A Study on Eco-efficiency in power plants using DEA Analysis (DEA 모형을 이용한 발전회사 환경효율성에 대한 연구)

  • This study aims to provide power generating plants with eco-efficiency information. To implement the purposes, of study, both DEA(Data, Envelopment Analysis) model and interview were incorporated in terms of methodologies. To analyze the managerial efficiency, total labor cost and number of employees were considered as input factors. CO2, NOx, and water also were considered as input factors to analyze eco-efficiency. Both annual total power product and annual total revenue were used as output factors. CRS(Constant Return to Scale) and VRS(Variable Return to) model were facilitated in this analysis. According to the findings, most of the power plants were evaluated as 'Efficient'' taking into consideration of average value, both 0.928 from CCR model and 0.969 from VRS model. 7 DMUs including DMU3 and DMU12 are efficient out of 35 DMUs relatively, other DMUs are inefficient. For results of inefficient output factors distribution, it was found that inefficiency for NOx was marked relatively higher than CO2. In order to improve the eco-efficiency in the power plants in the long term, the target amount of Co2 as well as NOx reduction needs to be properly proposed in consideration of particularity of power plants. In the long run, renewable energy, alternative fuels should be adapted to reduce the eco-inefficient.

Development of Microbubble Flotation Technique for the Production of High Grade Coal (Microbubble Flotation에 의한 고품위(高品位) 석탄생산(石炭生産) 기술(技術) 개발(開發))

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the possibility of obtaining high grade coal from fixed carbon 20.68% coal. Also, the mineralogical, physical/chemical and liberation characteristics was found with the aim of decrease in ash amount, during the pre-processing of clean coal technology. In this study, batch flotation and microbubble column flotation that was appropriate for the processing of fine particles was used with the variation in kinds and quantity of frother, collector and depressant. Also grinding time, air flow rate and feeding rates were examined. As a result of batch flotation, using pulp density 20%, collector DMU-101+dodecyl amine(100 mL/ton), frother pine oil (200 mL/ton), depressant sodium silicate(1 kg/ton), obtained the result of ash rejection 81.55% and combustible recovery 70.23%. In result of microbubble column flotation, the result was ash rejection 83.85% and combustible recovery 70.42% under the condition of pulp density 5%, grinding time 5 min. collector DMU-101+DDA(100 mL/ton), frother AF65(5.4 L/ton), depressant SMP(3.5 kg/ton), wash water(360 mL/min.) and air flow rate(1,197 mL/min.).

An Analysis of Forwarding Companies' Efficiency handling Overseas Construction Project Logistics using DEA (DEA분석을 활용한 건설프로젝트 화물포워딩 업체의 효율성 분석)

  • Although many logistics companies are interested in project logistics, the existing research has been limited to the growth potential of project logistics market and the high barrier and importance of project logistics. This study analyzes using DEA the operational efficiency of forwarding companies registered in major overseas construction EPC companies and performing logistics services for overseas plant construction projects. For efficiency analysis, Super-SBM analysis and Malmquist analysis are used among DEA analysis techniques. As a result of the Super-SBM analysis, DMU 5 ranked first at 1.807. DMU 5 is more efficient than the other large corporations because it has the stable supply of its parent company H and the smallest input and output variables among the large corporations. As a result of Malmquist analysis, TCI, which is a technological development, showed a fluctuation while TECI showed a relatively stable variation. In addition, there is a difference in scale between major companies and small and medium sized companies. So, it is necessary to identify the efficiency improvement strategy for each group and apply it to the practical work.

An Analysis of Efficiency in Major University Hospitals in Domestically Capital Area Through DEA Analysis (DEA분석을 통한 국내 수도권 주요 대학병원의 효율성 분석)

  • This study analyzed efficiency by utilizing DEA analytical technique centering on materials for 2009 of 20 major university hospitals in capital area. Input variables were utilized professor & full-time doctor, resident, nurse & number of bed hospitals. Output variables were analyzed by dividing number of annual outpatients & number of annual inpatients, and annually total outpatient profit & inpatient profit into a model of the standard for number of patients and the standard for medical profit. DEA analysis was elicited efficiency score by applying CCR, BCC, BFG, scale profit, and SE model. Through t-test after eliciting efficiency score, the implications were suggested by comparing efficiency between DMU in Seoul and DMU in capital area, by comparing between high-class general hospitals and general hospitals, and by comparing between high-class general hospitals in Seoul and 5 big hospitals. As a result of analysis, the major university hospitals in capital area showed high efficiency as a whole close to "1," but indicated low efficiency relatively in CCR field. Thus, the expansion in scale within capital area was indicated to reach the limit. Second, in a model of analyzing the standard for number of patients, the medical institutions, which are being operated efficiently, were indicated to be 10 DMUs. In the standard for medical profit, 12 DMUs were analyzed to be operated efficiently. Third, the efficiency in general hospital was higher than high-class general hospital. Thus, the efficiency of operation was indicated to be more important than scale. Also, large high-class hospitals(big 5) where are located in downtown Seoul showed the higher efficiency than other general high-class general hospitals, but were indicating very low efficiency in some DMUs. Fourth, as a result of generalizing and evaluating the number of patients and the medical profit, the efficient DMU was indicated to be more when analyzing on the basis of medical profit than the standard for number of patients. Thus, major university hospitals in capital area were indicated to make more effort for section in medical profit. Based on the analytical results of efficiency, a strategy for reinforcing efficiency in inefficient DMU was indicated to be needed a strategy of creating customers for promoting number of patients and a strategy for making operation efficient for increasing profitability.

