  • The performance-art costume is a tool for expression that can dynamically display the intention of a production. The purpose of this study is to examine the whole costume for performance arts targeting musical works, to which were added such elements as music, dance, and drama, among performance arts in several genres. This study aims to consider how the symbol contained in the costume was intended to be expressed by inferring a change in performance costume and character as the stage costume. Accordingly, the following research problems were established in this study. First, Which role does the costume play in performance art? Second, into which types can the performance-art costume be classified depending on the kind of performance art? Third, what is the expressive method for the performance-art costume? To examine the types of performance-art costume, the acting costume, the singing costume, the dancing costume and the rhythmic performance costume were considered. As a result, the performance costume can be seen to have been designed through the effect of a change in color by lighting, through the differentiation of character caused by excessive decoration, through the differentiation in material for free movement, and through symbolic expression.

  • This study proposes controller with voltage-compensated drivers for producing gray-scaled pictures on passive matrix organic light emitting diodes (PMOLEDs) panels. The controller includes voltage type drivers so the output impedance of the driver is far less than that of the current-type driver. Its low output impedance provides better electron-optical properties than those of traditional current drivers. A free running clock and a group of counters are applied to the gray-scaled function so that phase lock loop (PLL) circuit can be reduced in the controller. A pre-charge function is used to enhance performance of the luminance of an active OLED pixel. As a result, distribution of the low gray level portion is achieved linear relationship with input data. In this work, the digital part of the proposed controller is implemented using FPGA chips, and analog parts are combined with a digital-analog converter (DAC) and analog switches. A still image is displayed on a $48^{\ast}64$ PMOLEDs panel to assess the luminance performance fir the controller. Based on its cost requirement and luminance performance, the controller is qualified to join the market for driving PMOLEDs panels.

  • Detecting defects on FPD (Flat Panel Display) color filter before the full panel is made is important to reduce the manufacturing cost. Among many types of defects, the low contrast blemish such as Suzi Mura is difficult to detect using standard CCD cameras. Even skilled inspectors in the inspection line can hardly identify such defects using bare eyes. To overcome this difficulty, point spectrometer has been used to analyze the spectrum to differentiate such defects from normal color filters. However, scanning ever increasing-size color filters by a point spectrometer takes too long time to be used in real production line. We propose a system using a spectral camera which can be viewed as a line scan camera composed of an array of point spectrometers. Three types of lighting system that exhibit different illumination spectrums are devised together with a calibration method of the proposed spectral camera system. To visualize the defect areas, various processing algorithms to identify and to enhance the small differences in spectrum between defective and normal areas are developed. Experiments shows 85% successful visualization. of real samples using the proposed system.

  • Augmented reality based on projection, called "Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR)", is a new technology that can produce immersive contents by overlapping virtuality and real-world environment. It has been paid attention as the next generation digital contents in media art and human-computer interaction (HCI). In this paper, we present a new methodology to evaluate the product appearance design more intuitively by means of SAR technique. The proposed method first projects the high-quality rendered image considering the optical property of materials onto the mock-up of a product. We also conduct a projector-camera calibration to compensate a color distortion according to a projector, a projection surface and environment lighting. The design evaluation methodology we propose offers more flexible and intuitive evaluation environment to a designer and user (evaluator) than previous methods that are performed via a digital display. At the end of this research, we have conducted a case study for designing and evaluating appearance design of an automobile.

  • This paper presents an external light evasion method that rectifies the problem of misrecognition due to external lighting. The fundamental concept underlying the proposed method involves recognition of the differences between two images and elimination of the desynchronized external light by synchronizing the image sensor and inner light source of the optical touch screen. A range of artificial indoor light sources and natural sunlight are assessed. The proposed system synchronizes with a Vertical Synchronization (VSYNC) signal and the light source drive signal of the image sensor. Therefore, it can display synchronized light of the acquired image through the image sensor and remove external light that is not from the light source. A subtraction operation is used to find the differences and the absolute value of the result is utilized; hence, the order is irrelevant. The resulting image, which displays only a touched blob on the touchscreen, was created after image processing for coordination recognition and was then supplied to a coordination extraction algorithm.

  • We developed highly efficient fluorescent dopants for full-color OLEDs. For blue, green and red OLEDs, current efficiencies of 8.7cd/A, 20.5 cd/A and 11.4 cd/A at $10mA/cm^2$ were achieved, respectively. Lifetime of the blue device was estimated to be 23,000hours at an initial luminance of $1,000cd/m^2$. Moreover, long lifetime over 100,000 hours was estimated in the green and red devices. Furthermore, we obtained a three-component white OLED by using these new fluorescent materials. This white OLED shows a current efficiency of 16.1cd/A with extrapolated lifetime over 70,000 hours at $1,000cd/m^2$, and more excellent color reproducibility for full-color displays with color filters and general lighting, compared to previous fluorescent white OLEDs.

  • All non-dopant white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) have been realized by using solid state highly fluorescent red bis(4-(N-(1- naphthyl)phenylamino)phenyl)fumaronitrile (NPAFN) and amorphous bipolar blue light-emitting 2-(4- diphenylamino)phenyl-5-(4-triphenylsilyl)phenyl- 1,3,4-oxadiazole (TPAOXD), together with well known green fluorophore tris(8- hydroxyquinolinato)aluminum $(Alq_3)$. The fabrication of multilayer WOLEDs did not involve the hard-tocontrol doping process. Two WOLEDs, Device I and II, different in layer thickness of $Alq_3$, 30 and 15 nm, respectively, emitted strong electroluminescence (EL) as intense as $25,000\;cd/m^2$. For practical solid state lighting application, EL intensity exceeding $1,000\;cd/m^2$ was achieved at current density of $18-19\;mA/cm^2$ or driving voltage of 6.5-8 V and the devices exhibited external quantum efficiency $({\eta}_{ext})$ of $2.6{\sim}2.9%$ corresponding to power efficiency $({\eta}_P)$ of $2.1{\sim}2.3\;lm/W$ at the required brightness.

  • Carbon nanotube -copper composite structures were fabricated using composite plating method and their field emission characteristics were investigated. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes synthesized by chemical vapor deposition were used in the present study. It was revealed that turn-on field of the structures was about 3.0 $V/{\mu}m$ at the current density of 0.1 ${\mu}A/cm^2$. We observed relatively uniform emission characteristics as well as stable emission currents. CNT-Cu composite plating method is efficient and it has no intrinsic limit on the plating area. Moreover, it gives strong adhesion between emitters and an electrode. The refore, we expect that CNT-Cu composite plating method can be applied to fabricate electron field emitters for large area FEDs and large area vacuum lighting sources.
