  • This paper proposes the methods to construct the tree-structured database and analyze the distribution system network. In order to cope with an extensive amount of data and the frequent breaker switching operations in distribution systems, the database for system configuration is constructed using binary trees. Once the tree-structured database has been built, the system tracing of distribution network can be rapidly performed. This remarkably enhances the efficiency of data search and easily adapts to system changes due to switching operations. The computation method of fast power flow using tree search strategies is presented. The methods in the paper may be available in the field of distribution system operation.

  • Purpose - This study involves the following questions: "Does internalization theory fully explain reality?" and "Which additional factors may add extra value to the theory?" To answer these, this study divides market entry mode into two steps, initial and subsequent and then, focuses on the subsequent distribution step; that is, the post-entry strategy after initial entry. In addition, this study relies on finding strategic orientations that affect the decision of post-entry into foreign markets. Research design, data, and methodology - To investigate this, this study examines 252 cases of Korean online games for each foreign market and the distribution mode at the product-team level. Results - The result shows that companies use different distribution strategies as a post-entry mode, like licensing, or joint distribution rather than exclusive distribution, through subsidiaries even if they already have wholly owned local subsidiaries which have enough experience and resources to select the entry modes among various types and then provide full commitment and control. Additionally, it finds that strategic orientation affects post-entry strategies differently. Conclusions - Therefore, this study is noteworthy and significant, as it practically extends the existing theories such as an internalization and distribution for decision making regarding the overseas expansion of entertainment businesses.

Results: The results revealed that distribution strategies directly affected the success of business operations, as follows: 1) Customer communication channels, product variety, preserved privacy, and personal service had direct positive effects on the distribution success in terms of financial perspective, customer perspective, internal process perspective, and earning and growth perspectives; 2) Ability to learn a competitor had a positive direct relationship with the distribution success in terms of financial perspective and learning and growth perspectives, excluding customer perspective and internal process perspective; and 3) Responses to market on time had a positive and direct influence on distribution success in terms of customer, internal process perspective and learning and growth perspectives excluding financial perspective. Conclusions: This research has made an essential contribution to SMEs that they should focus on and adopt these 6ODS+4BSC concepts as development guidelines for food distribution SMEs to be more efficient and effective.

  • Purpose - In Chinese rose market, Korea competes against Latin American and African countries, but is not so competitive in terms of price and quality, implying the importance of using appropriate marketing strategies. This study aims to examine Chinese rose consumers' recognition and attributes of preference for roses produced in Korea, in order to use the result as baseline data for Korean rose exporters to China and provide implications that help establish a variety of marketing strategies targeting each region, income and age group. Research Design, Data and Methodology - 112 Chinese people were involved and interviewed in Chinese horticulture industry who had participated in 2016 Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing. Online questionnaire survey was additionally conducted with 533 Chinese living in Korea and China. The Conjoint Analysis was conducted for region, age, and income group of respondents to estimate the relative importance of rose attributes evaluated by each population group and the utility derived from each attribute level. This process aimed to compare respective population groups for the relative importance and utility to derive implications for targeted marketing strategies. Results - The analysis finds that Chinese rose consumers prioritize rose color, followed by price, flowering stage, and flower size in purchasing roses. They prefer red roses most, followed by pink and then yellow. Moreover, they prefer larger roses, and relatively cheaper roses. The analysis reveals they prefer roses in their 20%-flowering stage to more than 40%-flowering stage. Conclusions - Establishing marketing strategies differentiated for each Chinese consumer group is critical in expanding Korean rose export. The analysis finds while Chinese consumers living in Beijing considered rose color and flowering stage more importantly than their counterparts in Shanghai, Chinese consumers living in Shanghai considered rose price and size more importantly than their counterparts living in Beijing. Therefore, establishing marketing strategies based on these attributes of preference in each region is necessary. Mid & low-income consumer groups considered price as the most important factor, and high-income consumer groups considered rose color as the most important one. It is, thus, important to focus on rose color when establishing a marketing strategy with targeting the high-income consumer group.

  • Purpose - This study aims to investigate Korean distribution enterprises' entry into the Chinese market. By studying Korean companies' strategy and current situation in the Chinese retail market and analyzing Lotte Mart's strategy, this study was aimed at identifying comprehensive strategies for Korean companies striving to expand in China's retail market. Research design, data, and methodology - A case study approach is used, focusing on the three northeastern provinces in China, and examining global firms' entry into the Chinese market. The study employed a direct survey and a literature review. Results - Korean distribution firms' entry into the overseas market is in the inception stage and it should be developed, considering its effects on the national economy and other industries. Conclusion - The cases of E-mart and Lotte Mart, representing Korean distribution firms, showed that they should not rely on scale to succeed in China. Both preliminary analysis and careful strategies are required to ensure success. Considering the high growth potential of the Chinese market, a management strategy that takes account of Chinese people's emotions was needed.

  • This research aimed to explore strategies to develop the cashmere industry in Mongolia. Questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the necessity of development in different sectors in the cashmere industry, and areas of necessary competition for the development of Mongolian cashmere industry. In addition, characteristics of respondents and their companies were questioned. Surveys were distributed to people working in cashmere manufacturing companies in Ulaanbaator, Mongolia between July 25th, 2012 to September 3rd, 2012, and a total of 79 questionnaires were included in the final analysis using descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan test. Results showed that respondents perceived design as the sector that needed the most improvement, and product related strategies such as product quality, product differentiation, and design were more important than distribution or promotion related strategies. The perceptions on the development strategies differed according to company size and their target markets (domestic vs. export). Overall, respondents working in smaller companies showed greater concern for most sectors, and also felt technology, product quality and design were more important than those in working in larger companies. Companies that targeted the domestic market showed greater concern for herding and scouring sector than companies that exported, while the latter evaluated government policy, network, distribution/export channels more importantly than the former in developing the Mongolian cashmere industry.

  • Purpose: Establishing a competitive advantage in the aviation market is essential as the competition among domestic airlines intensifies. Therefore, this study examined the management strategies of both large domestic airlines and low-cost airlines. Research design, data, and methodology: This study classified domestic airlines into Full Service Airlines (FSA) and Low Cost Carriers (LCC), examined each airline's current status and characteristics, and conducted case analyses of FSA and LCC based on Porter's generic competitive strategy. Results: The analyses determined that LCC primarily implemented a cost-advantage strategy, and FSA implemented a differentiation strategy. However, as competition intensified, FSA pursued cost-advantage strategies while establishing LCC through subsidiaries. There are various specific cost reduction methods, including service simplicity, scalability, high utilization, low landing fees, low-cost unit, and point-to-point flight strategies. Conclusions: LCCs are focusing on cost advantage strategies that reduce costs; however, the FSA also runs special price events that are as good as LCCs and are comparable to LCCs on some routes. Furthermore, LCC has recently expanded its mid- and long-distance routes, making competition for long-distance routes with major airlines unavoidable.

As a result, this study provides various pieces of literature to deduce meaningful information on the appropriate business strategies that a company can use to bridge the gap of the limitations of cross-cultural impacts on international businesses. Conclusion: An organization moving into a new cultural environment faces challenges including tastes and preferences, norms, language barriers, and beliefs. Organizations, therefore, have to devise the best strategies to align themselves with the prevailing cultural conditions to reap the benefits of internationalization.