  • Due to the recent global recession, the car industry demand levels have plummeted which led to a crisis in the automotive parts industry for the first time in history. Since the fourth quarter of 2008, the automotive parts manufacturers in America have faced a record loss and those in Japan and Europe who also had a strong track record are facing a weak economy. In addition, the domestic automotive parts industry is also affected by the global economic crisis. This research is that the relative efficiency analysis utilizing the DEA has done on the object of 25 small and medium-sized automotive parts manufacturers publicly listed, As the efficiency analysis result 6 of 25 manufacturers are efficient in CCR model and 12 manufactures have shown efficiency in BCC model, the efficiency analysis in consideration of the manufacturer size. The manufacturers with efficiency 1 in 25 manufacturers are DMU 1, 5, 7, 10, 18, 24 and the relatively benchmarking objects in other manufactures are DMU 1, 10, 24, Based on the results of this research, a direction to the domestic automotive parts manufacturers as well as a significant information will be provided in managing the companies in the future by the improvement of management efficiency through the practical efficiency analysis.

Flotation for Improving Grade of Domestic Fine Coal (국내산(國內産) 미립(微粒) 석탄(石炭)의 품위향상(品位向上)을 위한 부유선별(浮遊選別) 연구(硏究))

Also, the mineralogical, physical/chemical and liberation characteristics are to be identified to decrease in ash amount, during the pre-processing of clean coal technology. In this study, batch flotation and CPT column flotation proper for the processing of fine particles were used with the variation in kinds and quantity of frother, collector and depressant. Also air flow rate and feeding rates were examined. As a result of batch flotation using 20% of pulp density DMU 101 collector(100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(300 mL/ton), sodium metaphosphate depressant (1 kg/ton), 67.57% of ash rejection and 70.90% of combustible recovery were obtained. The result of CPT column flotation was 85.59% of ash rejection and 88.97% of combustible recovery under the conditions of 5% of pulp density, DMU-101 collector (100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(10 L/ton), SMP depressant(1 kg/ton), wash water(100 mL/min.) and air flow rate(1,200 mL/min.).

  • In this paper, the academic research on the value chain and the supply chain of offshore business are conducted for the investigation of the offshore business comprehensive configuration. Then, the assembly and ergonomic simulation was conducted for the purpose of advanced validation of offshore project.. With respect to the simulation analysis, the assembly simulation model(w.r.t. drill ship) and the ergonomic simulation model(w.r.t. FPSO) are constructed. Through the assembly simulation of drillship, the production processes could be validated in terms of availability. Also, the problem of topside design of FPSO was found by ergonomic simulation.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA), a non-parametric productivity analysis tool, has become an accepted approach for assessing efficiency in a wide range of fields. Despite of its extensive applications and merits, some features of DEA remain bothersome. DEA offers no guideline about to which direction relatively inefficient DMUs improve since a reference set of an inefficient DMU, several efficient DMUs, hardly provides a stepwise path for improving the efficiency of the inefficient DMU. In this paper, we aim to show that DEA can be used to evaluate the efficiency of life insurance companies while overcoming its limitation with the aids of machine learning methods.

Productivity Analysis in Fisheries Processed Wholesale Products Using Malmquist Productivity Index (맘퀴스트 생산성지수를 이용한 수산물 가공식품 도매업의 생산성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • This paper estimates changes in the total factor productivity and technical efficiency change index and the technical change index using the Malmquist productivity index (MPI) in fishery-processed wholesale products over the time period spanning 2006-2008. The model considers a number of employees and operating costs as input factors, and sales and EBIT (earnings before tax and interest) as output factors. The results demonstrate that, between 2006 and 2007, there has generally been no technical progress, although a small improvement in productivity was detected in the sales scale of 10 billion won-50 billion won. Between 2007 and 2008, there was technical progress in the majority of DMU, except within the range of 20 million won-10 billion won. Wilcoxon's rank-sum test, however, demonstrates no statistically significant differences in productivity between the two periods.
