  • In this paper, we proposed the novel device and process design to enhance the uniformity of low-temperature poly-Si TFTs fabricated by sequential lateral solidification (SLS). The proposed design schemes can avert the conventional two-shot SLS process-induced issues. Moreover, different design considerations between conventional excimer laser crystallization and the SLS process were also proposed and discussed.

  • We will report the latest developments in light emitting polymer (LEP) systems developed at CDT. Device performance for spin coated and ink jet printed systems will be described which are state-of-the-art. We will also report on novel driving schemes for both active and passive addressed LEP displays. These drive schemes extend system lifetime as well as lowering power consumption.

  • We have developed the LCD Simulator, which is called "ProLCD", in order to reduce time and efforts for the design and analysis of LCDs. We describe the numerical models implementing the computation of LC directors and electro-optics, the graphic user interface and the visualization modules. Many applications show that ProLCD is a very useful, interactive design tool with good reliability.

  • In the present study, flexible display technology, which has attracted significant attention in recent years, is discussed. The technology has been widely applied to various devices, such as foldable smartphones and rollable TVs. Notably, different flexible display types from LCD to OLED and E-paper have been employed to implement such devices in practice. Among them, the OLED technology has thus far led the flexible display market. In the present study, the concept and current application fields of the technology are analyzed, and further its potential applications are discussed.

  • In this paper, we investigated influence of gas pressure and gas mixing ratio on the abnormal discharge characteristics of fluorescent lamp. Abnormal discharge characteristics have been examined by changing inner gas pressure and mixing ratio. As the inner gas pressure and mixing ratio increase, the occurrence of abnormal discharge was delayed. It was found out that the occurrence of abnormal discharge is sufficiently delayed at the optimized inner gas pressure and mixing ratio.

  • The capacitance-temperature (C-T) measurement technique is proposed in the present work to investigate the thermal stability of organic and polymeric thin films for organic electroluminescent display (OELD). The single layer devices with the individual materials were subjected to the C-T measurement, prior to the examination of the complete OELD. The single layer devices with the small molecules destroyed below $180\;^{\circ}C$ depending on the kinds of materials. However, the device with the hole-transporting polyimide did not show any relaxation up to $200\;^{\circ}C$. The small molecule based OELDs failed to emit light after annealing, whereas that with the hole-transporting polyimide worked well in spite of large reduction in intensity.

  • We evaluated a-Si:H TFTs fabricated on polyimide substrate (PI) at the highest temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ with uniaxial and tensile strain to imitate flexible display. With tensile strain, the threshold voltage of a-Si:H TFTs have positive shift due to extra dangling bond formation in a-Si:H layer. However, no significant degradation of the subthreshold swing and effective mobility with tensile strain of a-Si:H TFTs indicates the similar level of band tail state. The metal wire with the width of $10\;{\mu}m$ for connection on flexible substrate can sustain with curvature radius 2.5 cm.

  • A new high contrast LCD structure for TN mode TFT-LCD, of which the contrast ratio is 1.2 times hi gher than that of the conventional one, has been developed. The contrast ratio of TFT-LCD display can be improved by some modified materials, which like as polarizer, liquid crystal, color filter and light enhancement film. In order to know which condition can get the major contribution for the upgrade of the contrast ratio, we used Taguchi method and analyzed the contribution ratio for each composition and succeed to build up the formula of contrast ratio. From this study, we could achieve the highest CR value as 1200:1 of TN mod e TFT-LCD nowadays.

  • Bottom-gate microcrystalline silicon thin film transistors (${\mu}c$-Si:H TFTs) were fabricated on glass and transparent polyimide substrates by conventional 13.56 MHz RF plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at $200^{\circ}C$. The deposition rate of the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film is 24 nm/min and the amorphous incubation layer near the ${\mu}c$-Si:H/silicon nitride interface is unobvious. The threshold voltage of ${\mu}c$-Si:H TFTs can be improved by $H_2$ or $NH_3$ plasma pretreatment silicon nitride film.
