fitting of the charging current curves provides the capacitance of EGaIn/insulating layer/electrolyte (${\sim}38F/m^2$). This value is two orders of magnitude higher than a capacitance of a general metal electrode/electrolyte interface.

We have fabricated good quality superconducting YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$(YBCO) thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrates with CeO$_2$and BaTiO$_3$buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. YBCO film with CeO$_2$single buffer layer shows T$_{c}$ of 71.64 K and the grain size less than 0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. When BaTiO$_3$ is used as a single buffer layer, the grain size of YBCO is observed to be larger than that of YBCO/CeO$_2$by 200 times and the transition temperature of the film is enhanced to be about 84 K. CeO$_2$/BaTiO$_3$double buffer layer has been adopted to enhance the superconducting properties, which results in the enhancement of the critical temperature and the critical current density to be about 85 K and 8.4$\times$10$^4$ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 77 K, respectively mainly due to the enlargement of the grain size of YBCO film.ilm.
Planar type thin film inductors have a potential for the application of miniaturized DC-DC converters. For those high current applications, the magnetic film with high current capability is required. The current capability of magnetic films is mainly determined from high saturation magnetization (4$\piM_s$) as well as large anisotropy field $(H_k)$. We fabricated a double rectangular spiral thin film inductor which consist of magnetic layer, coil and insulator. Highest inductance values as well as best frequency characteristics can be obtained from 5 MHz and quality factor exhibit about 7.
We report the fabrication of double clad fiber (DCF) and DCF coupler, suitable for fiber based imaging systems requiring the dual-channel transmission. Unlike the conventional DCF which uses silica for both cladding layers, the proposed DCF uses a low-index polymer for its outer-cladding layer coated over the conventional silica inner-cladding layer. The DCF is drawn with a conventional SMF preform but a low-index polymer coating is used for both jacket and outercladding of the fiber. To achieve the cladding mode coupling, a DCF coupler is fabricated by simply twisting two pieces of the proposed DCF after removing the polymer-coating at contacting regions. A cladding mode coupling ratio of 30% was achieved with a contact length of 16 cm. The proposed DCF and DCF coupler were employed in a composite optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) system, and both OCT images and FS signal from a plant tissue are measured simultaneously.
A numerical analysis method was studied to predict the nonlinear behavior of slender double skin composite walls. For convenience in numerical analysis, the model for the double skin composite wall was developed as a macroscopic model that can predict nonlinear behavior with relatively simplified models. For the wall showing flexure-dominant behavior, a multiple layer model was used. Each layer was modeled with composite elements of concrete and steel plate. An X-type truss model was used for coupling beams showing shear-dominant behavior. To describe the cyclic behavior of concrete and steel elements, simplified cyclic models for the materials were proposed. The proposed analysis model was applied to isolated walls and coupled walls with rectangular or T-shaped cross-sections. The analytical results were compared with existing test results.

This paper presents an investigation on the free vibration characteristics of functionally graded nanocomposite double-beams reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The double-beams coupled by an interlayer spring, resting on the elastic foundation with a linear layer and shear layer, and is simply supported in thermal environments. The SWCNTs gradient distributed in the thickness direction of the beam forms different reinforcement patterns. The materials properties of the functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) are estimated by rule of mixture. The first order shear deformation theory and Euler-Lagrange variational principle are employed to derive the motion equations incorporating the thermal effects. The vibration characteristics under several patterns of reinforcement are presented and discussed. We conducted a series of studies aimed at revealing the effects of the spring stiffness, environment temperature, thickness ratios and carbon nanotube volume fraction on the nature frequency.
