Diagnostic imaging of isolated splenic torsion in two dogs (개 비장염전의 진단영상 2례)

  • Isolated splenic torsion is a rare disease, which is usually produced in deep-chest large breed dogs. A five-year old Pitbull terrier and a four-year old Yorkshire terrier were diagnosed as isolated splenic torsion with chronic form. Leukocytosis, anemia and elevated hepatic enzyme level were found in blood test and a large amount of ascites was observed. Abdominal radiography revealed splenomegaly and ascites and ultrasonography showed diffuse hypoechoic change of spleen in case 1 and hyperechoic change of spleen with focal hypoechoic regions in case 2, thromboembolism of splenic vein and abnormal direction of spleen. To identify the underlying disease of isolated splenic torsion, the histopathologic examination of excised spleen is essential and splenic neoplasia was found in case 2. Chronic isolated splenic torsion shows nonspecific clinical signs and laboratory results. Through diagnostic procedure, particularly ultrasonography, prompt diagnosis may be achieved and improve the prognosis of the patient.

  • Kinetic studies for the reactions of Y-aryl phenyl chlorothiophosphates with X-pyridines have been carried out in acetonitrile at $35.0^{\circ}C$. The Hammett and Bronsted plots for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles are biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = 3-Ph, while the Hammett plots for substituent Y variations in the substrates are biphasic concave downwards (and partially upwards) with a break point at Y = H. The signs and magnitudes of the cross-interaction constant (${\rho}_{XY}$) are strongly dependent upon the nature of substituents, X and Y. The proposed mechanism is a stepwise process with a rate-limiting step change from bond breaking with the weaker electrophiles to bond formation with the stronger eletrophiles. The nonlinear free energy correlations of biphasic concave upward plots for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles are rationalized by a change in the attacking direction of the nucleophile from a backside with less basic pyridines to a frontside attack with more basic pyridines.

Effects of Secondary Flow on the Turbulence Structure of a Flat Plate Wake (2차유동이 평판후류의 난류구조에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of secondary flow on the structure of a turbulent wake generated by a flat plate was investigated experimentally. The secondary flow was induced In a $90^{\circ}$ curved duct in which the flat plate wake generator was installed. The wake generator was installed in such a way that the wake velocity gradient exists in the span wise direction of the curved duct. Measurements were made in the plane containing the mean radius of curvature where pressure gradient and curvature effects were small compared with the secondary flow effect. All six components of the Reynolds stresses were measured in the curved duct. Turbulence intensities in the curved wake are higher than those in the straight wake due to an increase of the turbulent kinetic energy production by the secondary flow. In the inner wake region, shear stress and strain in the plane containing the velocity gradient of the wake show opposite signs with respect to each other, so that eddy viscosity Is negative in this region. This indicates that gradient-diffusion type turbulence models are not appropriate to simulate this type of flow.

  • This paper presents the findings of a visiting scholarship research that was carried out at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Based on the extensive literature review, government databases and international statistics, it introduces an analytical framework for comparison of the national innovation systems (NIS) of China and Australia in regards to their strengths and weaknesses. This is done through individual examination and comparison of functions of typical institutions involved in innovation to reveal the structural characteristics and performances of the two systems. The interactions among these institutions are then analysed to illustrate their dynamics and efficiency. The comparison has shown clearly that China's NIS has several weaknesses and gaps due to its developing and transition stage. There are positive signs that Chinese Government has recognised the nature and scope of the problem and seems to work in the right direction. This paper aims to support this process by providing some recommendations that could help bridge the gaps between the NISs of China and Australia. Due to the fact that both, China's and Australia's NISs, have their unique characteristics but share numerous complementary features, there is a large potential for further cooperation between the two national innovation systems.

Driver Characteristics and Workload according to Changing Driving Environment and Types of Steering Wheel (도로 주행환경 변화와 핸들종류에 따른 운전자 부하 및 행동특성)

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the driving performance and workload according to changing driving environment and types of steering wheel. Twelve drivers who participated in this study consisted of two groups; six Japanese as the left-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on left-hand side of the road, and six Europeans, Americans, and Korean as the right-lane drivers who was accustomed to driving on right-hand side of the road. They were asked to operate a driving simulator while using two different types of steering wheel (for the left-hand side driving and the right-hand side driving). During the experiment, a range of data were measured including driving performance, mental workload, and eye movements which were recorded in order to identify the amount of time looking towards the in-vehicle route guidance. Results indicated that the use of the steering wheel by parallel moving led to increase high attentional demand and worse glance behavior to traffic signs for the left-lane drivers. In the case of the right-lane drivers, the effects by changing driving direction were more effective than the types of steering wheel due to their habit or traits.

