  • Early detection and classification of crop diseases play significant role to help farmers to reduce disease spread and to increase agricultural productivity. Recently, many researchers have used deep learning techniques like convolutional neural network (CNN) classifier for crop disease inspection with dataset of crop leaf images (e.g., PlantVillage dataset). These researches present over 90% of classification accuracy for crop diseases, but they have ability to detect only the pre-trained diseases. This paper proposes an efficient disease inspection CNN model for new crops not used in the pre-trained model. First, we present a benchmark crop disease classifier (CDC) for the crops in PlantVillage dataset using VGG16. Then we build a modified crop disease classifier (mCDC) to inspect diseases for untrained crops. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed model outperforms the benchmark classifier.

  • The electrical current generated by heart creates not only electric potential but also a magnetic field. In this study, the signals obtained magnetocardiogram(MCG) using 61 channel superconducting quantum interference device(SQUID) system, and the clinical significance of various feature parameters has been developed MCG. Neural network algorithm was used to perform the classification of ischemic heart disease. The MCG signal was obtained to facilitate the extraction of parameters through a process of pre-processing. The data used to research the normal group 10 and ischemic heart disease group 10 with visible signs of stable angina patients. The available clinical indicators were extracted by characteristic point, characteristic interval parameter, and amplitude ratio parameter. The extracted parameters are determined to analysis the significance and clinical parameters were defined. It is possible to classify ischemic heart disease using the MCG feature parameters as a neural network input.

  • Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common type of chronic liver disease, with severity levels ranging from nonalcoholic fatty liver to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The extent of liver fibrosis indicates the severity of NASH and the risk of liver cancer. However, the mechanism underlying NASH development, which is important for early screening and intervention, remains unclear. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) is a useful method for identifying hub genes and screening specific targets for diseases. In this study, we utilized an mRNA dataset of the liver tissues of patients with NASH and conducted WGCNA for various stages of liver fibrosis. Subsequently, we employed two additional mRNA datasets for validation purposes. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was conducted to analyze gene function enrichment. Through WGCNA and subsequent analyses, complemented by validation using two additional datasets, we identified five genes (BICC1, C7, EFEMP1, LUM, and STMN2) as hub genes. GSEA analysis indicated that gene sets associated with liver metabolism and cholesterol homeostasis were uniformly downregulated. BICC1, C7, EFEMP1, LUM, and STMN2 were identified as hub genes of NASH, and were all related to liver metabolism, NAFLD, NASH, and related diseases. These hub genes might serve as potential targets for the early screening and treatment of NASH.

  • HPAI(Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) is a contagious animal disease that spreads rapidly by diffusion after the first occurrence. The disease has brought tremendous social costs and economic losses. KAHIS (Korea Animal Health Information System) is the integrated system for supporting the task of preventing epidemics. They provide decision-support information, recording vehicle visiting times and facility location, etc., which is possible by enforcing registration of all livestock related facilities and vehicles. KAHIS has accumulated spatial and temporal information that enables effective tracing of potential disease trajectories and diffusion through vehicle movements. The contact network is created utilizing spatial and temporal information in KAHIS to inform facility connection via vehicle visitation. Based on the contact network, it is possible to infer spatial and temporal mechanism of disease spread and diffusion. The study objective is to empirically demonstrate how to utilize primary spatial and temporal information in KAHIS in the form of the contact network. Based on the contact network, facilities with the possibility of infection can be pinpointed within the potential spatial and temporal extent where the disease has spread and diffused. This aids the decision-making process in the task of preventing epidemics. By interpreting our demonstration results, policy implications were presented. Finally, some suggestions were made to comprehensively utilize the contact network to draw enhanced decision-support information.

  • The current progression in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML) based technologies converted the traditional healthcare system into a smart healthcare system. The incorporation of IoT and ML has changed the way of treating patients and offers lots of opportunities in the healthcare domain. In this view, this research article presents a new IoT and ML-based disease diagnosis model for the diagnosis of different diseases. In the proposed model, vital signs are collected via IoT-based smart medical devices, and the analysis is done by using different data mining techniques for detecting the possibility of risk in people's health status. Recommendations are made based on the results generated by different data mining techniques, for high-risk patients, an emergency alert will be generated to healthcare service providers and family members. Implementation of this model is done on Anaconda Jupyter notebook by using different Python libraries in it. The result states that among all data mining techniques, SVM achieved the highest accuracy of 0.897 on the same dataset for classification of Parkinson's disease.

  • Despite global medical advancements, many patients are misdiagnosed, and more people are dying as a result. We must now develop techniques that provide the most accurate diagnosis of heart disease based on recorded data. To help immediate and accurate diagnose of heart disease, several data mining methods are accustomed to anticipating the disease. A large amount of clinical information offered data mining strategies to uncover the hidden pattern. This paper presents, comparison between different classification techniques, we applied on the same dataset to see what is the best. In the end, we found that the Random Forest algorithm had the best results.

  • Disease caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) is sweeping the globe. There are numerous methods for identifying this disease using a chest imaging. Computerized Tomography (CT) chest scans are used in this study to detect COVID-19 disease using a pretrain Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) ResNet50. This model is based on image dataset taken from two hospitals and used to identify Covid-19 illnesses. The pre-train CNN (ResNet50) architecture was used for feature extraction, and then fully connected layers were used for classification, yielding 97%, 96%, 96%, 96% for accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, respectively. When combining the feature extraction techniques with the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN), it produced accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores of 92.5%, 83%, 92%, and 87.3%. In our suggested approach, we use a preprocessing phase to improve accuracy. The image was enhanced using the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) algorithm, which was followed by cropping the image before feature extraction with ResNet50. Finally, a fully connected layer was added for classification, with results of 99.1%, 98.7%, 99%, 98.8% in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.
