We present the results of an H I aperture synthesis mosaic of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), made by combining data from 1344 separate pointing centers using the Australia Telescope Compact' Array (ATCA) and the Parkes multibeam receiver. The resolution of the mosaiced images is 50" (<15 pc, using a distance to the LMC of 55kpc). This mosaic, with a spatial resolution .15 times higher than that which had been previously obtained, emphasises the turbulent and fractal structure of the ISM on the small scale, resulting from the dynamical feedback of the star formation processes with the ISM. We also have done a widefield panoramic survey of H$\alpha$ emission from the Magellanic Clouds with an imager mounted on the 16-inch telescope at Siding Spring Observatory. This survey produced H$\alpha$ images which are equal to the ATCA survey in area coverage and resolution. This survey allows us to produce a continuum-subtracted image of the entire LMC. In contrast with its appearance in the H$\alpha$ image, the LMC is remarkably symmetric in H I on the largest scales, with the bulk of the H I residing in a disk of diameter 8. $^{\circ}4$ (7.3 kpc) and a spiral structure is clearly seen. The structure of the neutral atomic ISM in the LMC is dominated by H I filaments combined with numerous shells and holes.

This paper proposes small VCM(voice coil motor) type, auto-focusing and zoom actuators for mobile information devices. In order to meet the large output displacement within small height restriction, the proposed auto-focusing actuator adopts curved suspensions, which are similar to a leaf-spring type suspension of optical disk drives. The sensitivity of design parameters on output displacement and dynamic performance is implemented using ANSYS (3D FEM tool) to determine the optimal geometry and stiffness of the curved suspensions. This paper also investigates a new zoom actuator without a suspension supporting a bobbin. The zoom actuator uses a moving rail and a stoper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. Magnetic flux density of the zoom actuator are calculated by both the FEM and permeance method. Experiments using prototypes of the proposed focusing and zoom models show that both actuators meet the required displacement and performance.
This study was undertaken to assess the annual cycle of primary production and plant pigments in a downstream of the Han River. Measurements were carried out at three week intervals during April 1966 and March 1967, and ancillary data include water temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen and phytoplankton cell number. The seasonal cycle in water temperature profile shows the hihgest in the end of August with 27$^{\circ}C$, lowest in the middle of February with 0.2$^{\circ}C$. The transparency with Secchi disk reading varied from a maximum 4.0m in fall and a minimum 0.5m or less in early spring and flood season of summer. The pH of the river water varied from 6.5 to 7.3, averaged 6.91 in the surface water and 6.98 in the bottom water, showed little seasonalvariability. The dissolved oxygen in the surface water ranged from 5.93-9.64ml/L, while in the bottom water it ranged from 5.54-9.72 ml/L, and the oxygen saturation never fall below 94%. None thermal, the distribution of pH and content of oxygen, stratifications occurred. An apparent seasonal cycle of primary productivity was observed with remarkably high levels in the spring and fall, the lowest level in the winter. The range of net carbon assimilations showed 3.1-112.6 mgC/㎥/day or 15-427 mgC/㎡/day in spring, 37.0-271.2 mgC/㎥/day or 115-329 mgC/㎡/day in summer, 27.2-168.0 mgC/㎥ /day or 139-415 mgC/㎡/day in fall and 0.5-10.9 mgC/㎥/day or 5-19 mg/㎡/day in winter, respectively. Amount of chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ ranged from a minimum concentration of 0.2-0.3 mg/㎥ in the middle of February and a maximum 4.1-6.7 mg/㎥ in the middle of June. A general increase trend in chlorophyll ${\alpha}$ concentration was noted with increase of the river water temperature.

According to the structure, solenoid valve can be categorized as spool valve or poppet valve. While various research on spool valve which has simple structure and fine susceptibility to contamination has been conducted, poppet valve which has less susceptibility to contamination and advantage in a long time operation still need much research because of its complicated structure. In order to design the poppet valve, various parameters such as the diameter of the poppet, the angle of the poppet, the diameter of the disk, the spring stiffness, the spring preload and flow path structure should be considered. Conventional studies on poppet valve usually take only one design parameters and did not much focused on the effect of the parameters on flow characteristics. In this paper, the change of the flow characteristics according to the design parameters of the poppet valve for 3/2Way solenoid valve is analyzed. The previous studies and the results of initial model analysis was referred for the selection of the design parameters. The effects of design parameters on maximum pressure, minimum pressure, and pressure drop was examined using analysis of means(ANOM).
