  • Hiccups have more than 100 etiologies. The most common etiology has gastrointestinal origins, related mainly to gastric distention and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Intractable hiccups are rare but may present as a severe symptom of various diseases. Hiccups are mostly treated with non-invasive or pharmacological therapies. If these therapies fail, invasive methods should be used. Here, we present a patient on whom we performed a blockage of the phrenic nerve with the guidance of a nerve stimulator. The patient also had pneumothorax as a complication. Three hours after intervention, a tube thoracostomy was performed. One week later, the patient was cured and discharged from the hospital. In conclusion, a stimulator provides the benefit of localizing the phrenic nerve, which leads to diaphragmatic contractions. Patients with thin necks have more risk of pneumothorax during phrenic nerve location.

  • The study was performed to investigae the thickness of lamina dura of the human teeth in periodontal disease, which obtained from the intraoral roentgenograms of the 122 cases taken by bisecting technic. All films were divided into the different ages, the different sexes, and the different location of the different teeth. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Compared with the normal teeth, the thickness of lamina dura in periodontal disease is in creased in all of different ages, sexes and teeth. (equation omitted) 2. Generally, the alveolar crest portion is the thickest among the root surfaces, and midroot, apex followed, and the average thinckness of the posterior teeth is thicker than that of anterior teeth. The mean value of the whole maxillary teeth is almost same as that of mandibular teeth. On the whole cases, the differences of male and female is about 0.01㎜, which is not a significant differences.

  • Lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a serious medical condition that can result in local pain and gait disturbance. DVT progression can also lead to death or major disability as a result of pulmonary embolism, postthrombotic syndrome, or limb amputation. However, early thrombus removal can rapidly relieve symptoms and prevent disease progression. Various endovascular procedures have been developed in the recent years to treat DVT, and endovascular treatment has been established as one of the major therapeutic methods to treat lower extremity DVT. However, the treatment of lower extremity DVT varies according to the disease duration, location of affected vessels, and the presence of symptoms. This article reviews and discusses effective endovascular treatment methods for lower extremity DVT.

  • Periodontal disease, trauma, deformity of tooth can jeopardize the esthetics of oral and maxillo-facial region. Moreover, increasing the demand and concern about the esthetics, clinicians should place high value on esthetics during periodontal treatment. Analysis of various anatomical considerations; lip line, shape and location of marginal gingiva, and biologic width; and diagnosis should be performed prior to periodontal plastic surgery.

  • The bronchogenic cyst, one of rare congenital cystic disease, was reported occasionally since the first description of Bartholinus in 1678. The increased use of roentgenograms of the thorax and the widening scope of thoracic surgery was made, and much more cases of bronchogenic cysts has been observed. The most common location of a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst was the hilum. The treatment for bronchogenic cyst is surgical resection. Forty eight cases of bronchogenic cysts which were pathologically confirmed, are reported and the related literatures are reviewed.

  • There was an outbreak of COVID-19 on the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Distinguishing close contacts is the important problem to be addressed. Close contacts mean people who stays with the patients of disease like COVID-19 over a period of time. The passenger position on board can be obtained by indoor positioning technology. The feature of close contacts is similar location with COVID-19 patients. Therefore, this paper proposed the idea of distinguishing close contacts on board based on DBSCAN algorithm.

  • As of late, air quality information has been actively gathered and investigated in order to find possible environmental risk factors that may affect the onset of cardiovascular disease. Nevertheless, existing studies are limited in the detailed analysis because they take advantage of the air quality information of the macro statistics divided into administrative districts. This paper proposes the construction of distance-based air quality dataset using a domestic hospital’s geographical location information as a reliable data gathering step for a more detailed analysis of environmental risk factors. For the construction of the dataset, air quality information was obtained by utilizing the geographical location of a hospital—in which a patient with cardiovascular disease had been admitted—and then matching the hospital with a meteorological and air pollution station in its vicinity. An air quality acquisition system based on GMap.net was devised for the purpose of data gathering and visualization. The reliability of the experiment was confirmed by evaluating the matching rate and error of air quality values between the acquired dataset with existing area-based air quality datasets from matched distances. Therefore, this dataset, which considers geographical information, can be utilized in multidisciplinary research for the discovery of environmental risk factors that can affect not only cardiovascular diseases but also potentially other epidemic diseases.

  • Anger cause heart disease and domestic violence and recently there have been an increasing number of media reports of crimes committed because of their inability to control their anger. Anger has been reported to cause massive financial losses due to heart disease and domestic violence. Therefore, since anger raises serious social problems and social costs, it is necessary to take active intervention methods to alleviate inappropriate anger coping. A variety of methods such as cognitive and emotional approach, psycho-mechanical approach, psycho-educational approach, relaxation therapy, cognitive behavior-art therapy, and stress immunization are being explored and utilized for presenting effective anger-coping intervention alternatives. In this manner, information and communication technology is likely to be used as an effective means for this, and various researches are being conducted. The purpose of this study is to develop an anger coping service technology using ICT (Information & Communication Technology) technology as an effort to improve anger coping ability. In other words, the goal is to develop a technology that delays anger and evokes the surroundings by providing location-based services to recognize anger situations and facilitate anger. This research is about the technology which intervene directly the anger situation to resolve it using location information and introduce the base technology to realize it.

  • It has been shown that bilateral decrease of point H4,5,6 in Ryodoraku test is related with gastric dysmotility. This suggested that the system of Kyung-Rak related with anatomical gastric disease may not be the Stomach Meridian, in the view that the system of Kyung-Rak is similar to that of Ryodoraku, and which was not consistent with classical contents of Kyung-Rak principle. Therefore, this paper was done to investigate whether bilateral decrease of point H4,5,6 is a general sign of common gastric disease in Ryodoraku test and to study its relation between Kyung-Rak principle and autonomic nervous system as a mediator explaining Ryodoraku response. As shown in the results of this study, different electrical response of Ryodoraku between patients with dyspepsia of gastric dysmotility and gastric ulcer revealed discrepancy of location indicating anatomical stomach between Kyung-Rak principle and Ryodoraku and instability of explanation of autonomic nerve theory to Ryodoraku. Thus, it presented the possibility that artificial application of Kyung-Rak principle against Ryodoraku may destroy its originality in the clinical field. To correctly use Ryodoraku in the diagnosis or evaluation of disease, Ryodoraku test should be used according to Nakatani's suggestion and clinical indication of which is limited to the diseases complicated with dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.
