Rectangular prism pressure coherence by modified Morlet continuous wavelet transform

  • This study investigates the use of time-frequency coherence analysis for detecting and evaluating coherent "structures" of surface pressures and wind turbulence components, simultaneously on the time-frequency plane. The continuous wavelet transform-based coherence is employed in this time-frequency examination since it enables multi-resolution analysis of non-stationary signals. The wavelet coherence quantity is used to identify highly coherent "events" and the "coherent structure" of both wind turbulence components and surface pressures on rectangular prisms, which are measured experimentally. The study also examines, by proposing a "modified" complex Morlet wavelet function, the influence of the time-frequency resolution and wavelet parameters (i.e., central frequency and bandwidth) on the wavelet coherence of the surface pressures. It is found that the time-frequency resolution may significantly affect the accuracy of the time-frequency coherence; the selection of the central frequency in the modified complex Morlet wavelet is the key parameter for the time-frequency resolution analysis. Furthermore, the concepts of time-averaged wavelet coherence and wavelet coherence ridge are used to better investigate the time-frequency coherence, the coherently dominant events and the time-varying coherence distribution. Experimental data derived from physical measurements of turbulent flow and surface pressures on rectangular prisms with slenderness ratios B/D=1:1 and B/D=5:1, are analyzed.

Diagnostic Studies of Plasmas in Saline Solutions: the Frequency Effects and the Electrode Erosion Mechanism

  • Plasmas in saline solutions receive considerable attention in recent years. How the operating parameters influence the plasma characteristics and how the electrode erosion occurs have been topics that require further study. In the first part of this talk, the effect of the frequency on the plasmas characteristics in saline solution driven by 50~1000 Hz AC power will be presented. Two distinct modes, namely bubble and jetting modes, are identified. The bubble mode occurs under low frequencies. In this mode, one mm-sized bubble is tightly attached to the electrode tip and oscillates with the applied voltage. With an increase in the frequency, it shows the jetting mode, in which many smaller bubbles are continuous formed and jetted away from the electrode surface. Multiple mechanisms that are potentially responsible to such a change in bubble dynamics have been proposed and the dominant mechanism is identified. From the Stark broadening of the hydrogen optical emission line, electron densities in both modes are estimated. It shows clearly that the driving frequency greatly influences the bubble dynamics, which in turn alters the plasma behavior. In the second part, the study of the erosion of a tungsten electrode immersed in saline solution under conditions suitable for bio-medical applications is presented. The electrode is immersed in 0.1 M saline solution and is positively or negatively biased using a DC power source up to 600 V. It is identified that when the electrode is positively biased, erosion by the surface electrolytic oxidation is the dominant mechanism with an applied voltage below 150 V. An increase in the applied voltage leads to the formation of the plasma and the damage by the plasma and the thermal effect becomes more prominent. The formation of the gas film at the electrode surface leads to the formation of the plasma and hinders the electrolytic erosion. In the negatively-biased electrode, no electrolytic oxidation is seen and the damage is mostly likely due to the plasma erosion and the thermal effect.

중첩 모델링을 통한 발파진동의 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Blasting Vibration by Superposition Modeling)

  • 본 연구에서는 측정된 진동파형을 토대로 다른 발파공들로부터 간섭을 받지 않은 단일공의 진동파형을 분리 하였고 이를 FFT 주파수 분석을 통하여 우세 주파수를 분석하였다. 또한 진동의 지속시간과 발파공수가 PPV에 미치는 영향을 검토하기 위해 분리된 진동파형을 $2{\sim}15$공으로 발파공수를 조절하면서 $1{\sim}80ms$까지 1 ms의 간격으로 지연시차에 변화를 주며 발파진동에 중첩 모델링을 실시하였다. 그 결과 진동의 지속시간이 길어질수록 다른 발파공들로부터 간섭받지 않기 위한 지연시차 또한 길어졌고 동일 지연시차 내에서의 발파공 수에 관한 영향은 크게 나타나지 않았다.

