Four in situ incubation experiments were conducted in May, August and November 2009, as well as February 2010 to determine the seasonal primary productivity and the community structure of phytoplankton at the Seomjin estuary. The primary production of phytoplankton ranged from 9 to 3560 mgC $m^{-2}\;d^{-1}$. Primary productivity was the highest in the summer season (August), which was influenced by improved optical and temperature conditions of the water, as well as the supply of nutrients derived from its surrounding watershed. Particularly, the upper station (SJ-1, SJ-2) of Seom-jin estuary showed a higher productivity, as a result of inflow of input nutrients originated from the terrestrial source. The fucoxanthin, as an index pigment of diatoms showed the highest concentration (0.74~9.51 ${\mu}g\;L^{-1}$) at all stations, occupying 30~80% to total Chl a concentrations. The phytoplankton species composition determination, using a microscope showed similar results to the pigment analysis, which indicated diatom Skeletonema costatum, as the dominant species. The primary productivity in Seom-jin estuary indicates temporally and spatially large variation, according to different environmental conditions. Also, Skeletonema costatum has euryhaline features with relatively higher contribution.
This study was focused on the investigation of the phytoplankton flora and community structure for changing of water environment at the rivers in the lower part of Nakdong river, The samples for this study were collected every month from Jan. 2004 To Dec. 2004. the 196 species belonged to 94 genera were identified during this study periods. The number of species was recorded the maximum 124 taxa in summer and the minimum 69 taxa in winter, We observed the maximum taxa (92 taxa) at the site No. 20 and the minimum taxa (55 taxa) at the site No. 8, respectively. Among the phytoplankton communities, diatoms were dominated over 40% of total phytoplankton groups. Subdominant groups were green algae (over 20% of total phytplankton groups). During this study periods, the 60 species were investigated ecologically significant species (46 cosmopolitic species, 25 pollution indicator, 21 redtide causative species, 8 dominant species, and 7 frequently occurred species). According to the cluster analysis by similarity index, the study sites could be divided into 4 groups.
This study is aimed at elucidating the source rocks of the Hayang strata in the northeastern part of the Gyeongsang Basin. Zircon morphology was analyzed for sandstones from the Iljig, Hupyeongdong, and Jeomgog formations of the Hayang Group and Precambrian gneisses and Jurassic granites. Generally, the composite zircon crystals extracted from the basement rocks and the Hayang Group sandstones show short prismatic to middle prismatic shapes. {110)={100) prism type is dominant and (101) pyramid is the average of the zircon morphology data. Zircon index@) and the shape trend characteristics clearly show that the zircon crystal forms of the Iljig and Hupyeongdong sandstones are dominantly similar to those of the biotite banded gneiss and granite gneiss of Precambrian age. Zircon morphology of the Jeomgog sandstones is dominantly similar to those of the Jurassic granites. Referring to the reported paleocurrent result, the source rocks of the Iljig and Hupyeongdong formations are mainly the Precambrian gneisses distributed in the southeastern and northeastern parts, respectively. And Jeomgog sandstones were mainly derived from Cheongsong granite at Cheongsong uplift region in the eastern part. At the time of completion of the Hupyeongdong sedimentation, the Precambrian basement rocks were severely eroded and formed low topography. During the Jeomgog period, the Jurassic granites which intruded the Precambrian basement began to crop out on the surface. The basin widely extended toward the east and the exposed Jurassic granite of Cheongsong uplift region actively supplied the sediments to the basin.
This study surveyed Gyeongan Stream, a tributary of the Han River Drainage System, from April to October 2017 to investigate the characteristics of fish communities. The survey collected 40 species of 11 families from 48 survey stations using kick nets and cast nets. The dominant and subdominant species were Zacco platypus (48.0%) and Rhynchocypris oxycephalus (17.7%), respectively. The next most abundant species were Pungtungia herzi (6.8%), Z. koreanus (5.0%), Carassius auratus (4.3%), Squalidus gracilis majimae (2.7%), and Rhodeus notatus (2.5%). Among the fish collected, 14 species (35.0%) were Korean endemic species, and the exotic species were Micropterus salmoides, Lepomis macrochirus, and Cyprinus carpio (Israeli type). The land-locked species were Plecoglossus altivelis, Rhinogobius brunneus, and Cottus koreanus, while the species sensitive to climate change was C. koreanus. The community analysis showed that the dominance was higher at the uppermost stream station, whereas diversity and abundance tended to be lower at the upstream station and higher toward the downstream station. The community structure was largely divided into rivers (uppermost stream, upstream, and middle-lower stream) and lake. The river health was mostly good (23 stations, 47.9%) and fair (15 stations, 31.3%). Comparison with past surveys showed that 12 species identified in the past surveys did not appear in this survey; nine species appeared for the first time in this survey; and the ecosystem disturbance species - M. salmoides and L. macrochirus - tended to spread more widely gradually.
