  • This study attempts to suggest a theoretical basic frame that is needed for nursing intervention regarding the sexual experiences of the mentally disabled. The data were collected through a series of interviews with 14 participants. With permission of the mentally disabled, the interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using the framework of grounded theory mapped out by Strauss & Corbin(1998). The following 3 theories were confirmed on the basis of repetitive relations: becoming nest type, exercising self-restraint type, getting tangled type. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a realistic sex education that is relevant to hospital, community mental health center, and culture. The nurse is required to activily participate in educating the mentally disabled with a diverse approach to instill and nurture the sober perspective about sex such as the pleasure, life, intimacy based on sexual equality.

Method: The subjects consisted of 761 disabled people in Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlational statistics. Results: There were significant differences in age, cause of disability, type of disability, degree of disability, education, job, perceived health condition, and economic status between disabled people with high and low levels of ADL and IADL. Depression showed significant differences in type of disability, degree of disability, education, job, perceived health condition, and economic state; isolation showed significant differences in age, cause of disability, type of disability, education, job, residence, perceived health condition, and economic status. A significant association was identified between depression and isolation (r=.69, p<.001). Conclusion: There was a high incidence of depression in disabled men with high levels of isolation and ADL and IADL dependence. An effort to increase disabled people's ADL, IADL, and independence levels is needed, and nursing interventions should be designed and tested to increase their community involvement and decrease the sense of isolation and depression.

The longitudinal profile of the disabled person's discrimination was classified through latent profile growth analysis(LPGA), and then influential factors were verified through binomial logistic regression analysis. First, the types of change of the job discrimination of the disabled were represented as the decrease group and the increase group. The factors influencing the job discrimination were the degree of disability, chronic diseases, gross income, and life satisfaction. Second, the factors of predicting the life satisfaction according to the types of job discrimination of the disabled are as follows: job discrimination, decrease and increase group have higher life satisfaction as the self - esteem and socioeconomic status are higher. Based on these results, this study suggested the implications of this study to cope with the discrimination of the workplace with the disabled.

  • As social work practice for the disabled is still centered in provider's perspective in Korea, this study started with concerns for consumerism that is emerging as an alternative for the social work practice for the disabled. Consumerism is rooted in organization process of the disability rights movement, and considered as an ideology that protects actively the rights and influence of consumers. However, consumerism is not operating as an accomplished ideology yet, but as a type of the practical discourse. Consumerism is interpreted in multiaxial meanings and the conscituents of consumerism is used ambiguously in practice. This is because theoretical reviews on the conceptual thinking of consumerism are scant and empirical inquiries into conceptual cognition of social workers who uses this concept as a professional are scarce. After analyzing the data using Q methodology, the result shows that social workers' major cognitive types on consumerism perspective consists of four types; Empowerment type, Market-mechanism type, Multi-opening type and Traditional-value type. These types are classified by the dimension of 'specific/extended', 'traditional/reformative' and 'instrumental/autotelic'. This result will attribute to develop consumer-intimate policy, practice program and professional training program and to give facilities for lucid communication among policy, practice field, theory and movement in social welfare for disabled as it materializes the explicit conception of consumerism that is understood ambiguously in Korea.

  • The effect of improving awareness by educational programs for improving the quality of daily life of the disabled and safety depends on the type of disability and individual differences, as well as the difficulty in evaluating education achievement and satisfaction. However, more effective programs can be developed and provided if the factors affecting the effectiveness of education can be identified. Training as one of the factors affecting effectiveness involves motivation. This is thought to be an important factor for any object regardless of the type of disability. It is recognized that "By providing programs for the disabled to immerse themselves, they can be motivated to participate in education and expect greater effects on educational effects." Gamification is convincing enough for general learning. Furthermore, a feature of gamification is the use of the game's structure to achieve its goal, which acts on participants' motivation. Some use game packages such as analog games and digital games, but some include gamification of activities themselves. The use of gamification in education has different characteristics from the development of businesses. Therefore, in this paper, we reviewed the current status and challenges with the aim of promoting the use of gamification in life safety education for the disabled.
