This paper is concerned with the influence of the plastic property of the rivet on the numerical prediction of the Self-Piercing Rivet (SPR) Joining. In order to predict the plastic property of the rivet, a ring compression specimen was directly fabricated from the rivet used for the mechanical joining of dissimilar materials, and the FE analysis together with the ring compression test was iteratively carried out by changing the plastic property of the rivet. For reliable FE analysis, a friction coefficient was estimated based on a friction calibration curve, measuring the reductions in inner diameter and height of the ring specimen after the compression test. From each simulation result, the force-displacement curves were then compared from each other so as to obtain the rivet plastic property that shows good agreement with the experimental result. The SPR joining between GA590 1.0t and Al5052 2.0t was conducted, and the numerical prediction was performed with the use of the plastic property evaluated based on the inverse analysis and the one referred from Mori et al. [11]. Comparison of the experiment and the numerical predictions in terms of the interlock and bottom thickness revealed that the reliable evaluation of the plastic property of the rivet is necessary for the trustworthy numerical prediction of the SPR joining.

This article is aimed to study the effects of resistance spot welding (RSW) on the lap joint properties between AA1100 aluminum alloy and SGACD zinc coated steel and its properties. The summarized experimental results are as follows. The summarized experimental results are as follows. The optimum welding parameters that produced maximum tensile shear strength of 2200 N was a welding current of 95 kA, a holding time of 10 cycles, and a welding pressure of 0.10 MPa. Increasing of welding current, increased the tensile shear strength of the joint and also increased the amount of aluminum dispersion at the joint interface. The lap joint of steel over the aluminum (Type I) showed the higher joint tensile shear strength than a lap joint of aluminum over the steel (Type II). The indentation depth and the ratio of the indentation depth to the plate thickness decreased when the welding current was increased in the type I lap joint and also decreased when the welding current was decreased in the type II lap joint. The interface structure showed the formation of the brittle $FeAl_3$ intermetallic compound that deteriorated the joint strength.

In the process to manufacture for metallic structures, control of welding deformation is one of an important problems connected with reliability of the manufactured structures so that welding deformation should be measured and controlled with quickly and actively. Also, welding parameters which have as lot of effects on welding deformation such as arc voltage, welding current and welding speed can also be controlled. The objectives for this study were to develop a simple 2-D FEM to calculate not only the transient thermal histories but also the sizes of fusion and heat-affected zone (HAZ) in multi pass arc welds including the butt and fillet weld type with dissimilar thickness, and to concentrate on a developed model for the finding the parameters of Godak's moving heat source model based on a GA. The developed model includes a GA program using MATLB and GA toolbox, and a batch mode thermal model using ANSYS software. Not only the thermal model was verified by comparison with Goldak's work but also the developed model was validated with molten zone section experimental data.
In order to use Si as an anode material for lithium-ion battery, the particle size was controlled to less than $0.5{\mu}m$ and carbon was coated on the surface with the thickness less than 10 nm. The carbon fiber was grown on the Si surface with 50~150 wt%, and the carbon coating was carried out once again. The Si composite material was mixed with dissimilar metals to increase the conductivity, and graphite was mixed to improve cyclic life characteristics. The physical and electrochemical characteristics of composite materials were measured with XRD, SEM, TEM and coin cell. The discharge capacity of Si/PC/CNF/PC was lower than that of Si/PC (Pyrolytic Carbon)/CNF (Carbon Nano Fiber). However, the cyclic life of Si/PC/CNF/PC was higher. Initial discharge capacity of 1512 mA h g-1 at 0.2 C rate and initial efficiency of 78% were shown. It also showed a capacity retention of 94% in 10 cycles.

