  • Low viscosity LCs have been developed for fast response time improvement of the TFT-LCD Monitors based on TN mode. This low viscosity characteristic s cause the pretilt angle to be changed and the uniformity to degrade. We have studied on the pretilt angle effect by the various components used for low viscosity LCs. We prepared the panels by using these various components and measured pretilt angle for this research. As a result of this research, we have found out that each low viscosity component has the different pretilt angle level and uniformity. For good display quality, it is important to keep the stable pretilt angle. The low viscosity LCs with this stable pretilt angle make it possible to prepare the high performance TFT-LCD Monitor with both fast response time characteristics and good display quality

  • The contour of mandibular angle is important for facial esthetics in the oriental population, because the wide and square face is thought to have had an unhappy life. A prominent mandibular angle produces a characteristics quardrangle, coase, and muscular appearance. So, uni- or bi-lateral mandibular angle reduction is usually performed. However, there is little guideline for bi-lateral angle reduction. So, this study was to investigate the pattern of Korean mandibular angle for bi-lateral mandibular angle reduction as guideline. This study was included 66 adult men and women over 19 years old who are having the normal mandibular angle. We measured the posterior border, angle, and inferior border of mandible using cephalometric view. The results of study was as followed : 1. The ratio of posterior mandible was 96.6, 97.3% in male, and 103.0, 106.0% in female. 2. The ratio of mandibular angle(R1-Go/R1-R2) was 120.2% in male, and 117.3% in female. 3. The ratio of inferior mandible(D5, 6, 7, E, F, G/D4) was 97.3, 90.9, 79.5, 65.2, 57.8, 46.9% in male, and 98.5, 91.2, 80.5, 67.6, 59.1, 50.2% in female. The results of this study should be useful to decide accurate amount of reduction.

  • We developed new WV-TN panel which has 170/170 viewing angle and 8ms response time. This viewing characteristics almost catch up with those of VA. To extend the viewing angle we optimized the cell design and LC parameters. This new technology strongly increase the demand of TN monitors especially for the monitor market larger than 19"

  • This study consists of an experimental investigation of the reduction of the second-order roll motion of a semi-submersible platform in head sea conditions by adding hull damping. The second-order heave drift force and roll drift moment are known to be the main triggers that induce the list angle (Hong et al., 2010). Hong et al. (2013) used numerical calculations to show the possibility of reducing the list angle by changing the pontoon shape and adding a damping device on the hull. One of their findings was that the reduction in the list angle due to the increase in pontoon surface damping was significant. A series of model tests were carried out with a 1:50 scaled model of semi-submersible at the KRISO wave basin. The experiments indicated that adding damping on the hull surface effectively suppressed the list angle.

  • The study was designed to examinate the discrimination rate of 4 antero-posterior cephalometric measurements from Angle's malocclusion groups. The material was 246 cephalometric radiographs taken from 42 Normal occlusions, 83 Class I malocclusions, 64Class II Division I malocclusions, 57Class III malocclusions. ANB angle, APDI, AB/OP angle, and Wits appraisal as measurements of antero-posterior skeletal relationship were measured on the cephalometric radiographs and statistically analyzed by the Canonical Discriminant Function. The results of this study were as follows: 1. ANB angle, APDI, AB/OP angle, and Wits appraisal were clinically useful measurements for the evaluation of the antero-posterior skeletal relationship. 2. The rates that discriminate actual malocclusion groups were $77.45\%$ in Wits appraisal, $74.02\%$ in AB/OP angle, $71.08\%$ in ANB angle, and $70.59\%$ in APDI. 3. The discrimination rate of actual Class III malocclusion show above $93\%$, but actual Class I and Class II division I malocclusions were relatively low.

  • Shear strength parameters obtained from filed survey are important factors in the analysis of slope stability. In this study, sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of input parameters on the analysis of slope stability. The input parameters selected for sensitivity analysis were slope angle, cohesion, and friction angle. Monte-Carlo Simulation method was used for calculating input parameters and the factor of safety was computed by means of limit equilibrium method. A rock slope, which has failed in the field, was used for the sensitivity analysis in the analysis of slope stability. The result of analysis shows that the factor of safety of the rock slope was a little low. From partial correlation coefficient(PPC) of input parameters determined from the sensitivity analysis, slope stability was dependant on cohesion and slope angle. The effect of friction angle was lower than that of cohesion and slope angle on slope stability.

  • In the viewing-angle image control (VIC) technology, one pixel is made up of a quad pixel structure which is consisting of R, G, B, and electrically control briefringence (ECB) sub-pixels. Two types of test stimuli were used; text & complex image respectively. The limitations of those methods were found from the experiment. From the results the advanced GC technology was proposed.

  • Photo-alignment layer which contains cinnamate is difficult to generate pretilt angle of liquid crystals. In order to enhance pretilt angle, blending poly (amic acid) between containing fluorine poly (amic acid) and 1,2,3,4-cyclobutanetetracaroxylic dianhydride (CBDA) / 3,5-diaminobenzyl alcohol (DBA) were used. For photoreaction, cinnamate was conjugated by interfacial reaction with blending polyimide.

  • A pulse measurement by tonometry provides useful information for diagnosis, including not only blood pressure and heart rate but also parameters for estimating a condition of the cardiovascular system. Currently, various pulse measurement devices based on the tonometry have been developed. A reliability of these devices is determined by a positioning technic between the sensor and the blood vessel and a controlling technique of the pressurization level. An angle of the sensor for the pulse measurement seems to be highly related with a measured signal, however, the objective studies for this issue have been not published. In this paper, the variation of the pulse signals by tonometry direction was experimentally assessed according to the angle of the sensor. In order for guaranteeing the repeatability of the experiment, we used a pulse generator device, which can generate human pulse signal by using silicon tube and fluid pump, and developed a structure for precise adjustment of the angle and the pressurization level of the sensor. The angle of the sensor was acquired by an inclinometer, which was attached at the opposite side of the sensor. As results, a coefficient of variation (CV) of a maximum amplitude (MA) of the pulse wave was largely increased over the angle range of $-9{\sim}9^{\circ}$. Furthermore, the changes of the pulse shape showed different aspects according to the sign of the angle tilted along the blood vessel. It is expected that the results of this study can be helpful for developing more precise pulse measurement devices based on the tonometry and applying in clinic.

  • In this study, the effect of slope length and angle at the entrance to fishing pots on the size of captured shrimp was examined to determine the optimal design of pots for use in Hokkaido, Japan. The purpose of the current study was to optimize the design of shrimp pots to allow greater control over the size of captured individuals for the purposes of shrimp resource management. Tank experiments were conducted to determine the optimal slope length and slope angle by analyzing the sizes of shrimp entering 10 model pots with combinations of five different slope lengths on slope angle of current shrimp pot, and five different angles on slope length of current shrimp pot. The results showed that, as the slope length of the pot increased, the size of individuals which entered the pot increased. In addition, as the slope angle was elevated in each of the five different slope angle treatments, the size of individuals entering was also increased.
