Representing protein three-dimensional structure by concatenating a sequence of protein fragments gives an efficient application in analysis, modeling, search, and prediction of protein structures. This paper investigated the effective combination of distance measures, which can exploit large protein structure database, in order to construct a protein fragment library representing native protein structures accurately. Clustering method was used to construct a protein fragment library. Initial clustering stage used inter alpha-carbon distance having low time complexity, and cluster extension stage used the combination of inter alpha-carbon distance, Binet-Cauchy distance, and root mean square deviation. Protein fragment library was constructed by leveraging large protein structure database using the proposed combination of distance measures. This library gives low root mean square deviation in the experiments representing protein structures with protein fragments.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the operational state of Distance universities' electronic libraries through the Lifelong Education Law, and to find out the related problems. The main investigational focus was on the operational methodologies of the libraries and the usage levels of the full-text service. The data were collected through accessing the URLs of 17 Distance universities authorized till 2005. The result is that every university is operating their libraries either on their own $(17.7\%)$ or by using the links to the external libraries $(82.4\%)$. However, only $(35.3\%)$ of the surveyed universities provide the full-text service available on the Internet. Thus, in order to establish the fourth generation Distance university based on the Internet and Web, it is urgently needed to improve the construction and operation standards of electronic libraries in the Lifelong Education Law.

This study aims to grasp what factors affect users' recognition level and expectation level for library service, being offered at the library of Korea National Open University. Also, this study seeks to conduct a survey and analyze whether users' recognition level by library service dimensions has actually influenced the intention and the satisfaction with using the library. For this, it carried out the theoretical approach, which considers domestic and foreign documents on evaluation of quality of library service, and the empirical approach of questionnaire research and analysis. A research model was designed on the basis of LibQUAL+model to achieve the objective of this research. And the group-based difference was confirmed by carrying out verification on research hypothesis. As a result of analysis, the users' current recognition level by library service dimensions of Korea National Open University was indicated to have influence on the whole satisfaction with library and the continuous use intention. The whole satisfaction was indicated to have an effect on continuous use intention. Also, to enhance users' satisfaction level according to the behavioral characteristics of using library, the core elements for improving the library service of Korea National Open University were cited and these include improving the facility of library, implementing smart digital library system for offering remotely academic information, and securing diversity and currency of academic information sources such as printing materials and electronic materials.

The main purpose of the study is to identify the key aspects of the use of innovative distance learning technologies in the training of biology students. Currently, there is a modernization, the evolution of the education system from a classical university to a virtual one, from lecture material teaching to computer educational programs, from a book library to a computer one, from multi-volume paper encyclopedias to modern search databases. During studies in higher education, distance learning ensures the delivery of information in an interactive mode through the use of information and communication technologies. The main disadvantage of distance learning is the emotional interaction of the teacher with students. It is necessary to increase the level of methodological developments for independent studies of students. The methodology includes a number of theoretical methods. Based on the results of the study, the main elements of the use of innovative distance learning technologies in the training of biology students were identified.

A study on the remote library users showed that remote users preferred online databases and internet as information resources because of easy access and easy of use. However, they have used books and journals, which are printed resources, as main information resources because online databases and internet cannot satisfy their information needs. Also, 86.7 percent of remote users consider library services as an important issue to choose a distance learning program, and remote users extremely motivated by their professors to use library so that there are needs to have partnership between distance learning programs and library services. Finally, remote users consider authority and accuracy and contents of obtained information as important issues for their information rather than design of the databases, so that library should secure more digitalized information for remote users needs. This study is to contribute to improve quality of information services for remote users, however, it is not thoroughgoing enough, and there should be successive researches in the future.

This study aims to provide some rosie material for the libraries to improve its role for supporting the virtual university by recognizing the changing roles to have to support the distance education which is becoming a growing area in the coming new century due to the necessity of continuing renewal and the retaining of the information related workers. Through the study, a few conclusions were derived. (1) To support the virtual university, the library services should be directed toward the operation of the full access - philosophy and should reflect the information needs of the off-campus students. The librarians should be equipped with the ability to make use of networked resources and to provide the document delivery services together with the ability to develop the web-based user training programs. The department of library and Information Science should educate the future librarian for the purpose of supporting the virtual university. (2) A written and agreed guidelines should be established to specify the philosophy, management, facilities, resources and services to support the virtual university. And it is desirable that in the near future the department and a librarian responsible for the supporting the distance education should be established.

The purpose of this study presents a model of the integrated online library service with LMS (Learning Management System). The new library service is called 'Library on Blackboard' which was developed and implemented by Murray State University Libraries in Murray, Kentucky, USA. This user-centered service with applied information technology has the potential to enhance the quality of the library performance in university libraries. The introduction of the Learning Management System in South Korea has a potential to enhance the education environment and promote new library services. With the emergence of new information technologies and growing popularity in online classes and distance education programs, the importance and usage of Learning Management Systems in higher education has increased.

This research has investigated the cyber university students' awareness of the portal service of the digital library. In order to identify characteristics of the cyber university students, the research examined demographic characteristics of the students and library usage status. Awareness on the portal service was also analyzed in accordance with the characteristics of the users. The analysis showed that the most needed service was concise/full search service, which was the most frequently used service. The students were most satisfied with the liaison service; service awareness of several libraries showed statistically significant results depending on age, occupation. Based on the analysis, the research proposed the following measures to increase the use of the digital library of cyber university students: active PR on library service, and intensifying the library user education.

This paper presents an algorithm of optimal cutting tool selection for machining of the point-based surface that is defined by a set of surface points rather than parametric polynomial surface equations. As the ball-end and fillet-end mills are generally used for finish machining in a 3-axis computer numerical control machine, the algorithm is applicable for both cutters. The optimum tool would be as large as possible in terms of the cutter radius and/or corner radius which maximise (s) the material removal rate (i.e., minimise (s) the machining time), while still being able to machine the entire point-based surface without gouging any surface point. The gouging are two types: local and global. In this paper, the distance between the cutter bottom and surface points is used to check the local gouging whereas the shortest distance between the surface points and cutter axis is effectively used to check the global gouging. The selection procedure begins with a cutter from the tool library, which has the largest cutter radius and/or corner radius, and then adequacy of the point-density is checked to limit the accuracy of the cutter selection for the point-based surface within tolerance prior to the gouge checking. When the entire surface is gouge-free with a chosen cutting tool then the tool becomes the optimum cutting tool for a list of cutters available in the tool library. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated considering two examples.

After the pandemic, universities are shifting to distance learning, and the information use environment of libraries is rapidly changing. Therefore, there is a need for academic libraries to provide learning and research support services to users in response to these changes. This study analyzed the following contents, focusing on the contents of online services of academic libraries in order to understand the services provided by academic libraries after the pandemic, 1) the current status of online information services provided by 60 academic libraries at domestic and foreign and 2) the experience and requirements for using the online information services of academic library were investigated. As a result of the study, academic libraries at domestic and foreign responded to the untact environment by providing various online information services and users showed high experience and requirements for the electronic resource service and online user education service of academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic. Based on the analysis of the current status of online information services provided by domestic and foreign academic libraries after the outbreak of the pandemic, as well as the experiences and requirements of university students, several strategies were proposed to improve the quality of university education and library online information services and to plan services that respond to user needs.
