In marine controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) modeling, it may be difficult to evaluate primary fields accurately using conventional linear filters because they decay very rapidly with distance. However, since there exists a closed-form solution to the Hankel transform in TM mode for a homogeneous half space, we can assess the accuracy of linear filters for evaluating the Hankel transform. As a result, only nine out of 36 source-receiver pairs show that EM fields decrease linearly in semi-log scale with an increase of source-receiver distance, while EM fields are either 0 or not reduced significantly due to an effect of the air layer. There also exist closed-form solutions for the nine pairs, and the others can be evaluated accurately with a relatively short filter. This paper proposes a method which uses closed-form solutions for TM-mode Hankel transforms and a filter with 61 coefficients for TE-mode ones.

The present study is deeply concerned with the reliability design method(Level III) for caisson breakwaters using expected sliding distance, and the objectives of this study are to propose the employment of a doubly-truncated normal distribution and to present the validity for it. In this study, therefore, the explanations are made for consideration of effects of uncertain factors, and a clear basis that the doubly-truncated normal distribution should be employed in the computation process of expected sliding distance by Monte-Carlo simulation is presented with introduction of the employment method. Even though only caisson breakwaters are treated in this paper, the employment of doubly-truncated normal distribution can be applied to various coastal structures as well as other engineering fields, and therefore it is expected that the present study will be extended in various fields.
The aim of this study was to investigate the setup accuracy for tangential breast treatment patients using electronic portal image and 2-D reconstruction image Twenty two patients undergoing tangential breast treatment. To explore the setup accuracy, distances between chosen landmarks were taken as reference parameters. The difference between measured reference parameters on simulation films and electronic portal images (EPIs) was calculated as the setup error. A total of 22 simulation films and 110 EPIs were evaluated. In the tangential fields, the calculated reference parameters were the central lung distance (CLD), central soft-tissue distance (CSTD), and above lung distance (ALD), below lung distance (BLD). In the medial tangential field, the average difference values for these parameters were 1.0, -6.4, -2.1 and 2.0, respectively; and the ${\sigma}$ values were 1.5, 2.3, 4.1 and 1.1, respectively. In the lateral tangential field, the average difference values for these parameters were -1.5, -4.3, -2.7 and -1.3, respectively; and the ${\sigma}$ values were 3.3, 2.1, 2.9 and 2.5, respectively. CLD, CSTD, ALD and BLD in the tangential fields are easily identifiable and are helpful for detecting setup errors using EPIs in patients undergoing tangential breast radiotherapy treatment.

Laser distance measuring systems are used in many fields with high precision. However, when measuring the reflector such as the mirror and the black color, a laser distance measuring system does not guarantee the measurement accuracy. In order to measure the shape of the cargo, this study proposes the radar distance measurement system. The radar distance measuring system is composed of a distance measuring unit with a 24 GHz antenna module, a signal processing and control board and the 1-axis tilting unit. And, this study developed a monitoring program to monitor the measured data. In order to evaluate performance of the developed system, the distance measurement tests are carried out. The distance error was about 6-15 cm. However, considering the size of the cargo, the precision is not a problem. And, cargo shape was measured by using the distance information measured by the 1-axis tilting unit. It could get a 2 dimension shape profile for the cargo stacked in a yard.
Uniaxial square Helmholtz coils for testing SQUID sensors were designed and their field distributions were calculated. Optimum parameters for maximizing the uniform region in the Helmholtz mode were obtained for different uniformity tolerances. The coil system consists of 2 pairs of identical square loops, a Helmholtz pair for generating uniform fields and the other for the 2nd-order gradient fields in combination with the Helmholtz pair. Full expressions of the axial component of the field were calculated by using Biot-Savart's law. To understand the behavior of the field near the coil center, analytical expressions were obtained up to the 4th-order in the midplane and along the coil axis. The Helmholtz condition for generating uniform fields was calculated to be $d/{\alpha}=0.544505643$, where 2d is the inter-coil distance and $2{\alpha}$ is the side length of the coil square. Maximized uniform range can be obtained for a given nonuniformity tolerance by choosing $d/{\alpha}$ slightly lower than the Helmholtz condition. The pure second-order gradient field can be generated by subtracting the Helmholtz field from the field of the 2nd pair with equal magnitudes of the center fields of the two pairs. The coil system is useful for testing balance and sensitivity of SQUID gradiometers.

