Distributed Generators (DG) are rapidly increasing and most of them are interconnected with distribution network to supply power into the network. Therefore, DG may make significant impacts on distribution system operation. protection, and control with respect to the voltage regulation, voltage flicker, harmonics, fault current levels, the losses of the network, etc. These impacts would be demerits for both of DG and distribution networks. And the operation of DG may be influenced by the abnormal grid condition such as disturbances occurred in the neighboring distribution feeders as well as the feeder directly connected with DG. This paper describes the influence of fault occurred in the interconnected power network on the DG operation and the impact of DG on the network load during the interruptions of utility power.

In this paper, the analysis of the harmonics of distribution power system interconnected with DG(distributed generation) is simulated by using PSCAD/EMTDC and evaluated the harmonics. The modeling system for simulation is similar to the actual distribution system, and solar power system. The simulation analyses are performed at connection points for each sector. Harmonic standards of interconnection with DG (IEEE Std 1547 and IEEE Std 519) are applied to the evaluation algorithm, converted the simulated data through FFT method, evaluated by THD and TDD separately. The harmonic contents in the case of without DG and each sector with DG are evaluated and compared. The results of evaluation showed the effect that the harmonic contents are appropriated at all sector with DG (without DG) in the distribution power systems but the large induction motor(50KW) is increased the harmonic contents.

This paper presents a voltage analysis method of distribution systems interconnected with DG(Distributed Generation). Nowadays, small scale DG becomes to be introduced into power distribution systems. But in that case, it is difficult to properly maintain the terminal voltage of low voltage customers by using only ULTC(Under Load Tap Changer). This paper presents a voltage analysis method of distribution systems with DC for proper voltage regulation of power distribution systems with ULTC. In order to develop the voltage analysis method, distribution system modeling method and advanced loadflow method are proposed. Proposed method has been applied to a 22.9 kV practical power distribution systems.

Dispersed Generation (DG) units significantly effect the existing distribution protection practices. Therefore, new protection practices of the distribution system interconnected with DG units should be reevaluated and developed. In this paper, a new inter-tie protection scheme of DG units for distribution automatic reclosing is proposed. The impact of DG units on existing radial-sectionaliser coordination is analyzed. And the effects of the distribution reclosing type (radial and passive reclosing) on DG dynamics are analyzed and classified. From the results of the DG dynamic responses by the reclosing type, i.e. radial and passive reclosing, the inter-tie protection schemes of DG are introduced to improve the reliability and availability of utility interactive DG. The proposed schemes are proved and evaluated by a case study using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

LDC(Line Drop Compensation) is widely used in controlling ULTC(Under Load Tap Changer) output voltage at distribution substation. However, LDC may experience some difficulties in voltage control due to renewable energy resources and distributed generations. Therefore, more advanced voltage control algorithm is necessary to deal with these problems. In this paper, a modified voltage control algorithm for ULTC and DG is suggested. ULTC is operated with the voltages measured at various points in distribution system and prevents overvoltage and undervoltage in the distribution feeders. Reactive power controller in DG compensates the voltage drop in each distribution feeders. By these algorithms, the voltage unbalance between feeders and voltage limit violation will be reduced and the voltage profile in each feeder will become more flat.
Rapid depletion of fossil based oil, coal and gas reserves and its greater demand day by day necessitates the search for other alternatives. Severe environmental impacts caused by the fossil fire based power plants and the escalating fuel costs are the major challenges faced by the electricity supply industry. Integration of Distributed Generators (DG) especially, wind and solar systems to the grid has been steadily increasing due to the concern of clean environment. This paper focuses on a new simple and fast load flow algorithm named Backward Forward Sweep Algorithm (BFSA) for finding the voltage profile and power losses with the integration of various sizes of DG at different locations. Genetic Algorithm (GA) based BFSA is adopted in finding the optimal location and sizing of DG to attain an improved voltage profile and considerable reduced power loss. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient in finding the optimal location and sizing of DG in 15-bus radial distribution system (RDS).The authenticity of the placement of optimized DG is assured with other DG placement techniques.
For stable and sustainable energy supply, distributed generator (DG) has become an essential and indispensable element from environmental and energy security perspectives. However, installation of DG in distribution systems may cause negative affects on feeders because power outputs of DG could be changed irregularly. One of major negative affects is variation in voltage profile. In general, voltage regulation devices such as under load tap changer (ULTC) at distribution substation and step voltage regulator (SVR) along feeder in distribution system are used to maintain customers' receiving voltage within a predetermined range. These regulators are controlled by line drop compensation (LDC) method which calls for two parameters; the equivalent impedance and the load center voltage. Therefore, consideration of DG outputs in the LDC parameter design procedure may give large impact on the installable DG capacity. This paper proposes a method that estimates maximum Installable DG capacity considering LDC parameters of ULTC and SVR. The proposed algorithm is tested with model network.
Distributed Generation (DG) is predicted to play a important role in electric power system in the near future. insertion of DG system into existing distribution network has great impact on real-time system operation and planning. It is widely accepted that micro turbine generation (MTG) systems are currently attracting lot of attention to meet customers need in the distributed power generation market In order to investigate the performance of MT generation systems, their efficient modeling is required. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of a MT generation system suitable for grid-connected operation. The system comprises of a permanent magnet synchronous generator driven by a MT. A brief description of the overall system is given, and mathematical models for the MT and permanent magnet synchronous generator are presented. Also, the use of power electronics in conditioning the power output of the generating system is demonstrated. Simulation studies with MATLAB/Simulink have been carried out in grid-connected operation mode of a DG system. The control strategies for grid connected operation mode of DG system is also presented.

Fuel cell (FC) distributed generation (DG) is gradually becoming more attractive to mainstream electricity users as capacity improves and costs decrease. New technologies including inverters are becoming available to provide a uniform standard interconnection of DGs with an electric power system. Some of the operating conflicts and the effect of DG on power quality are addressed and investigated through simulations on a real distribution network with an FC power plant. The results of these simulations have proved load tracking capability following the real and reactive power change of the load and have shown the flow of overcurrent from an FC power plant during the ground fault of a distribution line.

Electric power quality in power transmission/distribution systems has considerably been deteriorated with the increase in the capacity of distributed generators (DGs). It is because inverters, connecting DGs to conventional power grids, tend to generate harmonic current and voltage. For harmonic mitigation, a large amount of research has been done on passive and active filters, which have been operating successfully in many countries. This paper, therefore, presents how to adopt the filters to an inverter-based DG, with considering a system consisting of both inverter-based DG and harmonic filters. In particular, this paper describes the simulation results using the PSCAD/EMTDC: firstly, the relationship between total harmonic distortion(THD) of current and output power of DG: secondly, the harmonic mitigation ability of passive and active filters. The system, furthermore, is obliged to satisfy the regulations made by Korean Electric Power Corporation(KEPCO). In the regulations, power factor should be maintained between 0.9 and 1 in a grid-connected mode. Thus, this paper suggests two methods for the system to control its power factor. First, the inverter of DG should control power factor rather than an active filter because it brings dramatic decrease in the capacity of the active filter. Second, DG should absorb reactive power only in the range of low output power in order to prevent useless capacity increase of the inverter. This method is expected to result in the variable power factor of the system according to its output power.
