Experimental and numerical analysis of the global behaviour of the 1:9 scale model of the Old Bridge in Mostar

  • Composite nature of the masonry structures in general causes complex and non-linear behaviour, especially in intense vibration conditions. The presence of different types and forms of structural elements and different materials is a major problem for the analysis of these type of structures. For this reason, the analysis of the behaviour of masonry structures requires a combination of experimental tests and non-linear mathematical modelling. The famous UNESCO Heritage Old Bridge in Mostar was selected as an example for the analysis of the global behaviour of reinforced stone arch masonry bridges. As part of the experimental research, a model of the Old Bridge was constructed in a scale of 1:9 and tested on a shaking table platform for different levels of seismic excitation. Non-linear mathematical modelling was performed using a combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM), including the effect of connection elements. The paper presents the horizontal displacement of the top of the arch and the failure mechanism of the Old Bridge model for the experimental and the numerical phase, as well as the comparison of the results. This research provided a clearer insight into the global behaviour of stone arch masonry structures reinforced with steel clamps and steel dowels, which is significant for the structures classified as world cultural heritage.

Fault Detection and Classification with Optimization Techniques for a Three-Phase Single-Inverter Circuit

  • Fault detection and isolation are related to system monitoring, identifying when a fault has occurred, and determining the type of fault and its location. Fault detection is utilized to determine whether a problem has occurred within a certain channel or area of operation. Fault detection and diagnosis have become increasingly important for many technical processes in the development of safe and efficient advanced systems for supervision. This paper presents an integrated technique for fault diagnosis and classification for open- and short-circuit faults in three-phase inverter circuits. Discrete wavelet transform and principal component analysis are utilized to detect the discontinuity in currents caused by a fault. The features of fault diagnosis are then extracted. A fault dictionary is used to acquire details about transistor faults and the corresponding fault identification. Fault classification is performed with a fuzzy logic system and relevance vector machine (RVM). The proposed model is incorporated with a set of optimization techniques, namely, evolutionary particle swarm optimization (EPSO) and cuckoo search optimization (CSO), to improve fault detection. The combination of optimization techniques with classification techniques is analyzed. Experimental results confirm that the combination of CSO with RVM yields better results than the combinations of CSO with fuzzy logic system, EPSO with RVM, and EPSO with fuzzy logic system.

군수지원시스템을 위한 에이전트 기반의 객체 지향 시뮬레이션 모델 아키텍처 설계 방법론 (A Methodology for Creating a Simulation Model for a Agent Based and Object-oriented Logistics Support System)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 복잡한 군수지원시스템의 모델링과 시뮬레이션을 위한 방법론을 제안하는 것이다. 제안하는 군수지원시스템 시뮬레이션 모델을 구성하는 요소들은 세 가지가 있다 : Logistics force agent(static model), Military supplies transport manager(function model), Military supplies state manager(dynamic model). Logistics force agent는 main function agent와function agent로 구성된다. Function agent가 다른 Logistics force agent에도 적용할 수 있도록 설계되었으며, 이는 에이전트의 높은 조합성과 재사용성을 가진다. Military supplies transport manager는 보급로에 대한 정보를 가지며 military supplies state manager로부터 받은 결정변수를 기반으로 보급로를 결정하고 군수품을 수송하는 역할을 하는 에이전트이다. Military supplies state manager는 군수품 보급을 요청받고 보급량, 우선순위 따위의 결정 변수를 military supplies transport manager에게 알려주는 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 군수 시뮬레이션 모델의 설계를 위해 Discrete Event Systems Specification(DEVS) formalism을 이용하였다.

Effect of bogie fairings on the snow reduction of a high-speed train bogie under crosswinds using a discrete phase method

  • This paper investigated the wind-snow flow around the bogie region of a high-speed train under crosswinds using a coupled numerical method of the unsteady Realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and discrete phase model (DPM). The flow features around the bogie region were discussed and the influence of bogie fairing height on the snow accumulation on the bogie was also analyzed. Here the high-speed train was running at a speed of 200 km/h in a natural environment with the crosswind speed of 15 m/s. The mesh resolution and methodology for CFD analysis were validated against wind tunnel experiments. The results show that large negative pressure occurs locally on the bottom of wheels, electric motors, gear covers, while the positive pressure occurs locally on those windward surfaces. The airflow travels through the complex bogie and flows towards the rear bogie plate, causing a backflow in the upper space of the bogie region. The snow particles mainly accumulate on the wheels, electric motors, windward sides of gear covers, side fairings and back plate of the bogie. Longer side fairings increase the snow accumulation on the bogie, especially on the back plate, side fairings and brake clamps. However, the fairing height shows little impact on snow accumulation on the upper region of the bogie. Compared to short side fairings, a full length side fairing model contributes to more than two times of snow accumulation on the brake clamps, and more than 20% on the whole bogie.

