There have existed for a number of years good practice guidelines for the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the field of wind engineering. As part of those guidelines, details are given for the size of flow domain that should be used around a building of height, H. For low-rise buildings, the domain sizes produced by following the guidelines are reasonable and produce results that are largely free from blockage effects. However, when high-rise or tall buildings are considered, the domain size based solely on the building height produces very large domains. A large domain, in most cases, leads to a large cell count, with many of the cells in the grid being used up in regions far from the building/wake region. This paper challenges this domain size guidance by looking at the effects of changing the domain size around a tall building. The RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used in a series of steady-state solutions where the only parameter varied is the domain size, with the mesh resolution in the building/wake region left unchanged. Comparisons between the velocity fields in the near-field of the building and pressure coefficients on the building are used to inform the assessment. The findings of the work for this case suggest that a domain of approximately 10% the volume of that suggested by the existing guidelines could be used with a loss in accuracy of less than 10%.
Effect of computational domain size in simulating of periodic obstacle flow has been investigated for the flow past tube banks. Reynolds number, defined by freestream velocity (U) and cylinder diameter (d), was fixed as 200, and center-to-center distance (P) as 1.5d. In-line square array was considered. Drag coefficient, lift coefficient and Strouhal number were calculated depending on domain size. Circular cylinders were implemented on a Cartesian grid system by using an immersed boundary method. Boundary condition is periodic in both streamwise and lateral directions. Previous studies in literature often use a square domain with a side length of P, which contains only one cylinder. However, this study reveals that size is improper. Especially, RMS values of flow-induced forces are most sensitive to the domain size.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the differentiated instruction in mathematics by a meta-analysis. Among the studies conducted for last twenty three years, the relevant 49 research articles were selected, 80 effect sizes were calculated for the cognitive domain and 70 effect sizes for the affective domain. Effect sizes were analyzed with school levels, student level, group organization method such as homogeneous vs. heterogeneous, class transfer and adjusting class sizes for each cognitive domain and affective domain. The results are as the followings: In the cognitive domain, the overall effect size of the differentiated instruction produced a medium effect(effect size=0.68, U3=75.17%). The differentiated instruction showed the highest effect size on elementary school and middle school, mid level students, heterogeneous group, class transfer and not adjusted class size. And in the affective domain, the overall effect size of the differentiated instruction produced a low effect(effect size=0.36, U3=65.36%). The differentiated instruction showed the highest effect size on elementary school, mid level students, and heterogeneous group. Thus the differentiated instruction was proved to be effective in mathematics classes.

Effect of computational domain size in simulating of periodic obstacle flow has been investigated for the flow past tube banks. Reynolds number, defined by freestream velocity ($U_{\infty}$) and cylinder diameter (d), was fixed as 200, and center-to-center distance (P) as 1.5d. In-line square array and staggered square array were considered. However, this study reveals that the domain size is improper. Especially, RMS values of flow-induced forces are most sensitive to the domain size.
It has been reported that the size and characteristics of ferroelectric domains which have an essential role on the ferroelectric properties depend on the grain size of ferrolectric ceramics. Therefore understanding the change of domain characteristics with grain size is so important to know the dependence of dielectric constant, dielectric loss and aging on the grain size. In this research, the equilibrim domain with is calculated as d={{{{ SQRT { { 64 pi sigma a} over {3C11Ss2 } } }}. This calculated value is nearly same to the measured value of BaTiO3 and Pb(Zr0.4Ti0.6)O3 ceramics 90$^{\circ}$domain wall width. The calculated 90$^{\circ}$domain wall enerygy in Pb(Zr0.4Ti0.6)O3 which is obtained through the model is approximately 2$\times$10-2J/$m^2$.
Blue phase shows several different reflection colors from the randomly oriented domains and crystal direction. Also there are variations in the size of domains. The domain size is dependent on the temperature gradient. With smaller cooling rate of temperature, the domain size was increased compared with rapid cooling. With injection of light of specific wavelength, we find that the diffraction patterns were occurred around the light spot in the cell of blue phase. It was supposed to be from the matching of the phase retardation and domain size. However, actually the diffraction pattern is reflecting the lattice structure in double twist of the blue phase. The lattice constant from the radius of diffraction patterns shows very similar one from the reflection spectrum, which indicates the internal lattice constant in double twist of the blues phase.
This paper sought to investigate pupil size variability, pupil size parameters in terms of time domain and frequency domain, the autonomic activity change induced by posture change, degree of sleepiness and cognitive task (math task). With a specially designed pupil image acquisition system in the dark room, these three kinds of experiments were performed to induce a dominant state of sympathetic or parasympathetic activation. Electrocardiogram and pupil size were measured in all the experiments. Based on three experiments, we calculated heart rate variability. In the pupil size analysis, we calculated the mean and standard deviation of pupil size (in time domain), and proposed several frequency bands that exhibit different autonomic activation between different sessions. The results indicate that in terms of heart rate variability, posture change exhibited significant differences but not between sleepiness level, or between cognitive task. Pupil sizes differed only during the postures. And we found some frequency bands that correlated with autonomic activation in each experiment. While heart rate variability reflects posture change that need cardiac control, pupil size variability reflects not only posture induced autonomic activation but sleepiness and cognitive load, which is processed in the brain, in time and frequency domain parameter.
Mobility Anchor Points are used for the mobility management in HMIPv6 networks. Currently a mobile node selects the MAP farthest away from itself as a new MAP among available candidates when it undertakes a macro handoff. With this technique, however, the traffic tends to be concentrated at a MAP with the largest domain size and the communication cost increases due to the distance between the mobile node and the MAP. In this work, we proposed a cost effective MAP selection scheme. When leaving the current MAP domain. the mobile node calculates the optimum MAP domain size to minimize the local mobility cost at the new MAP domain considering mobile node's velocity and packet transmission rate. The mobile node then selects a MAP domain of size close to the optimum domain size calculated among the candidate MAP domains. In this way, it is possible for the mobile node to select an optimal MAP adaptively taking the network and node states into account, thus reducing the communication cost.

This research evaluated the effect of two main sources on the results of the ocean regional circulation model (ORCMs) during downscaling and nesting the results from the coarse data. The two sources should be the domain size, and temporal and spatial resolution different between driving and driven data. The Big-Brother Experiment is applied to examine the impact of them on the results of the ORCMs separately. Within resolution of 3km grid point ORCMs applying in the Big-Brother Experiment framework, it showed that the simulation results of the ORCMs depend on the domain size and specially the spatial and temporal resolution of lateral boundary conditions (LBCs). The domain size can be selected at 9.5 times larger than the interest area, and the spatial resolution between driving data and driven model can be up to 3 of ratio resolution and updating frequency of the LBCs can be up to every 6 hours per day.

Semantic role labeling (SRL) is a task in natural-language processing with the aim of detecting predicates in the text, choosing their correct senses, identifying their associated arguments, and predicting the semantic roles of the arguments. Developing a high-performance SRL system for a domain requires manually annotated training data of large size in the same domain. However, such SRL training data of sufficient size is available only for a few domains. Constructing SRL training data for a new domain is very expensive. Therefore, domain adaptation in SRL can be regarded as an important problem. In this paper, we show that domain adaptation for SRL systems can achieve state-of-the-art performance when based on structural learning and exploiting a prior model approach. We provide experimental results with three different target domains showing that our method is effective even if training data of small size is available for the target domains. According to experimentations, our proposed method outperforms those of other research works by about 2% to 5% in F-score.
