The Purpose of this paper is to propose performance evaluation schemes of flexible manufacturing cell using a generalized stochastic Petri net. In the competitive and global manufacturing environment, to evaluate the feasibility and manufacturability of a product in the product design stage is highly required. Through this process, all the possible problems which may occur in the manufacturing stage can be fixed in early stage. The scheme of generalized stochastic Petri net utilizing both immediate and exponential distributed transitions are applied to model a manufacturing cell with flexible machines, material handler, transporter and buffers. Performance analyses are performed based on behavioral, structural and quantitative properties. A flexible manufacturing cell is evaluated using a Petri net simulator.
Since the manufacturing machines containing information processing capacity by development of ME technology are developed and distributed from the advanced nations, manufacturing automation with manufacturing method which keeps flexibility and productivity is supplied broadly. An introduction of manufacturing automation technology is necessary to solve difficult domestic industry environment due to international competitiveness weakness of products. The aim of this is to search for the successful factors of the manufacturing business which uses too much technology of manufacturing automation and to observe the difference of the successful factors which influence to introduction performance according to the introduction type of automation technology and the strategic type through the empirical analysis.
Additive manufacturing technology is recognized as an optimal technology for mass-customized distributed production because it can yield products with high design freedom by applying an automated production system. However, the introduction of novel technologies to the additive manufacturing industry is generally delayed, and technology uncertainty has been pointed out as one of the main causes. This paper presents the results of the research and analysis of current standardization trends that are related to additive manufacturing by examining the hierarchical structure of the quality system along with the various industry and evaluation standards. Consequently, it was confirmed that the currently unfolding standardization does not sufficiently reflect the characteristics of additive manufacturing technology, and rather can become a barrier to entry for market participants or an element that suppresses the lateral shearing ability of additive manufacturing technology.
Manufacturing firms have adapted seriously the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) techniques which consider concurrently all factors related to the product development by using effective communications and sharing of information on product development processes. This study performed modelling and characterizing the data related to product manufacturing information for Design for Manufacture(DFM) evaluation and analysis. It adapted component-based development method for communicating and managing manufacturing information among distributed manufacturing organizations. Introducing component-based development offers safety and speed to network based system. This development using Unified Modelling Language(UML) provides efficient way for reconstruction and distribution of applications. Also, the integration of database and component into the internet environment enables to communicate and manage effectively manufacturing information for DFM evaluation and analysis at any place in the world. Therefore this system can make it more reasonable that evaluating, analyzing, and effective decision making of product design using DFM technique.
The goal of a distributed simulation such as battle field simulation is to combine all kinds of simulations in the same synthetic environment and to make people interact at the same time. It is a key issue to share the same synthetic environment among simulations. To support reusability and affordability in the modeling and simulation area, DMSO(Defense Modeling and Simulation Office) of USA developed concepts such as HLA(High Level Architecture) and SEDRIS (Synthetic Environmental Data Representation and Interchange Specification). In the industrial simulation area, the digital manufacturing is the main stream. To reduce cost and to reuse simulation environment, the standardization becomes the focus of digital manufacturing. This study proposes to use SEDRIS to improve interoperability of manufacturing data. The simulation data of DELMIA, which is a leading commercial digital manufacturing solution, is mapped and translated into the SEDRIS transmittal format. Mapping of the manufacturing simulation data and the synthetic environment are implemented and verified through experiments.
The objective of this paper is to develop the flexible manufacturing system (FMS), which is cooperated with the automatic warehouse and inventory control under holonic manufacturing system (HMS). The HMS is a next wave of manufacturing revolution to deal with dynamic changing. The architecture of HMS is developed for cooperation system between the automatic warehouse agents and the manufacturing agents. This research applies the concept of HMS to develop a distributed control system for automatic warehouse and FMS by industrial network. The parts of prototype manufacturing agents consist of the conveyer system and 3-axises robot that provide the variety patterns in order to work as punch process. Each order of productions depends on the reorder points(RP) of inventory levels. The computation results indicate an improvement by comparing with traditional centralized control.
Smart manufacturing (SM) considered as a new trend of modern manufacturing helps to meet objectives associated with the productivity, quality, cost and competiveness. It is characterized by decentralized, distributed, networked compositions of autonomous systems. The model of SM is inherited from the organization of the living systems in biology and nature such as ant colony, school of fish, bee's foraging behaviors, and so on. In which, the resources of the manufacturing system are considered as biological organisms, which are autonomous entities so that the manufacturing system has the advanced characteristics inspired from biology such as self-adaptation, self-diagnosis, and self-healing. To prove this concept, a cloud machining system is considered as research object in which internet of things and cloud computing are used to integrate, organize and allocate the machining resources. Artificial life tools are used for cooperation among autonomous elements in the cloud machining system.
SCM(Supply Chain Management) is a new approach to satisfy customers via an integrated management for the whole business processes of the manufacturing from the raw material procurement to the product or service delivery to customers. Typically the semiconductor industry is the one whose supply chain network is distributed all over the world, and its manufacturing process has the particular characteristics which has to be considered in the modeling of supply chain. In this paper we suggest the push and pull type supply chain models based on the manufacturing characteristics and their mathematical formulation for the semiconductor industry. Push supply chain model pursuits the high throughput and the balance of the WIP flow, and pull supply chain model does to minimize the total cost of order-based manufacturing, distribution and transportation process in order to meet customer's request appropriately.
Globalization, unpredictable markets, increased products customization and frequent changes in products, production technologies and machining systems have become a complexity in today's manufacturing environment. One key strategy for coping with the evolution of this situation is to develop or apply an enable technology such as intelligent manufacturing. Intelligent manufacturing system (IMS) is characterized by decentralized, distributed, networked compositions of heterogeneous and autonomous systems. The model of IMS is inherited from the organization of the living systems in biology and nature so that the manufacturing system has the advanced characteristics inspired from biology such as self-adaptation, self-diagnosis, and selfhealing. To prove this concept, an innovative system with applying the advanced information and communication technology such as internet of things, cognitive agent are proposed to integrate, organize and allocate the machining resources. Innovative system is essential for modern machining system to flexibly and quickly adapt to new challenges of manufacturing environment.