Recently, owing to the high demand for eco-friendly cars in the automotive industry, noise and vibrations have become major challenges. The use of laminated damping steel is increasing in response to these demands. Laminated damping steel is primarily used in sound insulation plates. The vibration energy is converted into thermal energy due to the viscoelastic resin being located between two steel sheets and being able to damp the vibrations when an external force, such as, noise or vibration is applied to the steel plate. Laminated damping steel is chiefly applied to dash panels in automotive body parts, and because of its structure, junction technology for bonding with other components is necessary. However, there has not been sufficient research conducted on junctions. In this study, regardless of the electrode shape, in the range of 4.0 ~ 8.0 kA welding current, the same welding force and welding time were applied which were 2.8 kN and 200 m/s (12 cycles) and the tensile shear load and nugget size were analyzed after the resistance spot welding between different materials of laminated damping steel with a thickness of 1.035 mm. The results show that in the range of 5 ~ 8 kA welding current, 1.035 mm laminated damping steel meets the MS181-15 standard, which is the technical standard of Hyundai-Kia Motors.

For manufacturing modern cars, so-called multi-materials, such as aluminum alloy with high-strength steels, are used. For obtaining such materials, a new joining method is required to achieve the multi-material design. Mechanical clinching is one of joining methods used to join the dissimilar materials. The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of mechanical clinching of Al5052 alloy to high-strength steels (SPFC440, 590, 780). Using FE-analysis and clinching experiment, the joinability of Al5052 alloy to high-strength steel is evaluated by geometrical shape of mechanical clinched joint, such as neck-thickness and undercut. Further, the joint strength is evaluated by performing a single-lap shear test. The upper high-strength steel SPFC780 was not clinched because of the necking of the upper sheet. The joint strength increased with increasing strength of the upper sheet. For the lower high-strength steel sheet, the joinability and joint strength decreased with increasing strength of the lower sheet.
Crack-free joining of $Si_3N_4\;and\;Al_2O_3$ using 15 layers has been achieved by a unique approach introducing Sialon polytypoids as a functionally graded materials (FGMs) bonding layer. In the past, hot press sintering of multilayered FGMs with 20 layers of thickness $500{\mu}m$ each has been fabricated successfully. In this study, the number of layers for FGM was reduced to 15 layers from 20 layers for optimization. For fabrication, model was hot pressed at 38 MPa while heating up to $1700^{\circ}$, and it was cooled at $2^{\circ}$/min to minimize residual stress during sintering. Initially, FGM with 15 layers had cracks near 90 wt.% 12H / 10 wt.% $Al_2O_3$ and 90 wt.% 12H/10 wt.% $Si_3N_4$ layers. To solve this problem, FEM (finite element method) program based on the maximum tensile stress theory was applied to design optimized FGM layers of crack free joint. The sample is 3-dimensional cylindrical shape where this has been transformed to 2-dimensional axisymmetric mode. Based on the simulation, crack-free FGM sample was obtained by designing axial, hoop and radial stresses less than tensile strength values across all the layers of FGM. Therefore, we were able to predict and prevent the damage by calculating its thermal stress using its elastic modulus and coefficient of thermal expansion. Such analyses are especially useful for FGM samples where the residual stresses are very difficult to measure experimentally.

Asphalt-based waterproofing materials for bridge decks face issues such as softening or liquefaction of the material during the process of pouring hot asphalt concrete on top of the waterproofing layer. This leads to instability and reduced thickness of the waterproofing layer. To address these problems, new solutions beyond the existing materials, including the development and adoption of new materials, are required. Therefore, this study investigates the properties of MMA(Methyl Methacrylate) coating waterproofing material, which meets the basic physical properties for bridge deck waterproofing. We examined the overall quality standards in a system where the substrate concrete, waterproofing material, and paving layer are integrated. The study confirmed the applicability of MMA coating waterproofing material on bridge decks. The results indicate that a stable application of MMA coating waterproofing material for civil engineering structures' bridge decks can be achieved with a mix ratio of hard MMA resin : soft MMA resin : powder = 6 : 34 : 60. Additionally, when using emulsified asphalt with hardening characteristics for the adhesion between the dissimilar materials of MMA waterproofing and asphalt concrete, it is expected to meet the minimum quality standards of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's 'Guidelines for Asphalt Concrete Pavement Construction (2021.07)'.