The spawning season, growth and feeding habit of tubesnout, Aulichthys japonicus were examined from the samples collected by a small beam trawl in the Zostera marina belt at the coastal water off Hamduck, Cheju Island, from May 1993 to May 1994. Tubesnout was the dominant species of overall 58 species collected in the study area throughout the year. The larvae and juvenile of tubesnout in the frequency distributions of body length began to appear in the Z. marina belt in March, and adults disappeared after May in the following year. The gonad weight index (GWI) and the condition factor (K) were high from November 1993 to January 1994 for males, while females were high from February to May 1994. Although tubesnout is an oviparous fish, males have the urogenital papilla. These results suggest that they were fertilized between November and January, and then males seemed to be died or move into other places. Females were examined to spawn from February to May. The stomach contents of tubesnout were dominated by copepoda smaller than ca. 1mm, Paracalanus, Oithona, Acartia, Oncaea and Harpacticoidae, accounting for 97% of total food items. The feeding habit of tubesnout did not vary by size. The fishes fed on Calanus, Euchaeta and decapoda larvae larger than ca. 3mm in March and April during the spawning season.

Coastal marine ecosystem plays important role of spawning and nursery grounds for fisheries resources. Yongil Bay is one of major coastal marine ecosystems, which is located in the southwestern East Sea of Korea. Species composition and abundance of marine organism in the Yongil Bay were investigated by season from March to November 2009. Gill net and pot fisheries were used for survey of pelagic and demersal species composition, and collected 106 species, 67 families, and 7 taxa of fisheries resources from the coastal ecosystem. Species were included 2 species in Ascidiacea, 2 species in Bivalvia, 6 in Cephalopoda, 22 in Crustacea, 5 in Echinodermata, 12 in Gastropoda, and 57 in Pisces. Diversity indices (Shannon index, H') showed seasonal variation with low value of 2.11 in winter, and high value of 2.63 in autumn. Main dominant species were Asterias amurensis, Pleuronectes yokohamae, Siphonalia spadicea fuscolineata, Trachurus japonicas, Sillago japonica, Conger myriaster, Volutharpa ampullaceal, Engraulis japonicus, Asterina pectinifera, and Portunus (Portunus) sanguinolentus that were occupied over 71.5% of total individuals, and 52.9% of wet weight. Seasonal variations of fisheries resources composition were discussed on correlationships with those of environmental factors in the coastal ecosystem of the Yongil Bay in Korea. Those results from this study will provide scientific data and information to develop the ecosystem-based coastal fisheries assessment and management system in Korea.

In this study we tried to develop a biological method for evaluating environment using the potter wasps as an indicator. Wasp species in family Eumenidae, were collected from 13 locations including agricultural area using nest trap. The wasps collected were classified and selected candidate species as an environmental evaluation indicator. Seven species were collected and the Anterhynchium flavomarginatum was the most dominant species. The number of the nest of potter wasps was 12.8/m both in the non-fertilizer and the non-pesticide areas and 7.2/m in the general agricultural areas. The number of nests was 13.4/m in the location where the Degree of Green Naturality (DGN) was high (4.28) and it was 1.2/m where the DGN was low (1.00), suggesting that the index of both richness and diversity tend to increase in locations with more nests. Based on these results, A. flavomarginatum, Orancistrocerus drewseni (Saussure), Isodontia nigellus and Chalicodoma sculpturalis were selected as indicator species for the evaluation of environment including agricultural ecosystem. And a standard for grading an environment (I to IV) was made based on the occurrence, the total number of nesting and the species diversity of potter wasps.
