  • This paper presents an optimal operation scheduling algorithm for a smart home with energy storage system, electric vehicle and distributed generation. The proposed algorithm provides the optimal charge and discharge schedule of the EV and the ESS. In minimizing the electricity costs of the smart home, it considers not only the cost of energy purchase from the grid but also the life cost of batteries. The life costs of batteries are calculated based on the relation between the depth of discharge and life time of battery. As the life time of battery depends on the charge and discharge pattern, optimal charge and discharge schedule should consider the life cost of batteries especially when there is more than one battery with different technical characteristics. The proposed algorithm can also be used for optimal selection of size and type of battery for a smart home.

  • A vacuum chamber temperature control system of Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL) storage ring is a subsystem upgraded PAL control system, which is based upon Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) [1]. There are two control components, data acquisition system (SA120 data logger), development control system IOC (Input/Output Controller) at the storage ring of PAL. There are 240 vacuum chamber at the storage ring. It was a very important problem to solve how to monitor such a large number of vacuum chamber temperature distributed around the ring. The IOC connect MODBUS/JBUS field network to asynchronous serial ports for communication with serial device. It can simultaneously control up to 4 data acquisition systems. Upon receiving a command from a IOC running under Windows2k through the network, the IOC communicate through the slave serial interface ports to SA120. We added some software components on the top of EPICS toolkit. The design of the vacuum control system is discussed. This paper describes the development vacuum chamber temperature control system and how the design of this system.

  • There are need to develop of merchandise of value added fresh ginseng because of high consciousness level of consumer and enlarge of markets for high quality products. The fresh ginseng after harvest was distributed to farmer partually but in general, it was to market by consigner or wholsaler directly after harvest. There were a high difference on storage period of fresh ginseng in different harvesting seasons. The reduction of value of commodities of fresh ginseng for storage period was caused by decomposition and tender of tissue. The storage temperature was under the freezing point and the packing method was sealing tightly by plastic film. As the quality of fresh ginseng was defined by naked eye, it was difficult to sort the quality of ginseng directly harvest.

  • With the availability of multi-scale hydrologic data in public domain depending on DEM size, there is a need for a modeling framework that is capable of using these data to simulate hydrologic processes at multiple scales for different topographic and climate conditions for distributed hydrologic model. To address this need, an object-oriented approach, called Geographic and Hydrologic Information System Modeling Objects (GHISMO), is developed. Main hydrologic approaches in GHISMO are storage-release for direct runoff and SCS curve number method for infiltration part. This paper presents conceptual and structural framework of storage-release concept including its application to two watersheds will be presented.

  • Grid-based PACS can provide an advanced medical information services such as remote image file transfer, collaboration, remote diagnosis, and virtual hospital. In this paper, we have implemented Grid-PACS which guarantees both storage safety and extendability for virtual large scale storage system. The experimental results showed that the virtual storage system provided more efficient and faster data transfer than the conventional PACS. The proposed Grid data management system can be utilized to improve the effectiveness of the PACS data management and transmission between medical institutions.

  • Novel unsaturated polyester composites with PAN-based nanofiber, stabilized PAN nanofiber, and carbonized nanofiber webs have been fabricated, respectively, and the effects of the nanofiber web content on their electrical resistivity, the thermal stability, dynamic storage modulus, and fracture surfaces were studied. The result demonstrated that the introduction of just one single layer (which is corresponding to 2 wt.%) of the carbonized nanofiber web to unsaturated polyester resin (UPE) could contribute to reducing markedly the electrical resistivity of the resin reflecting the percolation threshold, to improving the storage modulus, and to increasing the thermal stability above $350^{\circ}C$. The effect on decreasing the resistivity and increasing the modulus was the greatest at the carbonized PAN nanofiber web content of 8 wt.%, particularly showing that the storage modulus was increased about 257~283% in the measuring temperature range of $-25^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. The result also exhibited that the carbonized PAN nanofibers were distributed uniformly and compactly in the unsaturated polyester, connecting the matrix three-dimensionally through the thickness direction of each specimen. It seemed that such the fiber distribution played a role in reducing the electrical resistivity as well as in improving the dynamic storage modulus.

  • Software defined networking (SDN) is considered to be one of the most promising paradigms in the future. To solve the scalability and performance problem that a single and centralized controller suffers from, the distributed multi-controller architecture is adopted, thus forms multi-domain SDN. In a multi-domain SDN network, it is of great importance to ensure a reliable control plane. In this paper, we focus on the reliability problem of multi-domain SDN against controller failure from perspectives of backup controller deployment and controller replication. We firstly propose a placement algorithm for backup controllers, which considers both the reliability and the cost factors. Then a controller replication mechanism based on shared data storage is proposed to solve the inconsistency between the active and standby controllers. We also propose a shared data storage layout method that considers both reliability and performance. Besides, a fault recovery and repair process is designed based on the controller backup and shared data storage mechanism. Simulations show that our approach can recover and repair controller failure. Evaluation results also show that the proposed backup controller placement approach is more effective than other methods.

  • In recent years, RDF partitioning schemes have been studied for the effective distributed storage and management of large-scale RDF data. In this paper, we propose an RDF dynamic partitioning scheme to support load balancing in dynamic environments where the RDF data is continuously inserted and updated. The proposed scheme creates clusters and sub-clusters according to the frequency of the RDF data used by queries to set graph partitioning criteria. We partition the created clusters and sub-clusters by considering the workloads and data sizes for the servers. Therefore, we resolve the data concentration of a specific server, resulting from the continuous insertion and update of the RDF data, in such a way that the load is distributed among servers in dynamic environments. It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme significantly improves the query processing time over the existing scheme.

  • MapReduce, the Hadoop's essential core technology, is most commonly used to process big data based on the Hadoop distributed file system. However, the existing MapReduce-based big data processing techniques have a feature of dividing and storing files in blocks predefined in the Hadoop distributed file system, thus wasting huge infrastructure resources. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient MapReduce-based big data processing scheme. The proposed method enhances the storage efficiency of a big data infrastructure environment by converting and compressing the data to be processed into a data format in advance suitable for processing by MapReduce. In addition, the proposed method solves the problem of the data processing time delay arising from when implementing with focus on the storage efficiency.

  • The development of various mobile devices and mobile platform technology has led to a steady increase in the number of online social network (OSN) users. OSN users are free to communicate and share information through activities such as social networking, but this causes a new, user privacy issue. Various distributed OSN architectures are introduced to address the user privacy concern, however, users do not obtain technically perfect control over their data. In this study, the control rights of OSN user are maintained by using personal data storage (PDS). We propose a technique to improve data privacy protection that involves making a group with the user's friend by generating and providing fake text data based on user's real text data. Fake text data is generated based on the user's word sensitivity value, so that the user's friends can receive the user's differential data. As a result, we propose a system architecture that solves possible problems in the tradeoff between service utility and user privacy in OSN.