시추공 및 누두공 발파자료의 터널설계 적용 (Tunnel Blasting Design with Equations Obtained from Borehole and Crater Blasting)

  • 터널 및 지하공동 설계에 이용된 23개 지역의 578개의 시추공발파 진동 data와 시공 중인 일반터널의 4개 지역으로부터 221개 진동 data를 이용, 시추공발파의 진동전달 특성을 분석하였다. 시추공발파와 일반터널발파의 진동속도 감쇠 경향을 비교 분석한 결과 시추공발파의 입지상수들이 크게 나타났다. 환산거리가 클 때 최대 허용장약량은 시추공발파의 식으로 계산한 것이 더 적었다. 주진동수에 대한 주파수 분석결과 시추공발파는 30∼60Hz, 일반터널발파는 60∼90Hz로 나타났다. 이러한 결과로부터 시추공발파 자료를 터널발파 설계에 직접 사용하는데 다소의 문제가 있는 것으로 판단되며 보다 정확한 설계를 위하여 통계적 처리가 불가피할 것으로 보인다.

토큰 코히런스 프로토콜을 위한 경서열 트렌지언트 요청 처리 방법 (New Transient Request with Loose Ordering for Token Coherence Protocol)

  • Token coherence protocol has many good reasons against snooping/directory-based protocol in terms of latency, bandwidth, and complexity. Token counting easily maintains correctness of the protocol without global ordering of request which is basis of other dominant cache coherence protocols. But this lack of global ordering causes starvation which is not happening in snooping/directory-based protocols. Token coherence protocol solves this problem by providing an emergency mechanism called persistent request. It enforces other processors in the competition (or accessing same shared memory block, to give up their tokens to feed a starving processor. However, as the number of processors grows in a system, the frequency of starvation occurrence increases. In other words, the situation where persistent request occurs becomes too frequent to be emergent. As the frequency of persistent requests increases, not only the cost of each persistent matters since it is based on broadcasting to all processors, but also the increased traffic of persistent requests will saturate the bandwidth of multiprocessor interconnection network. This paper proposes a new request mechanism that defines order of requests to reduce occurrence of persistent requests. This ordering mechanism has been designed to be decentralized since centralized mechanism in both snooping-based protocol and directory-based protocol is one of primary reasons why token coherence protocol has advantage in terms of latency and bandwidth against these two dominant Protocols.

동일 평면상에서 연성된 Mindlin 판 구조물의 에너지흐름유한요소해석 (Energy Flow Finite Element Analysis(EFFEA) of Coplanar Coupled Mindlin Plates)

  • Energy flow analysis(EFA) is a representative method that can predict the statistical energetics of structures at high frequencies. Generally, as the frequency increases, the shear distortion and rotatory inertia effects in the out-of-plane motion of beams or plates become important. Therefore, to predict the out-of-plane energetics of coupled structures in the high frequency range, the energy flow analyses of Timoshenko beam and Mindlin plate are required. Unlike the energy flow model of Kirchhoff plate, the energy flow model of Mindlin plate is composed of three kinds of energy governing equations(out-of-plane shear wave, bending dominant flexural wave, and shear dominant flexural wave). This paper performed the energy flow finite element analysis(EFFEA) of coplanar coupled Mindlin plates. For EFFEA of coplanar coupled Mindlin plates, the energy flow finite element formulation of out-of-plane energetics in the Mindlin plate was performed. The general EFFEA program was implemented by MATLAB® language. For the verification of EFFEA of Mindlin plate, the various numerical applications were done successfully.