Pollutants removal efficiency in pretreatment(GAC filter, multi-media filter, disk filter) and RO facilities was investigated for the Jeju Samyang spring water source where raw water intake has been stopped due to sea water intrusion. In addition, preliminary feasibility analysis was conducted between RO and groundwater intake systems. Turbidity removal in 4 different pretreatment processes was less than 25% due to low concentration of turbidity(i.e., less than 0.21 NTU), while multi-media filter is recommended for the pretreatment facility based on the low organic content in raw water as well as cheaper operation and maintenance cost. The average concentration of $Cl^-$ in raw water was 691.4 mg/L, while that of RO permeate was 9.1 mg/L(i.e., removal efficiency was 98.4%). In addition, TDS removal efficiency was 98.1%, which was quite high. The production cost for RO system($Q=4,000m^3/d$) was $362.1won/m^3$ considering installation, operation and maintenance cost for 30 years. While that of groundwater was $262.6won/m^3$ which was low compared to the RO system. However, it is recommended to introduce RO system for Samyang water source rather than new groundwater development because Samyang water source has been discharged to the sea without any usage, while groundwater can be used for other purpose as a sustainable water source.

Hot-stamping is a method of obtaining ultrahigh-strength steel by simultaneously forming and cooling boron steel in a press die after it has been heated at $900^{\circ}C$ or above. After heat treatment, boron steel has a strength of 1500 MPa or more. This material ensures a high level of quality because it overcomes the spring-back phenomenon, which is a problem associated with high-strength steel materials, and the degree of dimensional precision is improved by 90 or more because of the good formability compared with existing types of steel. In this study, the welding characteristics were identified through the butt and lap welding of hot-stamped steel using a disk laser. Full penetration was obtained at a faster speed with butt welding compared to lap welding, and a white band was observed in every specimen.

We collected AIS information on fishing vessels operating near Jeju Island, and analyzed appearance density of the Chinese fishing vessels and inferred the movements of the fishing grounds. AIS information was received from October 16, 2016 to October 16, 2017 and stored on a hard disk through a program called AisDecoder. Unauthorized fishing vessels within the Exclusive Fisheries Agreement Zone (EFAZ) operated near the EFAZ boundary, and the frequency of appearance of fishing vessels were high in the middle waters of Korea and Japan, 252 and 250 fishing zones. Chinese fishing vessels authorized to enter appeared scattered outside the Prohibiting Fishing Zone of the Large Trawlers (PFZLT), and the closer they were to the PFZLT boundary, the higher the appearance density. And the appearance of Chinese fishing vessels with a speed from 0 to 3 knots was mostly outside the EFAZ, showing high density in the waters close to the boundary between Korea and Japan. On the other hand, within the EFAZ, the frequency of appearance of Chinese fishing vessels was also low and scattered. The appearance of Chinese fishing vessels with a speed from 3 to 5 knots mostly shows some variability within the EFAZ, but the frequency of appearance was high and the density was high. The seasonal appearance of Chinese fishing vessels in the waters south of Jeju Island appeared in the southwest in the autumn and then moved south and southeast of Jeju Island in the winter, and in the spring and summer. They were considered going to other fishing grounds without fishing in the waters south of Jeju Island.
A black scab disease occurred on sword bean (Canavalia gladiata) in plastic film houses around Chinju area during the spring season of 1999. The disease started from flower bud, then moved to flower stalk, pod, petiole, cirrus, stem and leaves. The lesions started with small dark brown spots then were gradually expanded. Severely infected plants reached 37.4% of whole plant covered with scab. Numerous conidia were produced on the diseased flower disk, pod, floral axis, stem and leaves. Most of the conidia were appeared to be readily dispersed in the air, but the mycelia were not suggested causing of sooty mold by ectoparasitism. A fungus was isolated from the diseased stem, and inoculated to healthy plants to satisfy the Koch's postulates and proved the fungus was the causal agent of the disease. The isolated fungus grew on potato dextrose agar, forming greenish black to pale brown colonies. Conidia were ellipsoidal, fusiform or subspherical, mostly one-celled but occasionally septated. The conidia were $3.9{\sim}34.1{\times}2.7{\sim}5.1\;{\mu}m$ in size and formed in long branched chains on the erected conidiophores which were pale olivaceous brown and variable in length between $7.2{\sim}210.7\;{\mu}m$ in size. Ramoconidia were $7.6{\sim}29.2{\times}3.2{\sim}14.4\;{\mu}m$ in size. The fungus was identified as Cladosporium cucumerinum based on the above morphological characteristics. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth and conidial formation was about 15 to $25^{\circ}C$. Cladosporium scab of sword bean caused by the fungi has not been reported in Korea previously.