The experimental study on gasesous laminar free-jet flow was investigated by applying high voltage alternating current (AC) to the nozzle. The jet flows were affedcted significatly by AC electric fields particularly at high voltages for applied frequencies less than 80 Hz, while those were not responded to further increased frequencies. Under certain AC conditions of applied voltgae and frequency, the laminar gaseous fuel stem was broken down at an axial distance and subsequently separtaed into some parts. The velocity fields in jet flows interactiong with applied electric fields were compared with those without having electric field. Interaction of applying electric fields with laminar free jet flow was discussed in detail, and the possible mechanism was also explained.
With an increase in the commercialization of electricity, and the development of advanced and large electric devices and various wireless radio wave services, concerns over the effects of electromagnetic fields on human health have increased. Accordingly, the World Health Organization encouraged the development of international standards by establishing the 'International Electromagnetic Fields Project' in 1996 based on studies on the harmful effects of electromagnetic fields on the human body. Moreover, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) classified electromagnetic fields as possible carcinogens under Group 2B category, even though they have been found to have a weak correlation with those effects on human health. Mid-to-large-sized electric facilities used at industrial sites mostly adopt a commercial frequency of 60 Hz, and workers handling these facilities are exposed to such extremely low frequency (ELF) fields for a long time. A previous study suggested that exposure to ELF electromagnetic fields with frequency ranges from 0 to 300 Hz, even for a short time, at densities higher than 100 μT may have harmful effects on human body as it affects the activation of nerve cells in the central nervous system by inducing an electric field and current and stimulating muscles and the nervous system in the body. Such studies, however, focused on home appliances used by ordinary people, and research on facilities utilizing high-capacity current and operated by workers at industrial sites is lacking. Therefore, in this study, a 3000 kilowatt generator, which is a high-capacity electric facility employed at industrial sites, was investigated, and the size of the magnetic fields generated during its no-load and high-load operations per distance to produce a map was measured to reveal spots deemed hazardous according to domestic and international exposure standards. The findings of this study is expected to alleviate workers' anxiety about the harmful effects of magnetic fields on their body and to minimize the level of exposure during operations.
Optimal force for orthodontic treatment is the force that produces a rapid rate of tooth movement without discomfort to the Patient or ensuing tissue damage. Recently considerable interest has been generated in the application of magnets as a way to obtain an optimal force. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of static magnetic fields of Sm-Co magnets on molecular and cellular activities. The distance of erythrocyte sedimentation was measured directly, and the activities and the syntheses of $Fe^{2+}$-related enzymes (catalase and NO synthase) and non $Fe^{2+}$-related enzyme (lactic dehydrogenase) were assayed by the spectrophotometer. The growth and the proliferation of osteoblast-like cells $MC_3T_3-E_1$ were determined by the crystal violet staining and the ${^3}H$-thymidine incorporation. The erythrocytes were exposed to the pole face flux density of 1,400 G (gauss), and the enzymes and osteoblast-like cells $MC_{3}T_3-E_1$ were exposed to the flux density of 7,000 G. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The distance of sedimentation of erythrocyte was not affected by the static magnetic fields. 2. The activities of catalase and lactic dehydrogenase were not affected by the static magnetic fields. 3. The intracellular syntheses of NO synthase and lactic dehydrogenase were not affected by the static magnetic fields. 4. The growth and the proliferation of cultured osteoblast-like cells $MC_{3}T_3-E_1$ were not affected by the static magnetic fields. These results suggested that the molecular and cellular activities were not significantly influenced by the static magnetic fields.

Snapshots of eight SA and standard fields from low to high galactic latitudes were made using the KPNO 0.9m 2K $\times$ 2K CCD with a limiting magnitude from 19 to 22.5. The purpose of this study is to determine the vertical distribution of stars with respect to Galactic latitude and z-distance in comparison with the model simulation between intermediate population to the 'thick disk' component of scale height of a few kpc. Comparison of the preliminary results between observed and model simulation for 3 of the S fields shows good agreement both in V-mag and B- V color distributions. A bimodal distribution in B- V at high galactic latitude seems to be represented by a halo and 'thick disk' dwarf in the blue and by a normal disk dwarf population in the red.
In Particle Tracking Velocimetry, the analysis of double-exposed photographic plate can be carried out either by means of Young's fringe analysis or by a digital image processing technique. In this study, we used digital image processing to two images in one frame far analyzing in-cylinder flow fields, and compared PTV with PSV(Particle Streak Velocimetry). Additionally, this technique was verified by two different calibration method. One is interpolation by invert distance, the other is interpolation by area ratio. Finally, the results between two interpolation methods were similar in whole flow fields.
