  • The effect of Combined Sewer Overflow on the river system was investigated throughout three preliminary field tests and three main ones. As a result of the study, Combined Sewer Overflow did not affect water qualities on the main stream since the concentration of the main stream did not significantly changed during rainfall events although the water quality of tributaries has rapidly deteriorated due to the influence of the Combined Sewer Overflow during rainfall events. The main cause of the result is that the flow rate of the tributaries is considerably lower than that of the main stream, so that the tributaries with deteriorated water quality during rainfall events did not significantly affect the quality of the actual main stream. Therefore, the water quality of the Kumho River is more affected by the wastewater treatment facilities that discharges water continuously to the main stream than pollutants from non-point pollution sources during rainfall events. As a result, managements for discharges from wastewater treatment facilities should be strengthened in order to improve the water quality of the river.

  • In general, the background light produced during the reset period deteriorates the dark room contrast ratio in AC PDP. In this paper, we propose a modified ramp reset pulse that can reduce the background light to imperceptible level. In the new reset waveform, the discharges between the scan and sustain electrodes are minimized by applying a positive bias voltage to the sustain electrode and only the weak discharges between the scan and address electrodes occur during the reset period. We adopted a MgO coated phosphor layer to get the same level of voltage margin in the new reset pulse scheme compared to that of the conventional ramp reset pulse one. As a result, the voltage margin is maintained at the same level and the dark room contrast ratio is improved dramatically.

  • During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) tests were performed with partial discharge analyzer(PDA) in two hydrogenerators. Six cable couplers were installed in circuit ring bus and endwinding of three phases. PDA showed that the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the partial discharge magnitude$(Q_m)$ were very low in hydrogenerator #1 and #2, respectively. The trend analyses of NQN and $Q_m$ value are available for monitoring of the insulation condition in hydrogenerator stator windings. The insulation condition of stator winding can be assessed. Discharge at conductor surface was discovered in B phase(C2 coupler) of hydrogenerator #1. Internal discharges were generated in A and C phases(C2 coupler) of hydrogenerator #1 and in A, Band C phases(C1 and C2 couplers) of hydrogenerator #2. Slot discharges occurred in A, Band C phases(C1 coupler) of hydrogenerator #1. The stator windings of two hydrogenerators were in good condition.

  • Abstract - In order to investigate the possibility of separating PD(partial discharge) and noises through the pulse analysis by use of a HFCT, pulse shapes measured by a resistive sensor and a HFCT were analyzed and adequate PA(pulse analysis) algorithms were studied. For the purpose, the HFPD detection and PA system has been developed. Also void discharges and air corona were adopted as the artificial defect and noises, respectively. As a result, it is possible to separate partial discharges and noises through the PA method using the $100kHz{\sim}20MHz$ frequency range HFCT. It is expected to apply the developed system to on-site PD measurements for the electric equipments.

  • Studies of interictal epileptiform discharges are essential for improving the diagnosis, classification, and management of epilepsy. In this case series we sought to identify the clinical and neurophysiological significance of bifid spikes, whose pattern bears a strong resemblance to the cardiac M pattern. We hypothesize that, analogous to the cardiac M pattern, the cerebral M pattern is generated by a conduction defect associated with asynchronous spatiotemporal averaging of electrical signals in the cortex, resulting in the signals reaching the scalp with different latencies. Unlike the cardiac M pattern, the pathology underlying the cerebral M pattern is unknown, although congenital CNS anomalies may be a culprit.

  • Periodic lateralized epileptiform discharges(PLEDs) are usually seen in acute and subacute cerebral lesions. Occasionally PLEDs could be observed in persistent structural lesions. We observed PLEDs-plus in a patient with right basal ganglionic hemorrhage, at 10 months and 13 months after the stroke. The patients suffered two seizures 3 months and 5 days before recording of EEG. PLEDs-plus may persist as an interictal abnormal finding and the rhythmic discharge of that may be increased by a seizure.

  • In this study, following works have been carried out : division of Nakdong River Basin into 25 sub basins, development of a technique to evaluate spatial distribution of rainfall and analysis of rainfall data of 169 stations, selection of control points, and selection of a hydrologic model(SSARR). Analysis results were found that total volume of discharges at every control points have errors in a reasonable range, and the correlations between observed and calculated daily runoff discharges at every control points were well coincided.

  • The principal obstacle to selection of a laser processing method in production is its relatively high equipment cost and the natural unwillingness of production supervision to try something new until it is thoroughly proven. The major objective of this work is focused on the combined features of gas tungsten arc and a low-power cold laser beam. In this work, the laser beam from a 7 watts carbon monoxide laser was combined with electrical discharges from a short-pulsed capacitive discharge GTA welding power supply. When the low power CO laser beam passes through a special composition shielding gas, the CO molecules in the gas absorbs the radiation, and ionizes through a process blown as non-equilibrium, vibration-vibration pumping. The resulting laser-induced plasma(LIP) was positioned between various configurations of electrodes. The high-voltage impulse applied to the electrodes forced rapid electrical breakdown between the electrodes. Electrical discharges between tungsten electrodes and aluminum sheet specimens followed the ionized path provided by LIP. The result was well-focused melted spots.

  • This paper aims to investigate the effect of silicone oils as processing agent affecting the loss and recovery of hydrophobicity. The recovery of hydrophobicity was evaluated by the measurement of the surface electrical resistivity and the contact angle on the SIR surface. Two kinds of silicone oils (1 and 2) having different molecular weight were selected under a consideration of hydrophobicity and processability. SIR specimens were exposed to corona discharges in air and the specimens were analyzed with contact angle and surface resistance measurements. It was observed that the contact angle and the surface resistivity of SIR increase gradually with testing time. The fast recovery of hydrophobicity of SIR, expressed by the increment of contact angle and surface resistivity, was showed in SIR2 containing silicone oil 2.

  • This paper deals with a measurement system of a distance between lightning strokes and observatory station and spectrum analysis of electric fields radiated from lightning discharges. The distance measurement system, which consists of a loop type magnetic field sensor, a microphone and one chip microprocessor, is connected to a personal computer through RS232 port to acquire and process the data. This system is to use a difference of propagation velocity between an electromagnetic wave and a sonic wave produced by lightning discharge. Also, an electric field waveform and a frequency spectrum were investigated by an electric field measurement system with a hemisphere antenna and a spectrum analyzer with a biconical antenna and a log-periodic antenna, respectively. The results would be used as a basic reference to protect the power systems and electric circuits from lightning overvoltages.
