This letter deals with non-pilot-aided symbol timing estimation methods in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. To do this, OFDM system uses a frequency diversity scheme over two consecutive data symbols. Our approach can be viewed as an expansion of Schmidl's and Minn's correlation methods. Using the OFDM signal equipped with frequency diversity, however, symbol timing is accurately estimated without additional training symbol and a second-order diversity gain is achieved.

This study was carried out in order to analyze the succession characteristics of the slope of expressways and the results of analysis by collecting and analyzing various literatures and data from 2011 to 2012 and surveying 75 expressway slope, as follows : The construction methods applied to planting the slope of an expressway can be classified into 4 types including 3 Climber planting methods, 8 Vegetation thick-layer spray work methods, 4 Seed spray work methods, and 4 Stabilization work methods. The factors which affect the cover degree of the slope of an expressway were found to be development years, gradient, length, and azimuth. Like surrounding forest areas, the expressway slope was analyzed to begin the plant succession 20, 30, and 40 years after development, and plant succession was developed in diversity in a mixed stand forest according to surrounding forest floors. Species diversity, maximum species diversity, and the evenness of slope facing north were analyzed to be high comparing to those facing east, west, and south according to azimuth of slope. Species diversity, maximum species diversity, evenness of slope, and the plant succession of surroundings were analyzed to be high when the gradient of the slope was less than $40^{\circ}$. The dominant species which success on the slope of an expressway and its surrounding forest area included Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens, Zoysia japonica, Pinus thunbergii Parl, Rubus crataegifolius, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, Amorpha fruticosa, Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, and Oenothera biennis.

In this paper, the phase diverisity in a direct-conversion receiver for a UHF RFID reader is analyzed and the optimal I/Q signal combining methods is presented with respect to tag modulation. At first, fading characteristics of a single channel receiver is shown to prove the importance of phase diversity due to the phase relationship between the backscattered signal and the local oscillator. And the optimal signal combining methods are presented in order to overcome the signal power reduction due to phase diversity. In case of ASK, the power combining method is presented for the optimal I/Q combining. And the arctangent and principal component combining methods using covariance matrix of I and Q channels are presented for the optimal I/Q combining in case of PSK. In order to analyze the performance of suggested methods, the selection diversity and the optimal combining methods are compared. According to analysis and simulation results, the optimal combining methods have a maximum 3 dB SNR enhancement than selection diversity.

In space diversity combining, conventional methods such as maximal ratio combining (MRC), equal gain combining (EGC) and selection combining (SC) are commonly used to improve the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) provided that the channel is perfectly estimated at the receiver. However, in practice, channel estimation is often imperfect and this indeed deteriorates the system performance. In this paper, diversity combining techniques based on two evolutionary algorithms, namely genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are proposed and compared. Numerical results indicate that the proposed methods outperform the conventional MRC, EGC and SC methods when the channel estimation is imperfect while it shows similar performance as that of MRC when the channel is perfectly estimated.

