Discrimination of music and speech from the multimedia signal is an important task in audio coding and broadcast monitoring systems. This paper deals with the problem of feature parameter extraction for discrimination of music and speech. The wavelet transform is a multi-resolution analysis method that is useful for analysis of temporal and spectral properties of non-stationary signals such as speech and audio signals. We propose new feature parameters extracted from the wavelet transformed signal for discrimination of music and speech. First, wavelet coefficients are obtained on the frame-by-frame basis. The analysis frame size is set to 20 ms. A parameter $E_{sum}$ is then defined by adding the difference of magnitude between adjacent wavelet coefficients in each scale. The maximum and minimum values of $E_{sum}$ for period of 2 seconds, which corresponds to the discrimination duration, are used as feature parameters for discrimination of music and speech. To evaluate the performance of the proposed feature parameters for music and speech discrimination, the accuracy of music and speech discrimination is measured for various types of music and speech signals. In the experiment every 2-second data is discriminated as music or speech, and about 93% of music and speech segments have been successfully detected.

The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to discriminate between grass spices. A combination of NIRS and chemometrics was used to discriminate between Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue seeds. A total of 240 samples were used to develop the best discriminant equation, whereby three spectra range (visible, NIR, and full range) were applied within a 680 nm to 2500 nm wavelength. The calibration equation for the discriminant analysis was developed using partial least square (PLS) regression and discrimination equation (DE) analysis. A PLS discriminant analysis model for the three spectra range that was developed with the mathematic pretreatment "1,8,8,1" successfully discriminated between Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue. An external validation indicated that all of the samples were discriminated correctly. The discriminant accuracy was shown as 68%, 78%, and 73% for Italian ryegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue, respectively, with the NIR full-range spectra. The results demonstrate the usefulness of the NIRS-chemometrics combination as a rapid method for the discrimination of grass species by seed.

The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of discrimination 12 different cultivar of sorghum × sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum genus) seed through near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The amount of samples for develop to the best discriminant equation was 360. Whole samples were applied different three spectra range (visible, NIR and full range) within 680-2500 nm wavelength and the spectrastar 2500 Near near infrared was used to measure spectra. The calibration equation for discriminant analysis was developed partial least square (PLS) regression and discrimination equation (DE) analysis. The PLS discriminant analysis model for three spectra range developed with mathematic pretreatment 1,8,8,1 successfully discriminated 12 different sorghum genus. External validation indicated that all samples were discriminated correctly. The whole discriminant accuracy shown 82 ~ 100 % in NIR full range spectra. The results demonstrated the usefulness of NIRS combined with chemometrics as a rapid method for discrimination of sorghum × sudangrass hybrid cultivar through seed.
Every country finds a way to respond a lot of terrors to keep her safe in many ways. Our country, before a terror outbreaks, makes various countermeasures such as strengthening international cooperative systems, strengthening informational ability to countermeasure terror, restricting for terrorists to enter or exit from our country, restricting other countries to input weapons in our country to prevent from terror in the aspect of precaution. A terror is more grave than any other one in behavior, and the criminals have to be punished so much and be discriminated from other ones, too. So, a concept of general crime and terror has to be defined. It is finished in the academic area to some extent, but, it is not sufficient in lawful area so much. Afterwards, it is necessary to establish counter-terror protection laws regulating terror crimes directly. In addition, it is necessary to define concretely and clearly the terror activity and deduce the definition of terrorism.
Every movement, perception and thought we perform is associated with distinct neural activation patterns. Neurons in the brain communicate with each other by sending electrical impulses that produce currents. These currents give rise to electrical fields that can be measured outside the head. It shows some variation on the electroencephalographic signals. In recent devices, the EEG signals measured from head surface are a sum of all the momentary brain activation. With these EEG signals, it is difficult to distinguish the patterns correlated with a certain event from the signals. However, the system must discriminate some patterns with some events especially for any kind of device as a brain control interface system. In this experiment, the sensory-motor cortex of humans has been extensively studied. Activation related to several movements on both sides of the sensory-motor cortices in imaginary. The activation patterns during imagination of several movements resemble the activation patterns during preparation of movements. The result represents the system based on the optimal filters discriminated at least 60% of mental imageries.
The purpose of this paper was to discover the importance and degree of satisfaction toward medical service perceived by clients and analize some characteristics and any siginificant difference by deomographic and social variables. In addition the subjects were divided into groups(i. e. satisfied and dissatisfied groups) and tested significant difference between two groups, The results can be summerized as follows: 1,. While the importance of over attributes of medical services percevied by customs was higher the degree of satisfaction was relatively low. 2. According to our analysis the degree of satisfaction toward hospital facilities and staff appeared to have relatively have relatively heavy weights compared to total satisfaction scores. 3. As far customers' quality evaluation about medical service is concerned the importance and degree of satisfaction could not be discriminated by demographic variables except education and income level. 4. The discrepancy of satisfaction s ore between satisfied and dissatisfied group was the highest in hospital facilities compared to other three sectors.

The purpose of this study were to examine the characteristics of arm types proposed in the previous study and to present sleeve patterns according size and shape of 4 arm types. 31 direct and indirect items were measured. The subjects for this study were 132 females of twenties. The results were as follows. 1. All of the direct measurements showed significant difference by the arm types. especially at the front armhole part. Such a.: the items of arm gradients, armhole sizes belong to the indirect measurements made clear difference also. 2. By the discriminant analysis, 9 items including underarm length, front armhole girth, upper arm girth, degree of elbow point-wrist point discriminated arm type by the hit ratio of 90.4% Item related to shape of arm rather than size made a sharp distinction. 3. Through the examination of existing patterns and wearing tests on the subjects among 4 groups, sleeve patterns classified by the arm type were suggested.
We present a new method of measuring the volume and cross-sectional area of the vocal tract from magnetic resonance images. The vocal tract was divided by the 2 constriction points on the horizontal and vertical planes. The ratios of the volumes of the segment vocal tracts to that of the entire vocal tract play a crucial role in discriminating Korean monophthongs in that vowels were successfully discriminated by the ratios. The discriminant analysis also demonstrated that the acoustic parameters F1 and F2, in addition to the segment volumes, serve as significant parameters in discriminating Korean monophthongs.
Optimizing the performance of a composite sensor array is necessary when the number of sensors to choose from is large. In this paper, we present a chemical sensors array optimization method using Wilks Lamda algorithm applicable a device to detect low concentration of alcohol from driver's exhale breath for interlocking engine ignition preventing drink-driving. More than 20 chemical sensors fabricated different synthetic stuffs and heater temperatures by collaborators were nominated, 5 sensors were selected for optimal sensors array using the method, and alcohol samples were well discriminated from the interference gases inside the vehicle. It has been confirmed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA).

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the basic upper-limb involved in products manipulation. Upper-limb muscular deformations and electromyography (EMG) measurements are used as indexes for estimated motion: hand opening and closing, wrist extending and flexing, pronation and supination, grasping conditions. Measured values are analyzed by multivariate analysis and a regression equation is obtained for estimating the characteristics of upper-limb performance. Muscular deformation is defined as a change in shape, such as a pressure changes when the hand or wrist moves. hand opening and closing can be discriminated at a higher percentage of accuracy by muscular deformation data than by EMG data. Muscular deformation measurements using air-pack pressure sensors were verified to be effective in motion estimation applications.
