2001년 5월과 6월 서태평양에서의 Thermosalinograph 관측 (Thermosalinograph Measurements in the Western Pacific Ocean in May and June, 2001)

  • We have analyzed sea surface temperature and salinity data collected in the western Pacific Ocean by using an automated Thermosalinograph (TSG) installed on the RV Onnuri during May - June of 2001. The TSG data exhibit characteristics of water masses distributed in the near surface layer of the cruise area very well. Especially, they reveal the diurnal surface temperature cycle and the effect of rainfall on temperature and salinity in the equatorial region, showing the effectiveness of the use of TSG. Problems to be improved for the better TSG operation are the method of water sampling and calibration of TSG sensors. Installation of a pressure gauge in the TSG system and periodical sensor calibration are strongly recommended to ensure reliability of data.

난지도를 중심으로 한 대기 중 BTEX 성분의 농도분포 특성에 대한 연구 (Studies of Ambient BTEX Distribution Characteristics in the Nan-Ji-Do Landfill Site in Seoul)

  • In this study, the concentrations of major anthropogenic volatile organic compounds(VOCs) which include benzene, toluene, m, p-xylene, o-xylene, and ethylbenzene were measured at the Nan-ji-do landfill site during the spring and fall season of 2000. the temporal distribution characteristics of these VOCs were investigated over varying time scale. According to our study, the mean concentration of those species were computed to be 1.65$\pm$2.68(benzene), 9.62$\pm$9.32(toluene), 1.84$\pm$2.90(m, p-xylene), 0.83$\pm$1.43(o-xylene), and 1.17$\pm$1.21 ppb(ethylbenzene). The VOCs levels in the study area are not distinctively higher than the level typically found in urban area that can be subject to the influence of various anthropogenic source processes. Inspection of their temporal trends exhibited various patterns for the diurnal(and seasonal) cycle. Although each species showed distinctive patterns in temporal distribution trends, we were able to find the strong correlations among most concurrently measured VOCs except for benzene.

한반도 부근의 강수 및 대기오염의 주기성

  • 본 연구에서는 2005~2007년 여름철(JJAS; 6~9월) 기간에 한반도 부근의 위성관측(TRMM) 및 지상관측(AWS) 강수량 그리고 대기오염 관측 자료를 이용하여 이들의 공간적 분포와 일주기 특성을 분석하였다. 이 기간에 AWS 평균 강수량은 전국적으로 약 5 mm/day 이었고, 제주도, 중부 내륙, 그리고 영 호남 경계 지역에서 9 mm/day 이상으로 많았다. PM10 (${\mu}g/m^3$) 미세먼지의 농도는 $27{\sim}57\;{\mu}g/m^3$ 이었고, 특히 수도권과 경남의 산업지역에서 $45\;{\mu}g/m^3$ 이상으로 높았다. 위성관측과 지상관측 강수량간의 상관(~0.8)은 매우 유의적이었다. AWS는 지점 관측이고 TRMM 관측은 면적평균임을 고려할 때, 위의 상관값은 상당히 높은 것으로 판단된다. 일주기 분석에서 미세먼지는 수도권 지역에서 오전에, 그리고 영남 지역에서는 오후 늦게 많이 발생하였다. AWS 강수량은 영동 및 경북 지역에서 이른 오전(2~8시)에, 이 지역 외에서는 오후 늦게(16~22시) 주로 발생하였다. 중부 지방의 강수 주기는 전선이 오후 3시부터 다음날 오전 4시까지 서해안에서 동해안으로 동진하는 형태를 잘 반영하였다.

The Phenotype of the Soybean Disease-Lesion Mimic (dlm) Mutant is Light-Dependent and Associated with Chloroplast Function

  • The dlm (disease lesion mimic) mutant of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr) shows the similar lesion of a soybean disease caused by a fungus, Corynespora cassilcola. The lesion was examined at cellular and molecular level. Trypan blue staining result indicated that cell death was detectable in the entire region of leaves excluding veins when the lesions had already been developed. We found that the mesophyll cells of palisade layer in the dim mutant appeared to be wider apart from each other. The chloroplasts of the dim mutant cells contained bigger starch granules than those in normal plants. We also found that the lesion development of dlm plant was light-dependent and the starch degradation during the dark period of diurnal cycle was impaired in the mutant. Three soybean pathogenesis-related genes, PR-1a, PR-4, and PR-10, were examined for their expression patterns during the development of disease lesion mimic. The expression of all three genes was up-regulated to some extent upon the appearance of the disease lesion mimic. Although the exact function of DLM protein remains elusive, our data would provide some insight into mechanism underling the cell death associated with the dim mutation.