This study proposes a new diversity algorithm to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. In the wireless channel, if fading occurs due to the multipaths, the performance of the system is apparently reduced. One of the methods to reduce fadings like this is the diversity method, and this study aims to improve the performance of the system by proposing a new diversity algorithm. This study applied rake receiver, and normalized the wireless channel from the Nakagami fading channel to the Rayleigh fading channel, which set the fading index as 1, because of the multipaths. It applied QPSK and OQPSK modulation methods and applied the convolutional codes, where the code rate is 1/2 and 1/3 and the constraint length is 9, and the turbo code where the constraint length is 4. Under these conditions, this study compared and analyzed the average error probability of direct spread multiple access system. The diversity algorithm proposed in this paper could be applied to the mobile communication and other wireless multimedia communications that require high quality and high reliability.
The management of data on biological diversity is presently complex and confusing. This study was initiated to construct a database so that such data could be stored in a data management, and analysis instrument to correct the problems inherent in the current incoherent storage methods. MySQL was used in DBMS(DataBase Management System), and the program was basically produced using Java technology Also, the program was developed so people could adapt to the requirements that are changing every minute. We hope this was accomplished by modifying easily and quickly the advanced programming technology and patterns. To this end, an effective and flexible database schema was devised to store and analyze diversity databases. Even users with no knowledge of databases should be able to access this management instrument and easily manage the database through the World Wide Web. On a basis of databases stored in this manner, it could become routinely used for various databases using this analysis instrument supplied on the World Wide Web. Supplying the derived results by using a simple table and making results visible using simple charts, researchers could easily adapt these methods to various data analyses. As the diversity data was stored in a database, not in a general file, this study makes the precise, error-free and high -quality storage in a consistent manner. The methods proposed here should also minimize the errors that might appear in each data search, data movement, or data conversion by supplying management instrumentation on the Web. Also, this study was to deduce the various results to the level we required and execute the comparative analysis without the lengthy time necessary to supply the analytical instrument with similar results as provided by various other methods of analysis. The results of this research may be summerized as follows: 1)This study suggests methods of storage by giving consistency to diversity data. 2)This study prepared a suggested foundation for comparative analysis of various data. 3)It may suggest further research, which could lead to more and better standardization of diversity data and to better methods for predicting changes in species diversity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether various saliva collection methods affect the observed salivary microbiome and whether microbiomes of stimulated and unstimulated saliva and plaque differ in richness and diversity. Methods: Seven sampling methods for unstimulated saliva, stimulated saliva, and plaque samples were applied to six orally and systemically healthy participants. Bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA genes of 10 major oral bacterial species, namely, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescens, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus sobrinus, and Lactobacillus casei, were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. We comprehensively examined the dependence of the amount of bacterial ribosomal DNA (rDNA), bacterial-community composition, and relative abundance of each species on sample collection methods. Results: There were significant differences in the bacterial rDNA copy number depending on the collection method in three species: F. nucleatum, P. nigrescens, and S. mitis. The species with the highest richness was S. mitis, with the range from 89.31% to 100.00%, followed by F. nucleatum, P. nigrescens, T. denticola, T. forsythia, and P. intermedia, and the sum of the proportions of the remaining five species was less than 1%. The species with the lowest observed richness was P. gingivalis (<0.1%). The Shannon diversity index was the highest in unstimulated saliva collected with a funnel (4.449). The Shannon diversity index was higher in plaque samples (3.623) than in unstimulated (3.171) and stimulated (3.129) saliva and in mouthwash saliva samples (2.061). Conclusions: The oral microbial profile of saliva samples can be affected by sample collection methods, and saliva differs from plaque in the microbiome. An easy and rapid technique for saliva collection is desirable; however, observed microbial-community composition may more accurately reflect the actual microbiome when unstimulated saliva is assayed.
Purpose: The results of prior studies investigating main effects between diversity and team performance are neither clear nor consistent. This study seeks to provide more evidence for a direct link between these two. The present study also attempts to close a gap in the literature by examining conflict as a moderator of the relationship between diversity and team performance. Methods: As suggested by Williams and O'Reilly(1998), this study examines the effects of perception levels of three specific types of diversity (social category diversity, value diversity, and informational diversity) and two contextual moderators (task conflict and relationship conflict) on team performance. Results: The results show that perception levels of all three types of diversity are significantly related to team performance in the current sample of 313. Results also indicate that relationship conflict significantly interacted with the perception levels of diversity in relating to team performance. Results for task conflict, however, fails to support the hypothesis. Conclusion: The results suggest that the effects of diversity on team functioning depend on how diversity is perceived by team members, rather than actual diversity seen by team members. Theoretical and practical implications are reviewed, and limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are addressed.
The paper provides an appreciation and critical commentary on Stephen Keck's fictional product, the SEABOT. It examines the problems of regional definition, given Southeast Asia's diversity, and provides a positive gloss on this diversity. It also considers certain conceptual and methodological issues raised by SEABOT, and the advantages and disadvantages of this online platform.
Recently, various researches on medical image generation have been suggested, and it becomes crucial to accurately evaluate the quality and diversity of the generated medical images. For this purpose, the expert's visual turing test, feature distribution visualization, and quantitative evaluation through IS and FID are evaluated. However, there are few methods for quantitatively evaluating medical images in terms of fidelity and diversity. In this paper, images are generated by learning a chest CT dataset of non-small cell lung cancer patients through DCGAN and PGGAN generative models, and the performance of the two generative models are evaluated in terms of fidelity and diversity. The performance is quantitatively evaluated through IS and FID, which are one-dimensional score-based evaluation methods, and Precision and Recall, Improved Precision and Recall, which are two-dimensional score-based evaluation methods, and the characteristics and limitations of each evaluation method are also analyzed in medical imaging.
