In this study, MODFLOW model is used to analyze the groundwater flow system of Seoguipo area in Cheju island, The final parameters of permeability coefficient and storage coefficient of target area can be obtained by trial and error method using the measured data of pumping rate as initial values. And it is found that the applicability for groundwater flow system is reflected well from the simulation result of the model. Seoguipo area spring water is thought to appear by relatively stable groundwater recharge below EL. 400m according to head distribution through the analysis of observed data considering topographic and geological characteristics, Lee's study(996), and the simulation result. Also it is known that point II, III, and VI show relatively large velocity vectors, and groundwater flows through the movement path which is distributed in various directions of I, II, III, IV, V, VI, and VIl form the result of velocity vector analysis using head distribution result values to analyze the groundwater flow path under unsteady flow condition.dition.
This study assesses groundwater vulnerability to contaminants in industrial and residential/commercial areas of the city of Changwon, using DRASTIC technique and groundwater data. The DRASTIC technique was originally applied to situations in which the contamination sources are at the ground surface, and the contaminants flow into the groundwater with infiltration of rainfall. Mostly the industrial area has higher DRASTIC indices than the residential/commercial area. However, a part of the residential/commercial area having much groundwater production and great drawdown is more contaminated in groundwater than other industrial and the residential/commercial areas even if it has lowest DRASTIC indices in the study area. It indicates that groundwater contamination in urban areas can be closely related to excessive pumping resulting in a lowering of the water level. The correlation coefficient between minimum DRASTIC indices and the degree of poor water quality for 10 districts is as low as 0.40. On the other hand, the correlation coefficients between minimum DRASTIC indices and the groundwater discharge rate, and between minimum DRASTIC indices and well distribution density per unit area are 0.70 and 0.87, respectively. Thus, to evaluate the potential of groundwater contamination in urban areas, it is necessary to consider other human-made factors such as groundwater withdrawal rate and well distribution density per unit area as well as the existing seven DRASTIC factors.

This paper suggests a novel approach of integrating the quasi-distributed watershed model SWAT with the fully-distributed groundwater model MODFLOW. Since the SWAT model has semi distributed features, its groundwater components hardly considers distributed parameters such as hydraulic conductivity and storage coefficient. Generating a detailed representation of groundwater recharge, head distribution and pumping rate is equally difficult. To solve these problems, the method of exchanging the characteristics of the hydrologic response units (HRUs) in SWAT with cells in MODFLOW by fully combined manner is proposed. The linkage is completed by considering the interaction between the stream network and the aquifer to reflect boundary flow. This approach is provisionally applied to Gyungancheon basin in Korea. The application demonstrates a combined model which enables an interaction between saturated zones and channel reaches. This interaction plays an essential role in the runoff generation in the Gyungancheon basin. The comprehensive results show a wide applicability of the model which represents the temporal-spatial groundwater head distribution and recharge.

Hyporheic zone, where groundwater-stream water mixing occurs, sensitively responds to heat of groundwater and stream water temperature. Variation of stream water temperature has short time period and time dependent, because stream water temperature is influenced by daily fluctuation and seasonal air temperature. On the other hand, groundwater temperature is insignificant. In this study, we conducted 1-dimensional heat transfer analysis. The results show that there are differences of temperature distribution between gaining stream and losing stream with flux in hyporheic zone. Especially, variations of hyporheic water temperature show a significant difference in adjacent streambed, Also, the results shows that distribution of temperature was more affected by groundwater direction than intensity of flux.

Wastes produce groundwater contamination, offensive odor, and hazardous gases. This study investigates the contamination of groundwater at the Seokdae waste landfill area and seeks the desirable ways to minimize the groundwater contamination. Groundwater levels, water chemistry and aquifer characteristics of wells were examined around the Seokdae waste landfill. The water chemistry of the Dong stream, the groundwater distribution and flow were also studied. The results of this research show that the estimated quantity of the percolation from the landfill base to the ground is 520 ㎥/day and the extent of groundwater contamination is about 1-1.5 km from the center of the waste landfill. The groundwater contains heavy metals and other toxic elements. The conservation and management of the groundwater of the waste landfill need several monitoring wells to check the quantity and quality of groundwater, pumping wells to extract the contaminated groundwater, and slurry walls to protect the movement of contaminated groundwater.

To understand the stratigraphy for a hydrogeological setting, borehole logging data are used. The test site is located in Mangyeong-river bank area in Dodeok-dong Jeonju. 11 boreholes are developed to monitor groundwater level and quality. Based on the borehole data, SOLID model is used to get the distribution of each layer.
The drying up of seepage in Kumagaya City was caused by the increase of impermeable area with urbanization. The project of rain fall infiltration facilities has been planned for improvement of a hydrological cycle in Kumagaya City. With GIS and remote sensing, the most suitable arrangement for the rainfall infiltration inlets was examined. Distribution maps for infiltration, evapotranspiration and groundwater recharge at each town in Kumagaya City was designed from the land cover classification map with hydrological analysis. In these distribution maps, influence of the leak from drinking water and sewage networks was counted to the hydrological cycle.
The study on the flow characteristics and analysis of groundwater in discontinuous rock mass is very important, since the water inflow into the underground opening during excavation induces serious stability and environmental problems. To investigate the flow through single rock joint, the effect of various aperture distribution on the groundwater flow has been analyzed. Observed through the analysis is the "channel flow", the phenomenon that the flow is dominant along the path of large aperture for given joint. The equivalent hydraulic conductivity is estimated and verified through the application of the joint network analysis for 100 joint maps generated statistically. Both the analytic aproach based on isotropic continuum premise and the joint network analysis are tested and compared analyzing the gorundwater inflow for underground openings of different sizes and varying joint density. The joint network analysis is considered better to reflect the geometric properties of joint distribution in analyzing the groundwater flow.ater flow.
