A Study on the Influence of Disability of Elderly on Successful Aging - A Moderating Effect of Social Support Network - (노인의 장애유무가 성공적 노화에 미치는 영향 연구 -사회적 관계망의 조절효과-)

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest implications for the elderly with disability by taking a look at the influence of disability of elderly on successful aging and a moderating effect of social support network. This study analyzed the $4^{th}$ panel data from KReIS and the subjects for this research are 3,906 of elderly aged over 65 years. For the statistical analysis, the IBM SPSS Statistics v23.0 program was utilized. Technical statistics was verified, multiple regression analysis was used in order to take a look at the effects of moderating variable. The results of this research are as the following: Firstly, the disability of elderly had an negative effect on successful age. Secondly, as a social support network, friend & neighborhood network and family network had an positive effect on successful age. Thirdly, friend & neighborhood network among social support network had a moderating effect on successful aging. In other words, the more disabled the elderly are, the lower the level of successive aging became, it turned out that the bigger the social support of friend & neighborhood network, the less the negative effect of disability on successive aging. On the basis of the result, it was proposed a case management for the elderly with disability, assurance of mobility right, and self-help meeting program for social support network.

Development of a DGPS-Based Localization and Semi-Autonomous Path Following System for Electric Scooters (전동 스쿠터를 위한 DGPS 기반의 위치 추정 및 반 자율 주행 시스템 개발)

  • More and more elderly and disabled people are using electric scooters instead of electric wheelchairs because of higher mobility. However, people with high levels of impairment or the elderly still have difficulties in driving the electric scooters safely. Semi-autonomous electric scooter system is one of the solutions for the safety: Either manual driving or autonomous driving can be used selectively. In this paper, we implement a semi-autonomous electric scooter system with functions of localization and path following. In order to recognize the pose of electric scooter in outdoor environments, we design an outdoor localization system based on the extended Kalman filter using DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) and wheel encoders. We added an accelerometer to make the localization system adaptable to road condition. Also we propose a path following algorithm using two arcs with current pose of the electric scooter and a given path in the map. Simulation results are described to show that the proposed algorithms provide the ability to drive an electric scooter semi-autonomously. Finally, we conduct outdoor experiments to reveal the practicality of the proposed system.

  • The health care environment exerts tremendous influence on community health practices. Here the author mention several major factors that will influence the future plan for health service and health education; that is, economic problem, the issues of decrement of infectious disease, increment of chronic degenerative disease due to natural increase of the elderly, increased frequency of traffic and industrial accidents and the issues of medical-technological advances etc. Therefore, special efforts by health personnel should be made to develop health education and health promotion strategies on a community-wide basis. Accordingly, the flexible accessibility, convenient availability, guaranteed medical service, sufficient supply of health information, and rapidly available medicaid service for special population such as the elderly, the handicapped, the disabled and the poor are considered. Also, the financial support from the central government and local self-government and active participation of health consumer to health service are needed in Korea, The role of the health personnel is to elicit, facilitate and maintain health promoting behavior with his and her assurance for health consumers being competent and supported in the voluntary choice of their health promoting activities. The health promoting activities such as the above mentioned will be produce escalation of their life Quality among Koreans.

  • 본 연구는 고령자시설의 현황과 고령자의 군집보행속도를 조사한 전보에 이어 고령자를 고려한 피난안전설계를 위한 기초연구로서 노인요양시설의 근무자의 소방안전관리실태에 관한 설문조사를 실시 및 분석하였으며 그 결과 화재시 재실자의 피난가능여부와 소방서와의 연락체계에 관한 질문에서 초기피난의 문제점을 도출할 수 있었으며 노인요양시설의 비상구 및 주야간 상시 관리자 수 및 피난시설에서 대응책이 필요할 것으로 사료되어 향후 체계적인 피난안전계획의 구축이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

  • The Fuel cell Rubber tired Train (FRT), which is now getting the attention as the next generation vehicle with its environment-friendliness, is the transportation for smooth connections of city traffic. It is the revival of the surface-car system with its revaluation of the function and technological development. Accordingly, fixed time operation and high speed driving became possible. FRT is operated together with other vehicles on the regular drive way. While this vehicle can solve the problem of traffic congestion in the urban area, it also can be cost-effective when it is compared to the cost of subway construction. It is also designed to minimize the underground or elevated traffic lane, to introduce the new construction technology, to reduce a term of works, and to cut down the operation cost by unmanned automatic driving system. Furthermore, it is considered as the alternative measure of other transportation due to its potential for the ecological way of speed improvement and the accessability to the disabled, elderly and children by developing the vehicle with folding steps or by building the high boarding platforms. In this research, I concentrated on the user oriented interior design of the FRT to make it passenger-friendly and safe in order to maximize the utilization of the vehicle so that all users including wheelchaired, user with baby carriage, elderly and children can conveniently use this vehicle.

  • Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets as the prevalence of common, greatly increasing the use of mobile applications. However, unlike PC, the interface of mobile device is limited, too difficult to use the disalbed and the elderly. Goverment 'Mobile Application Accessibility Guidelines' was enacted in order to guarantee the Disabled and elderly people's accessibility, In this paper, Analysis of these guidelines and points to consider when designing a mobile app examined.   • Domestic and international laws and regulations on design of residential environment are adopted, revised and supplemented to solve the problems such as access, safety and privacy in the residential space of the elderly and the disabled. This study is an comparative analysis of Korea and Japan, USA, UK laws and regulations on environment design by literature review. The purpose of this study is to present the basic materials required for development of the standard that would supports the undiscriminatory physical environment for the socially weak who are experiencing aging and disability, due to the restricted scope of entrance, bathroom and kitchen spaces with high frequency of safety accident. The results of this study are as follows. (1) Design guidelines on residential environment were compared under five residential factors for aging in place: safety, accessibility, amenity, usability and privacy. (2) The guidelines of each country applied to the entrance, bathroom and kitchen space were compared. (3) The results showed present guidelines should be completed with 'safety', 'accessibility', 'amenity', 'usability' and 'privacy' for Aging in place.

  • This study aims to study non-rechargeable wrist-type smart bands for those vulnerable to the digital environment. The transition to the digital age means improving the efficiency of human life and the convenience of management. In the digital age, it can be a very convenient infrastructure for the digital generation, but otherwise, it can cause inconvenience. COVID-19 is spreading non-face-to-face culture. The reality is that the vulnerable are complaining of discomfort in non-face-to-face culture. The core of the digital environment is smartphones. Digital life is spreading around smartphones. Technology that drives the digital environment is the core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The technologies are lot, big data, Blockchain, Smart Mobility, and AI. Related technologies based on these technologies include digital ID cards, digital keys, and nfc technologies. Non-rechargeable wrist-type smart bands based on related technologies can be conceptualized. Through these technologies, blind people can easily access books and manage their ID cards conveniently and efficiently. In particular, access authentication is required wherever you go due to COVID-19, which can be used as a useful tool for the elderly who feel uncomfortable using smartphones. It can also eliminate the inconvenience of the elderly finding or losing their keys.

  • The study aims to develop a assessment tool to provide the in-home disabled in a local community with appropriate services in consideration of physical, emotional, social and environmental circumstances. After collection of assesment data of 200 in-home disabled through use of the tool, a desire-extracting algorithm was developed to provide a service to real needs through the use of decision tree analysis on data mining. The study was conducted for Five months from June 2006 through October 2006, and it is divided into development of an assessment tool and extraction of real needs through the use of the tool. The basic framework of the development of the tool was established through the examination of related literature, the subjective satisfaction of the assessment tool and items were developed through the use of a focus group and experts, and verification was implemented through the use of statistics to confirm the validity of the tool.   • The Status of Mobility Disadvantaged Persons with Physical Disabilities & Suggested Improvements in Chungnam (충남지역 지체장애인의 이동권 실태 및 개선방안 연구)

    • This study investigated the general characteristics of mobility disadvantaged persons with disabilities, and to suggest implications to ensure personal mobility with the greatest possible independence for the physically disabled in community. The survey questionnaire included the categories as follows: the general characteristics of the participants, the status of outing and mobility, usage of low-floor buses & taxi for the disabled, service improvement, and mobile support center. Data collected from 219 with physical disabilities were analyzed for this purpose by using descriptive statistics. The study results showed that 54.6% of the total tended to go out everyday, and 17.0% rarely. 53.4% could go out without any assistance, and the major obstacles not to go out were stairs and inconvenience of public transportation. 26.9% used low-floor buses, and 71.1% preferred to use taxi for the disabled. The average waiting time for the usage of low-flow buses and taxi was 66.57 minute and 42.65 minute, separately. 78.7% insisted that the function of mobile support center in the community should be expanded, whereas only 49.8% recognized the role of mobile support center. Based on the study results, the researchers suggested to facilitate access by persons with disabilities to mobility aids, and to improve the actual state of pedestrian environment. In addition, the function of mobile support center should be expanded to help the mobility disadvantaged persons live independently in community, thereby contributing to the promotion of their quality of life.