Numerical simulations of mountain winds in an alpine valley

  • The meteorological model WRF is used to investigate the wind circulation in Valle Camonica, Italy, an alpine valley that includes a large subalpine lake. The aim was to obtain the information necessary to evaluate the wind potential of this area and, from a methodological point of view, to suggest how numerical modeling can be used to locate the most interesting spots for wind exploitation. Two simulations are carried out in order to analyze typical scenarios occurring in the valley. In the first one, the diurnal cycle of thermally-induced winds generated by the heating-cooling of the mountain range encircling the valley is analyzed. The results show that the mountain slopes strongly affect the low-level winds during both daytime and nighttime, and that the correct setting of the lake temperature improves the quality of the meteorological fields provided by WRF significantly. The second simulation deals with an event of strong downslope winds caused by the passage of a cold front. Comparisons between simulated and measured wind speed, direction and air temperature are also shown.

금강 하구역에서 영양염류, 엽록소, 부유물질과 염분변화에 대한 500일간의 연속관측 (500-days Continuous Observation of Nutrients, Chlorophyll Suspended Solid and Salinity in the Keum Estuary, Korea)

  • 군산 하구역에서 해양학적 환경의 시간적 변화양상을 이해하고 하구언 축조 이후 갑문의 조작에 의한 환경의 변화를 알아보기 위하여 1995년 6월부터 1996년 9월까지 약 500일간 매일 관측을 하였다. 조사대상 항목은 해양환경의 일반적인 조사대상인 영양염, 엽록소, 부유현탁물질 그리고 염분이었으며, 이들 자료를 설명하기 위하여 일차적으로 조석자료를 이용하였고, 또한 보조자료로서 기온, 강우량, 풍속등 기상 자료와 금강 하구언의 담수 방출량과 같은 하구언의 갑문조작 효과도 그 관련성을 조사하였다. 조석 위상에 따른 변화를 조사하기 위하여 1996년 4월에 26시간, 7월에 19시간에 걸쳐 시간별로 연속조사를 병행하였다. 시간별 조사에서 염분의 변화양상은 조위에 비례관계를 보였으며, 부유현탁물질과 엽록소는 창 낙조 사이에서 높은 농도를 보였다. 영양염류는 염분에 반비례하는 경향을 보였다. 500일 연속 관측에서 염분은 당수 방출량과 반비례하며, 엽록소는 봄철에 높은 농도를 보였다. 각 영양염류는 변화양상이 유사하였고, 염분과는 반비례 관계를 나타내었다. 부유현탁물질은 15일 주기인 조석 주기(neap-spring tide cycle)와 유사한 양상을 보였으며, 홍수기에는 담수 방출량에 의하여 주로 결정되었다. 금강 하구언의 갑문을 조작하기 이전과 비교해 볼 때 담수의 방출은 우기에 집중되고 있으며, 조류의 감소, 부유물질의 감소, 영양염류와 엽록소의 증가를 보였다.

정상 성인의 혈청 철과 TIBC 및 Ferritin의 Circadian Rhythm에 대한 연구 (A Study on Serum Ferrum, TIBC, and Ferritin's Circadian Rhythm in Normal Adults)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of serum ferrum, TIBC and ferritin's circadian rhythm in normal adults and to prepare a standard to determine the examination material extraction time. Method: Nine women and ten men made up the convenience sample for this study they were from the staff of D university hospital and students in D medical School located in K city who met the qualifications for inclusion in the sample. The value of serum ferrum, TIBC and circadian rhythm were calculated as follows : First. each variable's amplitude. the acrophase and average were measured for a 24 hour cycle using the cosinor method, and then each person's rhythm was analyzed. Results: There were significant serum iron circadian rhythm for both men and women (p<.05). For the men, mesor was $105.91{\mu}g/dl$. amplitude was $29.52{\mu}g/dl$, and the acrophase was 9.76 hour. For the women, mesor was $108.17{\mu}g/dl$, amplitude was $28.09{\mu}g/dl$, and the acrophase was 11.42 hour The rhythm change of TIBC was only significant for the women (p<.05), mesor was 383.39mg/dl, amplitude was 60.29mg/dl. and the acrophase was 14.93hour. As for the circadian rhythm of the ferritin, there are no diurnal variation in either sex, men were between 134.0ng/ml and 137.4ng/ml, and women, between 29.1ng/ml and 30.1ng/ml. Conclusion: To help diagnose the boundary line between normal or deficiency in iron, measurement should be carried out at a fixed time in the morning and evening, or a more proper time would be in the afternoon at the time when the width of amplitude is the least.