풍력터빈 블레이드 주위 흐름의 유동특성에 대한 실험적 분석 (Experimental Analysis of Flow Characteristics around Wind-Turbine Blades)

  • The flow and noise characteristics of wake behind wind-turbine blades have been investigated experimentally using a two-frame particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. Experiments were carried out in a POSTECH subsonic large wind-tunnel ($1.8^W{\times}1.5^H{\times}4.3^L\;m^3$) with KBP-750D (3-blade type) wind-turbine model at a freestream velocity of $U_o\;=\;15\;m/s$ and a tip speed ratio $\lambda\;=\;6.14$ (2933 rpm). The wind-turbine blades are connected to an AC servo motor, brake, encoder and torque meter to control the rotational speed and to extract a synchronization signal for PIV measurements. The wake flow was measured at four azimuth angles ($\phi\;=\;0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$) of the wind-turbine blade. The dominant flow structure of the wake is large-scale tip vortices. The turbulent statistics such as turbulent intensity are weakened as the flow goes downstream due to turbulent dissipation. The dominant peak frequency of the noise signal is identical to the rotation frequency of blades. The noise seems to be mainly induced by the tip vortices.

광릉내 용암산 식물군집의 천이와 이질성 (Succession and Heterogeneity of Plant Community in Mt. Yongam, Kwangnung Experimental Forest)

  • In order to study the successional trend and the heterogeneity of forest community, we investigated DBH frequency distribution of dominant tree species and the changes of several community indicies including ${\beta}-diversity\;({\beta}_t)$ along a belt transect in Mt. Yongam, Kwangnung Experimental Forest, which has been preserved for about 530 years. Quercus serrata, Carpinus laxiflora, and C. cordata were the three dominant species and their DBH frequency distribution showed a reverse J-shaped form, so these species seem to maintain by themselves. Dominancediversity curve had a lognormal distribution. d and H'for pooled quadrats were 0.13 and 1.09, respectively, but these indices within each quadiat varied with the range of 0.13 to 0.57 and 0.5 to 1.09, respectively. The value of ${\beta}_t$ along the belt transect ranged from 0.14 to 0.42. These results suggest that this forest community is in the stable climax stage but the components experience a heterogeneous microsuccession.

사장교의 지진 응답 제어를 위한 납고무 받침의 설계 기준 제안 (Guidelines of Designing Lead Rubber Bearing for a Cable-Stayed Bridge In Control Seismic Response)

  • In tile design of base isolation system for building and short-span bridge, shift of the natural period of the structure is main objective. But, most long-span bridges such as a cable-stayed bridges have a number of long-period modes due to their flexibility and small structural damping. thus the design concept of base isolation system for building and short-span brigde may be difficult to use directly to these structures. However, the effectiveness of LRB for cable-stayed bridges is indicated by Ali and Abdel-Ghaffar. In this study, the design procedure and guidelines of LRB for a seismically excited cable-stayed bridge are investigated. The design properties of LRB are chosen that the design index(DI) is minimized or little changed for variation of properties. This result show that the stiffer rubber and bigger lead core size are need to cable-stayed bridges. And the seismic performance of designed LRB is also investigated. The consequences show that the perforamnce of designed LRB is better than that of Naeim-Kelly mettled designning LRB for general building structures. Moreover, the design properties of LRB are researched to several diffrent dominant frequency of earthquake. The results present that the plastic and elastic stiffness of LRB are affected by the dominant frequency of earthquake.

속리산 국립공원의 주연부식생구조 (Edge Vegetation Structure in the Mt. Sokri National Park)

  • 속리산국립공원의 환경유형별 주연부식생구조를 밝히기 위해 1990년 8월에 현지조사를 한 결과는 다음과 같다. 주연부식생의 수관층위별 우점수종, 종구성의 유사도는 기존식생, 고도, 방위, 지형적 위치의 환경 요인에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 정상부 주연부식생은 다른 환경유형과 심한 차이를 나타냈다. 주연부의 종다양도는 중복부 북사면이 가장 높게, 남사면이 가장 낮게 나타났고, 전 환경 유형의 아교목층에서 좁은단풍나무가 우점종으로 출현했다. 고도. 방위, 지형적위치에 따라 주연부수종들의 출현밀도의 차이가 있었으며, 고도, 방위, 지형적 위치 등에 관계없이 좁은단풍나무, 신갈나무, 물푸레나무, 조록싸리, 병꽃나무가 높은 출현빈도를 나타냈다.
