Better fundamental understanding of the interactions between the in-cylinder flows and combustion process is an important requirement for further improvement in the fuel economy and emissions of internal combustion(IC) engines. Flow near a spark plug at the time of ignition plays an important role for early flame kernel development(EFKD). Velocity data measurements in this study were made with a two-component laser Doppler velocimetry(LDV) near a spark plug in a single cylinder optical spark ignition(SI) engine with a heart-shaped combustion chamber. LDV velocity data were collected on an individual cycle basis under wide-open motored conditions with an engine speed of 1,000rpm. This study examines and compares the flow fields as interpreted through ensemble, cyclic and discrete wavelet transformation(DWT) analysis. The energy distributions in the non-stationary engine flows are also investigated over crank angle phase and frequency through continuous wavelet transformation(CWT) for a position near a spark plug. Wavelet analysis is appropriate for analyzing the flow fields in engines because it gives information about the transient events in a time and frequency plane. The results of CWT analysis are provided and compared with the mean flows of DWT first decomposition level for all cycles at a position. Low frequency high energy found with CWT corresponds well with the peak locations of the mean velocity. The high frequency flows caused by the intake jet gradually decay as the piston approaches the bottom dead center(BDC).
This paper is to propose an algorithm to reduce the calculation time to perform the 2-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform(2DWT). We call this algorithm as Reduced 2-dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transformation(R2DWT). This algorithm uses a modified Mallat-tree such that in each level, the column transform is performed only with the low-pass filtered row transform result. The resulting number of sub-band regions is 2L+1, meanwhile the original(2DWT) has 3L+1 sub-regions, where L is the transform level. To show the proposed algorithm is useful without much loss in SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio), we performed experiments with various images. The results showed that above 5:1 in compression ratio, the proposed algorithm has less than 0.SdB difference in SNR from 2DWT with about 25% reduction in calculation time.

In this paper, we explore the application of 2-D dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (DDWT), which is a directional and redundant transform, for image coding. DDWT main property is a more computationally efficient approach to shift invariance. Also, the DDWT gives much better directional selectivity when filtering multidimensional signals. The dual-tree DWT of a signal is implemented using two critically-sampled DWTs in parallel on the same data. The transform is 2-times expansive because for an N-point signal it gives 2N DWT coefficients. If the filters are designed is a specific way, then the sub-band signals of the upper DWT can be interpreted as the real part of a complex wavelet transform, and sub-band signals of the lower DWT can be interpreted as the imaginary part. The quincunx lattice is a sampling method in image processing. It treats the different directions more homogeneously than the separable two dimensional schemes. Quincunx lattice yields a non separable 2D-wavelet transform, which is also symmetric in both horizontal and vertical direction. And non-separable wavelet transformation can generate sub-images of multiple degrees rotated versions. Therefore, non-separable image processing using DDWT services good performance.

Digital watermarking techniques are attracting attention as a proper solution to protect copyright for multimedia data. This paper proposes a new audio watermarking method based on Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) for copyright protection. In our proposed watermarking method, the original audio is transformed into DCT domain and divided into two parts. Synchronization code is applied on the signal in first part and 2 levels DWT domain is applied on the signal in second part. The absolute value of DWT coefficient is divided into arbitrary number of segments and calculates the energy of each segment and middle peak. Watermarks are then embedded into each middle peak. Watermarks are extracted by performing the inverse operation of watermark embedding process. Experimental results show that the hidden watermark data is robust to re-sampling, low-pass filtering, re-quantization, MP3 compression, cropping, echo addition, delay, and pitch shifting, amplitude change. Performance analysis of the proposed scheme shows low error probability rates.

This paper introduces the double-density discrete wavelet transform using 3 direction separable processing method, which is a discrete wavelet transform that combines the double-density discrete wavelet transform and quincunx sampling method, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages. The double-density discrete wavelet transform is nearly shift-invariant. But there is room for improvement because not all of the wavelets are directional. That is, although the double-density DWT utilizes more wavelets, some lack a dominant spatial orientation, which prevents them from being able to isolate those directions. The dual-tree discrete wavelet transform has a more computationally efficient approach to shift invariance. Also, the dual-tree discrete wavelet transform gives much better directional selectivity when filtering multidimensional signals. But this transformation has more cost complexity Because it needs eight digital filters. Therefor, we need to hybrid transform which has the more directional selection and the lower cost complexity. A solution to this problem is a the double-density discrete wavelet transform using 3 direction separable processing method. The proposed wavelet transformation services good performance in image and video processing fields.