최신토지피복자료를 이용한 대구시의 열환경 수치모의 (Application of the Latest Land Use Data for Numerical Simulation of Urban Thermal Environment in the Daegu)

  • The land surface precesses is very important to predict urban meteorological conditions. Thus, the latest land use data set to reflect the rapid progress in urbanization was applied to simulate urban thermal environment in Daegu. Because use of the U.S geological Survey (USGS) 25-category data, currently in the fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University-National Center for Atmospheric Research Mesoscale Model (MM5), does not accurately described the heterogeneity of urban surface, we replaced the land use data in USGS with the latest land-use data of the Korea Ministry of Environment over Daegu. The single urban category in existing 24-category U.S. Geological survey land cover classification used in MM5 was divided into 5 classes to account for heterogeneity of urban land cover. The new land cover classification (MC-LULC) improved the capability of MM5 to simulate the daytime part of the diurnal temperature cycle in the urban area. The 'MC-LULC' simulation produced the observed temperature field reasonably well, including spatial characteristics. The warm cores in western Daegu is characterized by an industrial area.

제주지역 지표 오존 농도의 시.공간적 분포 특성 (The Characteristics of Temporal and Spatial Distribution of Surface Ozone Concentration in Jeju Island)

  • This study has been performed to clarify the characteristics of temporal and spatial distribution of surface ozone concentration over Jeju Island, one of the cleanest areas in Korea with low emissions of air pollutants. Ozone data are monitored at four sites in Jeju Island. These monitoring sites are located at two urban area(referred to Ido and Donghong), coastal area(Gosan site) and forest site(Chuna site). Ozone data has been routinely collected at these sites for the late four years. The patterns of seasonal cycle of ozone concentrations at all stations show the bimodal with the peaks on spring and autumn and a significant summer minimum. However, the patterns of diurnal variations at rural station, i.e., Gosan and Chuna sites are considerably different to those at urban stations such as Ido and Donghong sites. The patterns of $\DeltaO_3$ variations are very similar with those of monthly mean ozone concentrations and $\DeltaO_3$ values are exceeded 30 ppb, at urban stations. This may be that urban stations are more influenced by local photochemical reactions rather than rural stations. In order to assess the potential roles of meteorological parameters on ozone formation, the meteorological parameters, such as radiation, temperature, and wind are monitored together with ozone concentrations at all stations. The relationships of meteorological parameters to the corresponding ozone concentration are found to be insignificant in Jeju Island. However, at Gosan and Donghong stations, when the sea breeze blew toward the station, the ozone concentration is considerably increased.

마이크로웨이브 라디오미터에서 관측된 가강수량 및 구름물량 특성 분석 (Characteristics of Precipitable Water Vapor and Liquid Water Path by Microwave Radiometer)

  • 가강수량과 구름물량의 시공간적 분포와 특성을 분석하기 위해 청주, 합천, 대관령에서 마이크로웨이브 라디오미터의 관측을 수행하였다. 각 지역에서 관측된 가강수량을 검증하기 위해 고층자료에서 산출된 가강수량과 비교하였으며 그 결과 상관계수가 0.8 이상으로 좋은 상관도를 보인다. 청주, 합천, 대관령 지역의 가강수량의 계절적인 변동과 일변화는 유사하게 나타났으며 일반적으로 1000 LST부터 증가하기 시작하여 1900 LST에 극대 값을 보인다. 반면에 구름물량은 지역적으로 계절적인 차이를 보인다. 이는 평지에 위치한 청주, 소백산맥으로 인한 편서풍 구름 차폐가 발생하기 쉬운 합천, 안개 및 구름이 잦은 대관령(834 m 해발고도) 등 각기 다른 지형 및 지리적 영향에 기인한 것으로 사료된다.
