Long-Term Variation of the Spin Period of a Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable, MU Camelopardalis

  • Results of an analysis of 11 nights of R-filter CCD photometry data of an intermediate polar MU Camelopardalis (MU Cam) obtained at the Korean 1.0 m telescope at Mt. Lemmon are reported. After checking the spin period with our data, $P_{spin}=0.^d01373801(59)$, we compiled the reported data of maxima timing and an O-C diagram analysis has been carried out to understand the spin period variation. A significant spin period variation was detected, and fitting the O-C points to a cubic parabola led to an ephemeris of $BJD_{max}=2453682.4178(94)+0.0137380(13)E-2.07(55){\times}10^{-11}E^2+2.28(52){\times}10^{-15}E^3$. The torque experienced by the magnetic compact star accreting in a disk is estimated as ${\tau}{\approx}1.815{\times}10^{35}gcm^2/s^2$ in a simple approximation in order to show how important monitoring the period variation is. Thus we conclude that monitoring the long-term spin period variation will help to understand the physical condition of magnetic compact stars.

  • Microscopic examination of the morphology of wear debris is an accepted method for machine condition and fault diagnosis. However wear particle analysis has not been widely accepted in industry because it is dependent on expert interpretation of particle morphology and subjective assessment criteria. This paper was undertaken to analyze the morphology of wear debris for machine condition diagnosis of the lubricated moving surfaces by image processing and analysis. The lubricating wear test was performed under different sliding conditions using a wear test device made in our laboratory and wear testing specimen of the pin-on-disk-type was rubbed in paraffine series base oil. In order to describe characteristics of debris of various shape and size, four shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) have been developed and outlined in the paper. A system using such techniques promises to obviate the need for subjective, human interpretation of particle morphology in machine condition monitoring, thus to overcome many of the difficulties in current methods and to facilitate wider use of wear particle analysis in machine condition monitoring.

High-resolution Optical and Near-infrared Monitoring Observations of 2MASS J06593158-0405277

  • We present the results of high-resolution optical (R ~ 30,000) and near-infrared (R ~ 45,000) spectroscopic monitoring observations of a new FU Orionis-like young stellar object, 2MASS J06593158-0405277. FU Orionis objects (FUors) are well-studied examples of episodic accretion because of their outburst phenomenon. Recently, 2MASS J06593158-0405277 exhibited an outburst and was identified as a FUor. It provides an important opportunity to investigate the whole FUors phenomenon from its pre-outburst to its post-outburst phase. We monitored 2MASS J06593158-0405277 with the BOES and the IGRINS since Dec 25, 2014 (UT). We detected several wind and disk features and present here our analysis for time variations of those spectral lines.

  • 저장 장치의 대용량화가 가속화되면서 SAN에 대한 활용이 증가되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 SAN 클러스터에 존재하는 장치 및 미디어를 통해 테이프 및 디스크 백업을 지원하기 위한 백업 시스템 모듈을 설계하고 구현한다. 개발하는 백업 시스템은 SAN 클러스터에 존재하는 다수의 장치 및 미디어를 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 장치 및 미디어 관리 기능을 제공한다. 클라이언트에 의해 요청되는 부가적인 작업을 처리할 수 있도록 스크립트 관리 기능을 제공하며 수행 중인 작업을 제어하고 관리할 수 있는 모니터링 기능을 제공한다. 또한, 클라이언트에게 백업과 복구에 대한 정보를 제공하기 위해 리포팅 기능을 제공한다.

The Color Variability Monitoring of HBC722

  • We present the results of SDSS r, i and z band photometry for HBC722 (also known as $LkH{\alpha}$ 188 G4, PTF10qpf and V2493 Cyg), with Camera for Quasars in Early uNiverse (CQUEAN) attached to 2.1m Otto Struve telescope at McDonald Observatory, USA. HBC722 is a newly erupted FU Orionis type object, which produced optical outburst (${\Delta}V$=4.7 mag) over a year that peaked in 2010 September. We carried out the monitoring observations during 48 nights from 2011 April to 2012 June to check the short-term and the long-term variabilities for chasing the Keplerian rotation of the system. Comparing the photometric results of r, i and z band, we describe the color variability which is related to the physical properties of the system like circumstellar disk and accretion process.

  • Data-Acquisition systems are widely used in Photovoltaic(PV) system application in order to analyze and optimize the performance of PV systems. In this paper, the development of a computer-based data-acquisition system and its application are described. The proposed Computer-based data-acquisition System consists of a set of sensors for measuring both environmental and electrical parameters. The collected data are first conditioned and then interfaced to PC using a data-acquisition card. The Labview program was used to further process, display on the monitor at real time and store on the hard disk. We designed and installed two stand-alone PV systems to supply different loads, which in this case a Low Pressure Sodium(LPS) 55 [W] lamp and a electrodless 55 [W] lamp. When the proposed data acquisition system is applied on the designed PV systems, Optimized system operation methods are investigated to confirm a stable load availability and extend battery life time.