To investigate the vegetation structure of the mountain ridges ranging from Songchu to Dobong, this research set up 22 plots$(400m^2)$ as survey target areas. As a result of the analysis of woody plant cluster, it was classified as two groups-Quercus mongolica community and Quercus mongolica-Pinus densiflora community. Quercus mongolica was found as a mostly dominant woody plant species in the ridge areas from Songchu to Dobong, while Pinus densiflora, Quercus serrata and Quercus acutissima were mixed up partly in low altitudes. High negative correlations were shown between Quercus mongolica and Quercus serrata, Quercus serrata and Acer pseudosieboldianum, Pinus densiflora and Acer pseudosieboldianum, and relatively high positive correlations were found to exist between Quercus acutissima and Quercus serrata; Quercus mongolica and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Pinus rigid a and Rhododendron schlippenbachii; Sorbus alnifolia and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Pinus rigida and Pinus densiflora; Pinus densiflora and Robinia pseudoacacia; Acer pseudosieboldianum and Styrax obassia; Magnolia sieboldii and Symplocos chinensis. Species diversity index(H') by community at the surveyed areas stayed in the scope of $0.997\sim1.160$, which indexes showed nothing different from the vegetation structure of other national parks.
The study was carried out to offer the raw data on counterplan of restoration and conservation by systematical and objective analyzing the flora and herbaceous communities around Abeliophyllum distichum habitats. In the results of flora survey, as the site that the most taxa were showed was Yulji-ri, Geosan-gun III, there was surveyed as 114 ones; 48 families, 91 genera, 99 species and 15 varieties, and as Younjeong-ri, Jincheon-gun V was showed the fewest ones, there was appeared 54 ones; 28 families, 49 genera, 47 species and 7 varieties. The dominant species of herbaceous communities were verified Humulus japonicus${\cdot}$Artemisia princeps var. orientalis(Chujeom-ri, Goesan-gun I), Oplismenus undulatifolius(Songdeok-ri, Goesan-gun II and Maechon-ri, Yeongdong-eup IV), Carex siderosticta${\cdot}$Pueraria thunbergiana${\cdot}$Artemisia princeps var. orientalis(Yulji-ri, Geosan-gun III), Streptolirion cordifolium(Younjeong-ri, Jincheon-Eun V) and Sasa borealis(Junggye-ri, Buan-gun IV). In correlation analysis, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis${\cdot}$Carex siderosticta, Sasa borealis${\cdot}$Festuca ovina, Sasa borealis${\cdot}$Smilax china and Festuca ovina${\cdot}$Smilax china were showed the highest relativity. In similarity index analysis, as the site that was showed highest value was Yulji-ri, Geosan-gun III and Maechon-ri, Yeongdong-eup IV, there was turned up about some $27.27\%$. In the results of regression analysis between environmental factors and number of species, R-square of altitude and number of species was some $70.0\%$.
This study investigated the characteristics of fish communities in the streams flowing into the Han river in Seoul in May 2016 through April 2017. The investigated streams were Ui stream, Danghyeon stream, Cheonggye stream, Yangjae stream, Mokgam stream, Dorim stream, and Hongje stream, which were restored to their natural form. We collected 41 species of 10 families using skimming nets and cast nets from 21 points during the investigation period. There were 7 Korean endemic species, or 17.1% in collected species, such as Acheilognathus yamatsutae, Acheilognathus gracilis, Scrcocheilichthys nigripinnis morii, Squalidus japonicus coreanus, Zacco koreanus, Coreoperca herzi, and Odontobutis interruta. There were 5 (12.2%) exotic species: Cyprinus carpio (fancy type), Carassius auratus (goldfish), Carassius cuvieri, Lepomis macrochirus, and Micropterus salmoides. The dominant species were Zacco platypus, Carassius auratus, Acheilognathus lanceolatus, Acheilognathus gracilis, and Oryzias sinensis. The Yangjae stream showed more stable fish community than other streams as it showed higher species diversity, and evenness and richness indices. Regarding the fish tolerance guild according to water quality, there were 3 (7.3%) sensitive species, 16 (39.0%) intermediate species, and 22 (56.7%) tolerant species. Twelve (29.3%) were insectivore species, 23 (56.1%) were omnivore species, and 6 (14.6%) were carnivore species, indicating the dominating presence of omnivore fish species.