  • A buck-boost zero current switched(ZCS) series resonant AC to DC converter for the DC output voltage regulation together with high power factor is proposed. The proposed single phase AC to DC converter enables a zero current switching operation of all the power devices allowing the circuit to operate at high swtiching frequencies and high power levels. A dynamic model for this Ac to DC converter is developed and an analysis for the internal operational characteristics is explored. Based on this analysis, a switched discrete sliding mode control(SDSMC) technique is investigated and its advantages over the other types of current control techniques are discussed. With the proposed control technique, the unity power factor without a current overshoot and a wide range of output voltage can be obtained.

  • In this study, analysis of water mist behavior is performed using numerical simulation. Water mist is characterized by the droplet flow which is one of the multiphase flows and is discrete fluid droplets in continuous air. It is important to choose the proper diameter of droplet-size and the distance between the fire location and the position of water mist because it depends on the buoyancy from fire. Therefore the behavior of water mist with fire should be simulated by FLUENT, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) program, with Lagrangian discrete phase model. (DPM)

  • The MRAC theory has proved to be one of the most popular algorithms in the field of adaptive control, particularly for practical application to devices such as an hydraulic servosystem of which parameters are unknown or varying during operation. For small sampling period, the discrete time system becomes a nonminimal phase system. The $\delta$-MRAC was introduced to obtain the control performance of nonminimal phase system, because the z-MRAC can not control the plant for small sampling period. In this paper, $\delta$-MRAC is applied to the control of an hydraulic servosystem which is composed of servovalve, hydraulic cylinder and inertia load.

보행 방향 및 상태 분석을 위한 병렬 가우스 과정 (Parallel Gaussian Processes for Gait and Phase Analysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 다중 상태 변수의 인수 HMM을 일반화하여 연속 은닉 변수와 이산 은닉 변수가 결합된 순차 상태 추정 모형을 제안하고 이에 기반한 보행 동작 모형을 설계한다. 유한 상태의 이산변수는 마르코프 연쇄 구조로 보행의 동역학적 특성을 표현하고 각 이산 상태에 대해 연속 변수를 독립변수로 한 가우스 과정을 정의한다. 마르코프 상태 천이는 여러 가우스 과정 사이의 스위칭을 제어하며 각 가우스 과정은 동일한 자세의 회전 또는 다양한 시각을 표현한다. 온라인 필터링 추론을 위해 입자 필터 방식의 추론 알고리듬도 제시한다. 이 알고리듬은 입력 벡터 열이 주어졌을 때 이들 병렬적 가우스 과정을 동적으로 갈아타는 스위칭 궤적을 디코딩 해준다. 실험 결과 비선형적 보행자 비디오 영상을 보행방향과 보행 상태의 열로 분리하며 매우 직관적인 해석을 할 수 있음을 보였다.

정현파 모델을 이용한 2.4kbps 음성부호화 알고리즘 (2.4kbps Speech Coding Algorithm Using the Sinusoidal Model)

  • STC(Sinusoidal Transform Coding) 방식은 주파수 영역에서 음성신호의 스펙트럼 피크치들을 정현파로 모델링하여 합성하는 음성부호화 방식을 말한다. 저전송률 STC 방식에서는 스펙트럼의 모든 피크를 이용하는 대신, 기본 주파수와 고조파에 해당하는 스펙트럼 포락선에서의 크기와 그때의 위상을 이용하여 음성을 합성한다. 본 논문에서는 정현파 모델에 기반한 2.4kbps 음성부호화 알고리즘을 제안한다. 피치정보는 모든 스펙트럼 피크를 사용한 합성음과 선택된 주파수와 고조파를 이용한 합성음과의 평균자승에러를 이용하여 추정하고, 위상정보는 여기신호 펄스의 시작시기를 나타내는 onset time과 성도 모델 전달함수의 위상을 이용하여 얻는다. 크기정보는 SEEVOC 알고리즘과 선형예측계수를 이용하여 추정한다. 실험결과, 합성음의 스펙트럼 특성은 원음성의 포만트 정보를 대부분 가지고 있으며, 위상정보도 원음성의 위상을 잘 따라감을 확인하였다. 합성음의 음질평가를 위해서 informal한 MOS(Mean Opinion Score) 테스트를 시행하였으며, 2.0kbps의 HVXC와 비교하여 대체적으로 MOS 3.1 이상의 음질을 얻을 수 있었다.

희체가스 가중합산모델을 적용한 미분탄 연소의 해석 (Modeling of a Pulverized Coal Combustion With Applying WSGGM)

  • A numerical study for simulating a swirling pulverized coal combustion in axisymmetric geometry is done here by applying the weighted sum of gray gases model (WSGGM) approach with the discrete ordinate method (DOM) to model the radiative heat transfer equation. In the radiative transfer equation, the same polynomial equation and coefficients for weighting factors as those for gas are adopted for the coal/char particles as a function of partial pressure and particle temperature. The Eulerian balance equations for mass, momentum, energy, and species mass fractions are adopted with the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model, whereas the Lagrangian approach is used for the particulate phase for soot. The eddydissipation model is employed for the reaction rate for gaseous mixture, and the single-step first-order reaction model for the devolatilization process for coal. By comparing the numerical results with experimental ones, the models used here are confirmed and found to be one of good alternatives for simulating the combustion as well as radiative characteristics.
