Insulation Characteristics of PET Films for $SF_6$ EHV VT Winding ($SF_6$ EHV VT 권선 절연지의 절연특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hole or crack on the Insulation characteristics of a PET films for EHV(Extra High Voltage) VT winding. The hole or the crack in the PET films was made and the insulation characteristics of them were measured. Ad an experimental result, it was shown hat he PDIV(Partial Discharge Inception Voltage) and the BDV(Breakdown Voltage) of the PET films with hole or crack were lower than those without them, and were markedly dependent on their position and temperature. Therefore, the hole and the crack affected to insulation characteristics of PET films for SF$_{6}$EHV(Extra High Voltage) VT Winding.g.

  • The technique of induced discharge by a pulsed CO2 laser is being applied to control electrical discharge path, material processing, triggered lightning for protecting the power equipments. In this paper, we have investigated about the characteristics of the induced discharge at atmospheric conditions by using a plasma channel, which is produced when a pulsed CO2 laser radiation is focused by a focusing mirror as a trigger source. A plasma channel produced by laser radiation has an effect on decreasing the threshold voltage and inducing the discharge in both needle electrodes. We have confirmed a delay time between a produced plasma channel and an electrical discharge after laser radiation. We provided the decreased voltage lower than the natural discharge voltage between electrode type of needles and was induced the discharge by forming a plasma channel between them. In this research we could understand the time delay of induced discharge by laser radiation, and the characteristics of the discharge cause by the decrease in the threshold voltage, and the polarity effect by changes of plasma channel positions between two electrodes.

  • In this paper, the discharge phenomena of high frequency glow discharge in organic vapor are basically investigted to establish the growth mechanism and preparation technique for organic thin film. According to the increasing of discharge frequency, the discharge firing voltage(Vs) of organic vapor decreases. The dependence of discharge voltage(Vd) on gas pressure is generally in accord with Paschen's Law and Vd decreases as gas flow rate become larger, but increases as dischange current density become higher. And the values of Vd in organic vapor are generally higher than those of inorganic gas.

Improving Breakdown Voltage Characteristics of GDAs using Trigger Voltage

  • This paper investigates a method to improve the breakdown voltage characteristics of a gas discharge arrester (GDA) for a surge suppressor. The middle electrode is inserted between two terminal electrodes. Voltage application to the electrode synchronized and amplified by the impulse voltage decreases spark overvoltage from 45% to 57.6%. The decrease is caused by higher voltage slope, as opposed to applied impulse voltage (by 5.5 to 6.2 times). In addition, the GDA model using ATP-Draw was used to analyze the operation characteristics of GDAs. The test and simulation results agree to within 2% when the trigger source was used.

  • This paper describes underwater discharge phenomena and breakdown characteristics in case that the standard lightning impulse voltage is injected to the needle and spherical electrodes installed in the hemisphere water tank. The objective of this work is to understand the basic features related to transient ground impedance against lightning surges. The discharge luminous images were observed and the dependence of breakdown voltage on the polarity of applied voltage and water resistivity were investigated. As a consequence, streamer corona is initiated at the tip of needle and spherical electrodes and is propagated toward grounded tank with stepwise extension. The breakdown voltage characteristics measured as a function of water resistivity showed V-shaped curves. Breakdown voltage and time curve of needle electrode is higher than that of spherical electrode.

  • In ac PDP(plasma Display Panel), the discharge characteristics is very important to display clear images. In this paper, we have studied the measurement of voltage transfer curves which show the discharge characteristics in AC PDP. The change of the effective wall capacitance during a discharge is also studied. These depend on lateral spreading of charge distribution and the strength of the discharge. As a parameter of the frequency, we observed the effects of the frequency in voltage transfer curves and in effective wall capacitance changes. As frequency increases, minimum sustain voltage and firing voltage decrease. In upper region of gap voltage the chance of the effective wall capacitance is independent of frequency.

  • The voltage profile of Zinc/Air battery during discharge has very flat pattern in a given voltage range, But, if not enough the porosity in cathode, as a result of that capacity, energy and discharge voltage of batteries become low. Therefore, we focused the pore effects in activated carbon for cathode. We examined discharge voltage, specific capacity, specific energy, resistance and characteristics during the GSM pulse discharge upon different kinds of activated carbon in Zinc/Air battery, Also we measured porosity of the air cathode according to the ASTM. So we achieved improvement of specific capacity, specific energy and discharge voltage according to increase meso pores of activated carbon. We found the optimized activated carbon material for Zinc/Air battery.

Effect of Protrusion Electrode of the Electro-Optical Characteristics of AC PDP with Long Electrode Gap (Long 전극갭을 가지는 AC PDP의 전기광학적 특성에 미치는 돌기전극의 영향)

  • In the current PDP technology, one of the most important issues in AC PDP is improvement of luminance and luminous efficacy. To improve luminance and luminous efficacy, new cell structure of PDP containing long discharge path is necessary. However, it causes an increment of firing voltage. In order to decrease firing voltage of AC PDP having long discharge gap, the protrusion electrode is proposed. To drop the firing voltage, the protrusion electrode is inserted into the forward area of the main discharge gap. This paper presents measurements of detailed optical and electrical characteristics of AC PDP with protrusion electrodes. The experimental results show that the proposed structure with gap 80um has lower firing voltage to 27V than that of the conventional long gap structure. Moreover, the ICCD(Intensified Charge Coupled Device) images of the proposed structure show quick discharge generation by 0.07usec and longer continuation by 0.05usec than that of the conventional long gap structure. Therefore, the proposed protrusion electrodes have higher luminance by 12.5% than that of the conventional structure, as having no decrement of Luminous efficacy.

  • In this paper, showering discharge type ozonizer has been designed and manufactured. The ozonizer is equipped with three electrodes(central electrode of screw shape, internal electrode and external electrode) of cylinder shape. This paper describes the following two characteristics: (1) The characteristics of discharge with variation of output voltage of AC H.V source, flux of oxygen supplied gas and discharge voltage. (2) The characteristics of ozone generation by varying flux and discharge power.

  • In wire discharge machining which is using STD 11 as die materials, the major factors of machining speed are discharge voltage, discharge current, and discharge time. All of the three factors give the effect. Increasing of the discharge pulse time gets groove width wider and it relatively increases surface roughness and clearance. If no load voltage is decreased, surface roughness is good but it decreases machining speed. If on time is increased, machining speed will get faster and clearance and offset value also get bigger.
