FIND THE ROOT CAUSE OF WELDING-INDUCED DISTORTION BY NUMERICAL MODELING METHOD

  • The cumulative, shrinkage plastic strains and their distributions in the weld joint after completion of the welding process determine welding-induced distortion. Although the weldment undergoes many complex physical and metallurgical changes during welding, only the material plastic temperature range and its cooling history below this temperature range influence the [mal state of the cumulative shrinkage plastic strains. In addition, for structural welds, these plastic strains are uniform, except in the arc start and stop regions, along the weld. Therefore, the plastic strain-based "inherent shrinkage model" is effective and accurate to describe welding-induced distortion. This paper presents the theoretical background and numerical verification of this root cause.

  • Thermal drift of the machine tool spindle due to temperature increase dominates the major source of the machine tool error. To compensate the thermal errors, software based error correction methods could be implemented. In th~s case, we need model to map the relationship between temperature and thermal distortion. Traditionally, two or three different methods have been trled: step increase of spindle speed, constant, random. The latter two methods are described in the document of ISOlDIS230-3. In this research, three different methods were verified through the experiments from the viewpoint of compensation of thermal distortion. Constant spindle speed turned out good enough for monitoring the behavior of the thermal drift and modeling the relationship between temperature and thermal distortion.

나선형 패턴을 사용한 어안렌즈 영상 교정 및 기하학적 왜곡 보정 (Calibration of Fisheye Lens Images Using a Spiral Pattern and Compensation for Geometric Distortion)

  • 본 논문에서는 어안렌즈의 교정(calibration)과 기하학적 왜곡을 보정하기 위해서 광학 시뮬레이터에 적합한 나선형 패턴을 제안하고, 이를 이용하여 별도의 수학적 모델링이 필요 없는 교정 알고리듬을 제안한다. 나선형 패턴을 광학 시뮬레이터의 입력 영상으로 이용하여 어안렌즈로 왜곡 시킨 영상에서 기하학적으로 이동된 점들의 정합을 통하여 교정을 수행한다. 이러한 과정에서 나선형 패턴 영상에서 중심으로부터 멀어지는 점들이 어안렌즈의 기하학적 왜곡을 거쳐 이동되는 정보를 왜곡되기 전의 위치와 정합하기 때문에 정확한 교정이 가능한 동시에, 별도의 모델링이 필요 없기 때문에 효율적인 처리가 가능하다. 제안된 기술은 어안렌즈를 이용한 패턴인식 시스템에서 손실 없는 디지털 영상 확대를 통하여 정확한 정보를 추출하는 데에 이용할 수 있다. 또한 넓은 시야각을 필요로 하는 다양한 영상처리 분야에 적용하여 어안렌즈의 교정과 왜곡 보정을 가능하게 한다.

HEVC-기반 3차원 비디오 부호화에서 깊이 모델링 간소화 방법 (Simplified Depth Modeling in HEVC-based 3D Video Coding)

  • 본 논문에서는 최근 3D-HEVC 표준화 작업에서 평가 중인 깊이 모델링 모드(DMM: depth modeling modes) 기술의 복잡도를 줄이는 방법을 제안한다. DMM은 HEVC의 인트라 예측에 네 개 모드를 추가하여 깊이 영상에서 객체의 에지를 정확하게 표현하기 위한 기술이다. 특히, 모드 3은 이미 정의되어 있는 다수의 웨지렛(wedgelet) 후보들로부터 왜곡값을 계산해야 하기 때문에 복잡도가 높다. 제안하는 방법에서는 참조 블록의 각 변에서 인접 화소의 절대값 차를 이용해 화소값이 급격히 변화하는 위치를 찾는다. 이를 기반으로 웨지렛 후보의 수를 6개로 줄여 불필요한 웨지렛 왜곡강 계산은 생략했다. 모의실험을 통해 제안하는 방법이 부호화 성능은 유지하면서 평균 3.1%의 복잡도 줄임을 보였다.

Three-dimensional finite element analysis of unilateral mastication in malocclusion cases using cone-beam computed tomography and a motion capture system

  • Purpose: Stress distribution and mandible distortion during lateral movements are known to be closely linked to bruxism, dental implant placement, and temporomandibular joint disorder. The present study was performed to determine stress distribution and distortion patterns of the mandible during lateral movements in Class I, II, and III relationships. Methods: Five Korean volunteers (one normal, two Class II, and two Class III occlusion cases) were selected. Finite element (FE) modeling was performed using information from cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scans of the subjects' skulls, scanned images of dental casts, and incisor movement captured by an optical motion-capture system. Results: In the Class I and II cases, maximum stress load occurred at the condyle of the balancing side, but, in the Class III cases, the maximum stress was loaded on the condyle of the working side. Maximum distortion was observed on the menton at the midline in every case, regardless of loading force. The distortion was greatest in Class III cases and smallest in Class II cases. Conclusions: The stress distribution along and accompanying distortion of a mandible seems to be affected by the anteroposterior position of the mandible. Additionally, 3-D modeling of the craniofacial skeleton using CBCT and an optical laser scanner and reproduction of mandibular movement by way of the optical motion-capture technique used in this study are reliable techniques for investigating the masticatory system.

  • This paper describes the camera caliberation based-neural network with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Radial distoriton causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering, that is the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. Thin prism distortion arises from imperfection in lens design and manufacturing as well as camera assembly. It is our purpose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing. The performance of proposed camera aclibration is illustrated by simulation and experiment.

H.264/AVC에서 모드 결정을 위한 개선된 율-왜곡 예측 (Improved Rate-Distortion Estimation for Mode Decision in H.264/AVC)

  • 본 논문은 H.264/AVC 의 효율적 모드 결정을 위한 율 왜곡 예측 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 방법에서 모드 결정은 DCT 계수의 라플라시안 분포 모델링을 적용하여 비트율을 예측함으로서 양자화와 엔트로피 부호화의 과정이 불필요하다. 실험결과, 실제 율-왜곡치와 제안한 방식과의 율-왜곡치가 거의 일치하였고, 기존의 방식보다 0.02 dB의 PSNR 이득을 보였다.

Mass-Spring-Damper Model for Offline Handwritten Character Distortion Analysis

  • Among the various aspects of offline handwritten character patterns, it is the great variety of writing styles and variations that renders the task of computer recognition very hard. The immense variety of character shape has been recognized but rarely studied during the past decades of numerous research efforts. This paper tries to address the problem of measuring image distortions and handwritten character patterns with respect to reference patterns. This work is based on mass-spring mesh model with the introduction of simulated electric charge as a source of the external force that can aid decoding the shape distortion. Given an input image and a reference image, the charge is defined, and then the relaxation procedure goes to find the optimum configuration of shape or patterns of least potential. The relaxation process is based on the fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm, well-known for numerical integration. The proposed method of modeling is rigorous mathematically and leads to interesting results. Additional feature of the method is the global affine transformation that helps analyzing distortion and finding a good match by removing a large scale linear disparity between two images.

  • In this paper, a method for camera position estimation in gasher using elechoendoscopic image sequence is proposed. In orders to obtain proper image sequences, the gasser in divided into three sections. It Is presented thats camera position modeling for 3D information extvac lion and image distortion due to the endoscopic lenses is corrected. The feature points are represented with respect to the reference coordinate system below 10 percents error rate. The faster distortion correction algorithm is proposed in this paper. This algorithm uses error table which is faster than coordinate transform method using n -th order polynomials.
