Order Batch Formations for Less Picker Blocking in a Narrow-Aisle Picking System

  • This paper analyses the best batch formations for order picking throughput in narrow-aisle order picking systems. Our analytical comparison finds that a high pick density variation leads to a heavy picker blocking. Simulation experiments show that a distance-based batching algorithm reduces picker blocking by decreasing the number of aisles visited and stabilizing the variation in number of picks per aisle by packing orders tightly, and that the solution quality and mechanism for determining the batch size dictated by the sorting strategy causes varying amounts of blocking. We conclude that combining a distance-based batching method with an appropriate batch sizing strategy will reduce picker blocking and shorten travel in narrow-aisle picking systems.

  • A diesel engine is one of the major prime movers to its high thermal efficiency. But due to the recent attention far the environmental pollution, the emissions of diesel engine became to a important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel spray injected into a combustion chamber. The factor which controls the diesel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of pressure and temperature. In this paper, experiments were conducted far the variation of the environmental temperature(273k, 373k, 573k), free spray and impinging spray. And the notions of penetration, spray angle, axial distance for free spray, and axial distance, spray thickness from impinging wall fur impinging spray.

  • As the statistical data, the most of electrical shock accidents have been caused by human errors including those of mistake, carelessness, and so on during normal condition. But, there are currently no international standards for the determination of withstand distance to ensure safety of personnel form 22.9 kV electrical power facilities during their normal operation. Therefore, this paper describes the characteristics of flash-over voltage by moisture variation to establish the distance clearances in terms of electrical safety.

GIS를 이용한 연안 수질등급 평가 (The Assessment of Coastal Water Quality Grade Using GIS)

  • The purpose of this study is to assess spatiotemporal variation of coastal water quality according to time and location changes. For this we developed numerical marine trophic index base on four water quality components (chlorophyll, suspended solids, dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus) and applied this index to the water quality data measured in the korean coastal zone for the 7-years period from 1997 to 2003. Water quality data are obtained only at selected sites even though they are potentially available at any location. Therefore, in order to estimate spatial variation of coastal water quality, it is necessary to estimate the unknown values at unsampled locations based on observation data. In this study, we used IDW (Inverse Distance Weighted) method to predict water quality components at unmeasured locations and applied marine trophic index to predicted values obtained by IDW interpolation. The results of this study indicate that marine trophic index and spatial interpolation are useful for understanding spatiotemporal characteristics of coastal water quality.

  • Manual grading and sorting of red-ginsengs are inherently unreliable due to its subjective nature. A computerized technique based on optical and geometrical characteristics was studied for the objective quality evalution. Spectral reflectance of three categories of red-ginsengs - "Chunsam", "Chisam", "Yangsam" - were measured and analyzed. Variation of reflectance among parts of a single ginseng was more significant than variation among the quality categories of ginsengs. A PC-based image processing algorithm was developed to extract geometrical features such as length and thickness of body, length and number of roots, position of head and branch point, etc. The algorithm consisted of image segmentation, calculation of Euclidean distance, skeletonization and feature extraction. Performance of the algorithm was evaluated using sample ginseng images and found to be mostly sussessful.

  • In this paper, a co-axial type ozonizer varied with discharge gap was designed and manufactured for investigating (1) discharge characteristics with variation of output voltage power supply, flow rate and gap distance (2) ozone generation and solubility characteristics with variation of flow rate, gap distance and discharge power. Pure oxygen was used as process gas of the co-axial type ozonizer.

무아레 무늬의 시각적 공간감각을 측정하는 시표로서의 가능성 조사 (Research on a New Vision Test Chart Measuring Visual and Spatial Sense of Moire Fringes)

  • 목적: 시각적 공간감각인 물체의 거리감과 움직임에 대하여 시력측정이 가능한 격자시표를 제안하고자 한다. 방법: 주기성을 갖는 한 쌍의 격자를 제작하여 이를 렌즈로 결상하고 그 상을 시력표에 투영하여 도형모양의 시표를 형성한다. 이 격자를 회전 또는 선형 이동하여 도형모양의 시표에 거리감과 움직임을 주는 형식으로 피검사자가 공간감각을 인지할 때 격자의 위치변위를 알 수 있도록 한다. 결과: 격자를 회전하여 거리감의 정도를 나타내는 측정값은 이론식에 의한 값과 비교하여 평균 2.98%의 오차를 나타냈고 선형이동에 따른 움직임을 인식하는 결과는 격자가 $\theta=15^{\circ}$ 회전된 상태에서 평균 1.73%의 오차를 나타냈다. 결론: 본 실험에서 제시한 무아레 무늬의 시표는 시각적 공간감각에서 피검사자의 거리감과 물체의 움직임을 측정하는 시표로서 그 활용이 가능하다.

정전 고속 미스트 엘리미네이터의 포집 효율 특성 (Particle removal characteristics of high-velocity electrostatic mist eliminator)

  • In this study, we developed a flat-plate type wet electrostatic precipitator that generates stable corona discharge compared to wire type discharge electrode. In order to compare the particle removal efficiency according to the shape of the discharge electrode such as the variation of the horizontal and vertical distance between spiked edges, and the variation of the height of discharge pin support were tested. As a result, when the horizontal distance between spiked edges was increased up to 36 mm, the vertical distance between spiked edges was increased up to 54 mm, and the height of the discharge pin support was increased up to 76 mm, the removal efficiency of PM10 was maintained at approximate 60.0%. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of particles over $5{\mu}m$ was about 80% or more. When the flow rate was 4 m/s, the gap between collection plates was 60 mm, and -14 kV was applied to the discharge electrode. The particle removal efficiency of the flat-plate type electrostatic precipitator was maintained when the horizontal and vertical distance between spiked edges, and the height of the discharge pin support was below a certain level. Those variables may be the important design factors for the shape of the discharge electrode. Therefore, when designing the electrostatic precipitator with multiple channels, the horizontal and vertical distance between spiked edges, and the height of discharge pin support must be selected in consideration of the weight of the discharge electrode and the processing cost.

하중 가변형 전동 프레스를 이용한 차량용 클러치 디스크 쿠션 변위량 측정 장치 개발 (Development of Vehicle Clutch Discs Cushion Variation Measurement Device Using a Variable Load Electric Press)

  • Vehicle clutch measurement for disc cushion variation was developed for the production of high quality Dual clutch transmissions. The developed device is composed of load cells for load measurement and LVDT for measuring the distance variation measurement in cushion variation. The servo motor-driven electric press for flexible loads that was developed was controlled by a PC-based HMI system, LabVIEW, and the device was able to continuously record real time measurement data with the accuracies of ${\pm}0.1\;kgf$ load and ${\pm}5{\mu}m$ cushion amount, which is far above the requirements of commercial vehicle standards.

Method of Setting Nozzle Intervals at the Finishing Scale Breaker

  • The scale is removed from the strip by high pressure hydraulic descaling at the FSB (Finishing Scale Breaker). Recently, the spray height of nozzle has a trend to be shorter for the purpose of increasing the impact pressure by the high pressure water jet. Here, the nozzle intervals should be decided after considering the impact pressure and the temperature distribution on the strip. In other words, the minimum of impact pressure at the overlap of spray influences the surface grade of the strip due to scale and the overlap distance of the spray affects the temperature variation in the direction of the width of strip. In the present study, the impact pressure of the high pressure water jet is measured by the hydraulic descaling system and calculated with regard to the lead angle of 15$^{\circ}$ and the offset angle of 15$^{\circ}$, and then the temperature distribution and the temperature variation are calculated at the overlap distances of 0 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm, respectively. The method of setting nozzle intervals is shown by utilizing these results.