  • 한국천문연구원에서 개발 중인 근적외선카메라 KASINICS(KASI Near Infrared Camera System)의 운용을 위한 온도 진공 모니터 시스템을 개발하였다. 이 시스템은 하드웨어 부분과 소프트웨어 부분으로 나누어지며, 온도와 진공도의 측정자료를 실시간으로 PC에서 출력하고 저장할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 이 시스템은 KASINICS와 같은 적외선카메라뿐만 아니라 극저온 냉각을 요하는 모든 장치에 적용할 수 있다. 우리는 KASINICS의 냉각 및 진공 시험을 수행하면서 우리가 개발한 모니터 시스템이 적외선카메라의 시험과 운용에 있어서 효율적이고 안정적이라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 오늘날의 내장형 이동 시스템은 MP3플레이어나 디지털 캠코더와 같이 하나의 기능만을 지원했던 단일 응용프로그램 시스템에서 PMP(Portable Multimedia Player), PDA(Personal Digital Assistants)와 같이 MPEG, W3플레이어, 전자사전, DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), 게임, 통신 기능 등을 모두 포함하는 하나의 디지털 컨버전스 기기로 변화해가고 있다. 이러한 변화는 CPU 성능 향상과 메모리, 저장장치의 증가, LCD의 크기 증가와 같은 하드웨어적인 요구사항의 증가로 이어졌고, 이로 인해 단말기에서 소모하는 전력이 그에 비례하여 증가하였다. 소모 전력의 증가에 따른 배터리 용량의 증가는 더딘 상황이며, 이를 해결하기 위해 소프트웨어적으로 소모 전력을 감축시키는 연구들이 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 소모 전력 감축 기법이 적용된 실시간 운영체제 UbiFOSTM을 ARM9계열의 MBA2440에 탑재하였다. 전력 감축 기법으로 시스템 작업량 관찰에 기반한 동적 전력 관리 기법과 장치 전력 관리기법을 적용하였다. 본 논문의 저전력 기법을 통해 작업량에 따라 24% 이상의 소모 전력 감축효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

아날로그 뇌파기를 응용한 간단한 디지털 뇌파 시스템 (Simple Digital EEG System Utilizing Analog EEG Machine)

  • Purpose : The rapid development and wide popularity of Digital EEG(DEEG) is due to its convenience, accuracy and applicability for quantitative analysis. These advantages of DEEG make one hesitate to use analog EEG(AEEG). To assess the advantage of DEEG system utilizing AEEG(DAEEG) over conventional AEEG and the clinical applicability, a DAEEG system was developed and applied to animal model Methods : Sprague-Dawley rat as status epilepticus model were used for collecting the EEG data. After four epidural electrodes were inserted and connected to 8-channel analog EEG(Nihon-Kohden, Japan), continous. EEG monitoring via computer screen was done from two rats simultaneously. EEG signals through analog amplifier and filters were digitized at digital signal processor and stored in Windows-based pentium personal computer. Digital data were sampled at a rate of 200 Hz and 12 bit of resolution. Acquisition software was able to carry out 'real-time view, sensitivity control and event marking' during continuous EEG monitoring. Digital data were stored on hard disk and hacked-up on CD-ROM for off-line review. Review system consisted of off-line review, saving and printing out interesting segment and annotation function. Results: This DAEEG system could utilize most major functions of DEEG sufficiently while making a use of an AEEG. It was easy to monitor continuously compared to Conventional AEEG and to control sensitivity during ictal period. Marking the event such as a clinical seizure or drug injection was less favorable than AEEG due to slowed processing speed of digital processor and central processing unit. Reviewing EEG data was convenient, but paging speed was slow. Storage and management of data was handy and economical. Conclusion : Relatively simple digital EEG system utilizing AEEG can be set-up at n laboratory level. It may be possible to make an application for clinical purposes.

DEVELOPMENT OF WEB-DOWNLOADING SYSTEM ON WWW

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARl) has been receiving Terra and Aqua MODIS data at ground station of Daejeon since July 2002. MODIS data can cover whole East Asia including the Korean Peninsula, Japan and The East China each almost scene and is monitoring ocean, atmosphere and land. By this time, over two thousand scenes have been archived including Terra and Aqua in the storage system and they occupied about over 10TB of disk space. In this study, Web-Downloading system of MODIS data developed on WWW is including following main functions: spectral subset (250m, 500m, 1000m chnnels) Level 1B data of HDF format, result display, ftp download and statistic viewer etc. Users using this system can directly download MODIS data on WWW with a few input parameters. This system is available via the Internet URL after October 2005 on the following, 'http://webmodis.kari.re.kr/'