  • This study aims to develop the traffic accident models by circular intersection type using count data model. The number of accident, the number of fatal and injured persons(FSI), and EPDO are calculated from the traffic accident data of TAAS. The circular intersection accident models are developed through Poisson and negative binomial regression analysis. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the null hypotheses that there are differences in the number of traffic accidents, FSI and EPDO by type of circular intersections are rejected. Second, the scale of intersection(median, large), number of approach road, mean width and length of exit road, area of the circulating roadway and central island are selected as factors influencing the number of traffic accidents, FSI and EPDO in rotary. Third, the scale of intersection(median), guide signs(limited speed, direction, roundabout), number of approach road, entry angle, area of the intersection and central island are adopted as factors influencing the number of traffic accidents, FSI and EPDO in roundabout. Finally, transferring from rotary to roundabout could be expected to make the accident decrease.

The Role of Servicescape Considering the Customer's Participation and Customer Experience : Focusing on Theme Park Service (서비스의 고객 참여와 고객 경험을 반영한 서비스스케이프의 역할 : 테마파크서비스를 중심으로)

  • In this study, the structure model including the role of servicescape focusing on service participation and customer experience in theme park service is demonstrated empirically. The servicescape construct of theme park service includes three factors such as ambient atmosphere, functionality and layout, and sign, symbols etc. Customer service participation includes suggestion, passion and citizenship. And the emotional and convenience factors are included to customer experience. As an analysis result of examining the 241 respondents of university students, some implications were described. Customer satisfaction is greatly influenced by customer's participation in theme park service, and customer's participation has a significant effect on improving customer satisfaction by inducing customer experiences. It is desirable to consider servicescape priority in order of signs and symbols, ambient atmosphere, functionality and layout factor. The customer's participation in service is a passion for participation, citizenship, and suggesting for problems or improvements. Therefore, participants in planning and designing servicescape in the future, including IT services, should be creative in the direction of inducing various participations of customers and creating positive experiences for customers. In order to apply these findings to the composition of servicescape, the participation of various experts is required. Also, the expertise and competences of various fields must be gathered for each issues, and a more creative and scientific approach is required.

Bayesian quantile regression analysis of Korean Jeonse deposit

  • Jeonse is a unique property rental system in Korea in which a tenant pays a part of the price of a leased property as a fixed amount security deposit and gets back the entire deposit when the tenant moves out at the end of the tenancy. Jeonse deposit is very important in the Korean real estate market since it is directly related to the residential property sales price and it is a key indicator to predict future real estate market trend. Jeonse deposit data shows a skewed and heteroscedastic distribution and the commonly used mean regression model may be inappropriate for the analysis of Jeonse deposit data. In this paper, we apply a Bayesian quantile regression model to analyze Jeonse deposit data, which is non-parametric and does not require any distributional assumptions. Analysis results show that the quantile regression coefficients of most explanatory variables change dramatically for different quantiles. The regression coefficients of some variables have different signs for different quantiles, implying that even the same variable may affect the Jeonse deposit in the opposite direction depending on the amount of deposit.

  • The CLI(Consumer Life Information) is a new study to unite and create new values recognizing the importance of knowledge and information in information-oriented society based on domestic science and digital technology. The objective of this research is to define academic identity of consuming science and CLI, to analyze the theory, styles, manners, psychology and the concept of consumption, which is the base of consuming life, and to present the direction of CLI with tasks and three major axises of CLI. Nowadays, international order demands new paradigms from human beings. Especially, vision and creation of the values are settled as methodological ways considering the economic power. The CLI should be on the same horizon adjusting social change of pointing values and quality in consuming patterns of diversity and variety. Therefore, I would suggest the ways for the CLI to head for as follows. First, it is to perceive the 3 major Axises & Task of CLI. Second, it is to develope service (experiencing goods) and goods that can lead consuming lives. Third, it is to study merchandising strategy, to create new signs and symbols of goods, and to collaborate of R & D(reseach and developement) and Business. Fourth, it is to head for globalization. Consequantly, this study will be helpful to establish the theory of relationship between producer and consumer in fashion business included research and developments of qualitative goods.

  • As location recognition for autonomous vehicles develops, the need for a precise map for autonomous driving has increased. A precise map must be built based upon accurate position. Recent studies have accelerated research in this area by using various sensors that calculate the accurate position by comparing and recognizing objects around the roads. However, application of such methods is limited because these studies only take objects with significant verticality into consideration. Thus, new research is needed to overcome the limitations: a method that is not constrained by the existence of certain types of surrounding objects shall be proposed. Most roads contain road marking information, such as lanes, direction signs, and pedestrian crossings. Such information on the road surface is a valuable resource for building a precise map. This paper proposes a method of building a precise map by using road marking information.