In this paper, we propose an optimal wavelet in a system for canceling background noise of acoustic signals. This system performed Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) instead of the existing Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) and then improved noise cancellation performance through a deep learning process. DWT functions as a multi-resolution band-pass filter and obtains transformation parameters by time-shifting the parent wavelet at each level and using several wavelets whose sizes are scaled. Here, the noise cancellation performance of several wavelets was tested to select the most suitable mother wavelet for analyzing the speech. In this study, to verify the performance of the noise cancellation system for various wavelets, a simulation program using Tensorflow and Keras libraries was created and simulation experiments were performed for the four most commonly used wavelets. As a result of the experiment, the case of using Haar or Daubechies wavelets showed the best noise cancellation performance, and the mean square error(MSE) was significantly improved compared to the case of using other wavelets.
The 3D DWT(The Three Dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform) scheme is potentially regarded as useful one on analyzing both spatial and spectral information. Nevertheless, few researchers have attempted to process or classified remotely sensed images using the 3D DWT. This study aims to apply the 3D DWT to the land cover classification of optical and SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. Then, their results are evaluated quantitatively and compared with the results of traditional classification technique. As the experimental results, the 3D DWT shows superior classification results to conventional techniques, especially dealing with the high-resolution imagery and SAR imagery. It is thought that the 3D DWT scheme can be extended to multi-temporal or multi-sensor image classification.

This paper introduces the double-density discrete wavelet transform(DWT) using quincunx sampling, which is a DWT that combines the double-density DWT and quincunx sampling method, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages. The double-density DWT is an improvement upon the critically sampled DWT with important additional properties: Firstly, It employs one scaling function and two distinct wavelets, which are designed to be offset from one another by one half. Secondly, the double-density DWT is overcomplete by a factor of two, and Finally, it is nearly shift-invariant. In two dimensions, this transform outperforms the standard DWT in terms of denoising; however, there is room for improvement because not all of the wavelets are directional. That is, although the double-density DWT utilizes more wavelets, some lack a dominant spatial orientation, which prevents them from being able to isolate those directions. A solution to this problem is a quincunx sampling method. The quincunx lattice is a sampling method in image processing. It treats the different directions more homogeneously than the separable two dimensional schemes. Proposed wavelet transformation can generate sub-images of multiple degrees rotated versions. Therefore, This method services good performance in image processing fields.

This study compares various transformation techniques for multifocus image fusion. Multi-focus image fusion is a procedure of merging multiple images captured at unalike focus distances to produce a single composite image with improved sharpness and clarity. In this research, the purpose is to compare different popular frequency domain approaches for multi-focus image fusion, such as Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT), Stationary Wavelet Transforms (SWT), DCT-based Laplacian Pyramid (DCT-LP), Discrete Cosine Harmonic Wavelet Transform (DC-HWT), and Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT). The objective is to increase the understanding of these transformation techniques and how they can be utilized in conjunction with one another. The analysis will evaluate the 10 most crucial parameters and highlight the unique features of each method. The results will help determine which transformation technique is the best for multi-focus image fusion applications. Based on the visual and statistical analysis, it is suggested that the DCT-LP is the most appropriate technique, but the results also provide valuable insights into choosing the right approach.
In watermarking schemes, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is broadly used because its frequency component separation is very useful. Moreover, LU decomposition has little influence on the visual quality of the watermark. Hence, in this paper, a novel blind watermark algorithm is presented based on LU transform and DWT for the copyright protection of digital images. In this algorithm, the color host image is first performed with DWT. Then, the horizontal and vertical diagonal high frequency components are extracted from the wavelet domain, and the sub-images are divided into $4{\times}4$ non-overlapping image blocks. Next, each sub-block is performed with LU decomposition. Finally, the color image watermark is transformed by Arnold permutation, and then it is inserted into the upper triangular matrix. The experimental results imply that this algorithm has good features of invisibility and it is robust against different attacks to a certain degree, such as contrast adjustment, JPEG compression, salt and pepper noise, cropping, and Gaussian noise.