This study analyzes the thermal effects on the performance of an air foil thrust bearing (AFTB) using COMSOL Multiphysics to approximate actual bearing behavior under real conditions. An AFTB is a sliding-thrust bearing that uses air as a lubricant to support the axial load. The AFTB consists of top and bump foils and supports the rotating disk through the hydrodynamic pressure generated by the wedge effect from the inclined surface of the top foil and the elastic deformation of the bump foils, similar to a spring. The use of air as a lubricant has some advantages such as low friction loss and less heat generation, enabling air bearings to be widely used in high-speed rotating systems. However, even in AFTB, the effects of energy loss due to viscosity at high speeds, interface frictional heat, and thermal deformation of the foil caused by temperature increase cannot be ignored. Foil deformation derived from the thermal effect influences the minimum decay in film thickness and enhances the film pressure. For these reasons, performance analyses of isothermal AFTBs have shown few discrepancies with real bearing behavior. To account for this phenomenon, a thermal-fluid-structure analysis is conducted to describe the combined mechanics. Results show that the load capacity under the thermal effect is slightly higher than that obtained from isothermal analysis. In addition, the push and pull effects on the top foil and bump foil-free edges can be simulated. The differences between the isothermal and thermal behaviors are discussed.
The nature of distant faint blue field galaxies remains a mystery, despite the fact that much attention has been devoted to this subject in the last decade. Galaxy counts, particularly those in the optical and near ultraviolet bandpasses, have been demonstrated to be well in excess of those expected in the 'no-evolution' scenario. This has usually been taken to imply that galaxies were brighter in the past, presumably due to a higher rate of star formation. More recently, redshift surveys of galaxies as faint as B$\~$24 have shown that the mean redshift of faint blue galaxies is lower than that predicted by standard evolutionary models (de-signed to fit the galaxy counts). The galaxy number count data and redshift data suggest that evolutionary effects are most prominent at the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function. While these data constrain the form of evolution of the overall luminosity function, they do not constrain evolution in individual galaxies. We are carrying out a series of observations as part of a long-term program aimed at a better understanding of the nature and amount of luminosity evolution in individual galaxies. Our study uses the luminosity-linewidth relation (Tully-Fisher relation) for disk galaxies as a tool to study luminosity evolution. Several studies of a related nature are being carried out by other groups. A specific experiment to test a 'no-evolution' hypothesis is presented here. We have used the AUTOFIB multifibre spectro-graph on the 4-metre Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) and the Rutgers Fabry-Perot imager on the Cerro Tolalo lnteramerican Observatory (CTIO) 4-metre tele-scope to measure the internal kinematics of a representative sample of faint blue field galaxies in the red-shift range z = 0.15-0.4. The emission line profiles of [OII] and [OIII] in a typical sample galaxy are significantly broader than the instrumental resolution (100-120 km $s^{-l}$), and it is possible to make a reliable de-termination of the linewidth. Detailed and realistic simulations based on the properties of nearby, low-luminosity spirals are used to convert the measured linewidth into an estimate of the characteristic rotation speed, making statistical corrections for the effects of inclination, non-uniform distribution of ionized gas, rotation curve shape, finite fibre aperture, etc.. The (corrected) mean characteristic rotation speed for our distant galaxy sample is compared to the mean rotation speed of local galaxies of comparable blue luminosity and colour. The typical galaxy in our distant sample has a B-band luminosity of about 0.25 L$\ast$ and a colour that corresponds to the Sb-Sd/Im range of Hub-ble types. Details of the AUTOFIB fibre spectroscopic study are described by Rix et al. (1996). Follow-up deep near infrared imaging with the 10-metre Keck tele-scope+ NIRC combination and high angular resolution imaging with the Hubble Space Telescope's WFPC2 are being used to determine the structural and orientation parameters of galaxies on an individual basis. This information is being combined with the spatially resolved CTIO Fabry-Perot data to study the internal kinematics of distant galaxies (Ing et al. 1996). The two main questions addressed by these (preliminary studies) are: 1. Do galaxies of a given luminosity and colour have the same characteristic rotation speed in the distant and local Universe? The distant galaxies in our AUTOFIB sample have a mean characteristic rotation speed of $\~$70 km $s^{-l}$ after correction for measurement bias (Fig. 1); this is inconsistent with the characteristic rotation speed of local galaxies of comparable photometric proper-ties (105 km $s^{-l}$) at the > $99\%$ significance level (Fig. 2). A straightforward explanation for this discrepancy is that faint blue galaxies were about 1-1.5 mag brighter (in the B band) at z $\~$ 0.25 than their present-day counterparts. 2. What is the nature of the internal kinematics of faint field galaxies? The linewidths of these faint galaxies appear to be dominated by the global disk rotation. The larger galaxies in our sample are about 2"-.5" in diameter so one can get direct insight into the nature of their internal velocity field from the $\~$ I" seeing CTIO Fabry-Perot data. A montage of Fabry-Perot data is shown in Fig. 3. The linewidths are too large (by. $5\sigma$) to be caused by turbulence in giant HII regions.
