Study on the Fabrication and Characterization of Red-Light-Emitting Organic Electroluminescent Devices Using Europium Complexes

  • Organic electroluminescent devices (OELDs) have received a great deal of attention due to their potential application as full-color displays. Europium complexes are known as excellent red light-emitting materials for OELDs since they show intense photoluminescence at around 612 nm with a narrow spectral bandwidth. In this study, a novel europium complex, $Eu(TTA)_3(TPPO)$ was synthesized and its photoluminescent and electroluminescent characteristics were investigated with a device structure of ITO/TPD/$Eu(TTA)_3(TPPO)$/ $Alq_3$/Al, where sharp emission at the wavelength of 615 nm has been observed. Details on the electrical properties of these structures was also discussed.

  • 일반적인 PDP (Plasma display panel)용 전도성 저방출(low-e) 필터는 유리 기판 위에 굴절률이 높은 금속 산화물 유전체 박막과 Ag와 같은 귀금속 박막이 번갈아 쌓인 [유전체|금속(Ag)|유전체]가 기본 구조인 다층 박막의 형태로 개발되어 왔다. Ag는 가시광선 영역에서 다른 금속보다 작은 흡수를 보이고 전도성이 뛰어나 전자파 차페용 필터의 전도성 박막으로 널리 쓰인다. 그리고 이러한 구조에서 가시광선의 높은 투과율을 유지하면서 유해 전자기파를 차폐할 수 있도록 충분한 전도성을 갖추기 위해서는 2층 이상의 Ag 박막이 존재하도록 설계되며 유전체 박막과 금속 박막 사이에 1∼2 nm 정도의 매우 얇은 금속 보호 층을 사용한다.   • Lead-free bismuth-layered perovskite ferroelectric europium-substituted $Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}(BTO)$ thin films have been successfully deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by a sol-gel spin-coating process. $Bi(TMHD)_3,\;Eu(THMD)_3,\;Ti(OiPr)_4$ were used as the precursors, which were dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol. The thin films were annealed at various temperatures from $600^{\circ}\;to\;720^{\circ}C$ in oxygen ambient for 1 hr, which was followed by post-annealed for 1 hr after depositing a Pt electrode to enhance the electrical properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to analyze the crystallinity and surface morphology of layered perovskite phase, respectively. The remanent polarization value of the BET thin films annealed at $720^{\circ}C\;was\;25.95{\mu}C/cm^2$ at an applied voltage of 5 V.

  • Differential display of reverse transcription(DDRT)-PCR was conducted to have a profile of the differentially expressed genes during the formation of fruiting body of Lentinus edodes. The lines of L. edodes(ImHyup-1) employed were cultivated in the artificial blocks of sawdust, and the fruiting body was induced from the mycelia or the mass protruded from the brown surface of the sawdust blocks. RNAs were prepared from the four different developmental stages; mycelial, primordial, and stipes and pileus of fruiting body. The fragments of cDNA were synthesized from the combinations of the arbitrary primers and 3' one anchored Oligo-dT primer. Twelve combinations using the primers have been tested, and among them nineteen bands were identified as differentially expressed. Those genes were further analyzed by DNA sequencing and followed by homology search. Characterization of one clone was conducted as a preliminary data and more are under investigation.

  • The structural and optical properties on $Tb^{3+}$ addition into LiGd$(PO_3)_4$ compound were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The emission spectrum shows the strongest peak corresponding to the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition of $Tb^{3+}$ at 546 nm under 147 nm and 173 nm excitation. 85 mol% concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ for LiGd$(PO_3)_4$ is much higher than other Tb-doped phosphors.

  • High transmittance and low resistance index matched transparent conducting oxide (IMTCO) coated glass was prepared and characterized. IMTCO was deposited by RF magnetron sputtering with the thickness of 15nm and 90nm thick anti-reflection layer was evaporated. To modify surface to hydrophilic, in-situ plasma treatment was also performed. IMTCO coated glass exhibited 96.6% of transmittance in the wavelength range of 400~700nm which is relatively high value compared to commercially available IMTCO glass. The sheet resistance uniformity was measured to be 1.53%.

  • A series of new light-emitting random copolymers with fully conjugated structure was prepared, for the first time through the well-known Gilch polymerization between 1,4-bis(chloromethyl)-2-ethylhexyloxy-5-methoxybenzene and 2,5-bis(bromomethyl)thiophene monomers in different ratios. The synthesized polymers (on thin film) showed the maximum wavelength of UV-visible absorbance and photoluminescence (PL) near 500 nm and near 600 nm, respectively. A single-layer light-emitting diode device, which has a simple ITO (indium-tin oxide)/polymer/Al configuration, was fabricated by spin-coating of polymers and then vacuum evaporation of Al metal. The threshold bias of PMEHPVTVs was in the range of 3.5-10 V. As in the PL spectra, the maximum wavelength of light emission near 600 nm was also shown in electroluminescence (EL) spectra of PMEHPVTVs when the operating voltage was about 7 - 14 V.

  • Six azomethine polymers containing bent-core mesogen were synthesized with variation of a bent structure of central core (1,2-dioxyphenylene or 2,3-dioxynaphthylene), and a lateral halogen substituent (X = H, F or Cl ). The properties of the polymers were characterized by FT-IR, NMR spectroscopy, DSC, polarizing optical microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry.

  • Novel blue materials based on anthracene derivatives were synthesized by Grignard reaction, the Suziki coupling reaction, etc. They showed excellent thermal stability and emitted bright blue light, which will been used for OLED and expected to obtain high efficiency and good color purity.

  • Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using organic semiconductors as an active layer are of interest for their use in low-cost, lightweight and flexible electronic products. Although the field-effect mobility of OTFTs is still lower than those of inorganic thin-film transistor, the advantages of easy manufacturing and processing make them suitable for selected applications. In this paper, we report the syntheses and characterization of new p-type OTFT materials.
