  • Objective: Owing to the availability of 3D software, scanners, and printers, clinicians are encouraged to produce in-office aligners. Recently, a new direct-printing resin (Tera Harz TC-85DAC) has been introduced. Studies on its mechanical characteristics and biological effects have been published; however, evidence on its efficacy in orthodontic treatment remains scarce. This pilot study aimed to investigate the accuracy of teeth movement achieved with direct-printed aligners. Methods: Seventeen patients (eight males and nine females) with a mean age of 27.67 ± 8.95 years, presenting with dental rotations < 30° and spaces/crowding < 5 mm, were recruited for this study. The teeth movement was planned starting from a T0 digital dental cast. The 3D direct-printed aligners were produced using Tera Harz TC-85DAC resin. Once the orthodontic treatment was completed, a final digital cast was obtained (T1). The planned teeth positions were then superimposed onto the T0 and T1 digital models. The differences between the programmed movements and the achieved overall torque, tip, rotation, and transverse dimensions were assessed using the paired t test or Wilcoxon's signed rank test. Results: The overall accuracies for torque, tip, and rotation were 67.6%, 64.2%, and 72.0%, respectively. The accuracy of the change in transverse diameter was 99.6%. Conclusions: Within the limits of the present pilot study (difficulties with abnormally shaped teeth and use of attachments), it can be concluded that 3D printed aligners can be successfully printed in-house and utilized for mildly crowded cases, with a comparable accuracy of tooth movement to that of other aligners.

  • In this paper, we introduce and study the notions of weakly ⊕-supplemented modules, weakly D2 modules and weakly D2-covers. A right R-module M is called weakly ⊕-supplemented if every non-small submodule of M has a supplement that is not essential in M, and module MR is called weakly D2 if it satisfies the condition: for every s ∈ S and s ≠ 0, if there exists n ∈ ℕ such that sn ≠ 0 and Im(sn) is a direct summand of M, then Ker(sn) is a direct summand of M. The class of weakly ⊕-supplemented-modules and weakly D2 modules contains ⊕-supplemented modules and D2 modules, respectively, and they are equivalent in case M is uniform, and projective, respectively.

  • A new piezoceramic $d_{15}$ shear-induced torsion actuation mechanism representative benchmark is proposed and its experimentations and corresponding 3D finite element (FE) simulations are conducted. For this purpose, a long and thin smart sandwich cantilever beam is dimensioned and built so that it can be used later for either validating analytical Saint Venant-type solutions or for analyzing arm or blade-based smart structures and systems applications. The sandwich beam core is formed by two adjacent rows of 8 oppositely axially polarized d15 shear piezoceramic patches, and its faces are dimensionally identical and made of the same glass fiber reinforced polymer composite material. Quasi-static and static experimentations were made using a point laser sensor and a scanning laser vibrometer, while the 3D FE simulations were conducted using the commercial software $ABAQUS^{(R)}$. The measured transverse deflection by both sensors showed strong nonlinear and hysteretic (static only) variation with the actuation voltage, which cannot be caught by the linear 3D FE simulations.

  • This paper proposes two kinds of single-balanced direct conversion quadrature receivers using selfoscillating LMVs in which the voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) itself operates as a mixer while generating an oscillation. The two LMVs are complementary coupled and series coupled to generate the quadrature oscillating signals, respectively. Using a 65 nm CMOS technology, the proposed quadrature receivers are designed and simulated. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz frequency, the complementary coupled quadrature receiver achieves the phase noise of -28 dBc/Hz at 1KHz offset and -109 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. The other series coupled receiver achieves the phase noise of -31 dBc/Hz at 1KHz offset and -109 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency. The simulated voltage conversion gain of the two single-balanced receivers is 37 dB and 45 dB, respectively. The double-sideband noise figure of the two receivers is 5.3 dB at 1 MHz offset. The quadrature receivers consume about 440 μW dc power from a 1.0-V supply.

  • This paper presents an ultra wide band(UWB) mixer using anti-parallel diode pair(APDP) with simulation and measurement results. The proposed mixer adopts the even-harmonic direct conversion mixing, which consists of a couple of filter, in-phase wilkinson power divider, wideband $45^{\circ}$ power divider, and APDP. The m mixer is operating over 3.1 to 4.8 GHz and producing quadrature(I/Q) outputs with a conversion loss of 18 dB and input third order intercept point($IIP_3$) of 15 dBm. I/Q outputs also have difference of about 0.5 dB and phase difference of ${\times}3^{\circ}$ and $P_{1dB}$ of 2 dBm.

  • In this paper, transmitter and receiver modules for free space optical interconnection are implemented and characterized. In the transmitter module, bias circuitry which inject current into the direct modulated laser diode is fabricated and in the receiver module, p-i-n diode is integrated with an MMIC amplifying stage. Laser diode has a direct-modulated bandwidth of 2 GHz at 1.4 Ith bias while p-i-n diode and amplifying stage has a bandwidth of 1.3 GHz and 1.5 GHz, repectively. Optical interconnection has a bandwidth of 1.3 GHz and linearly transmit modulated voltage signal up to 1.5 Vp-p. Measured loss of optical interconnection is 5dB which is composed of optoelectronic conversion loss of 15 dB, electrical impedance mismatch loss of 6.7 dB in transmitter module and gain of 18 dB in receiver module. Seperation between transmitter and receiver can be extended up to 50 cm by using a lens.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D view design scheme which arranges 2D information in a 3D virtual space with a flexible interface and voice information. The scheme allows the user interface of the 2D image in 3D virtual space anytime from any view point. Voice information can be easily attached. It is this simple and efficient image and voice information arrangement in 3D virtual space that improves information transfer.

  • This paper presents an ultra wideband(UWB) direct conversion mixer for IEEE 802.15.3a applications with simulation and measurement results. Since the direct conversion mixing causes dc-offset and even-order distortion, the proposed mixer adopts an anti-parallel diode pairs(APDPs) to solve these problems. The proposed mixer consists of an in-phase wilkinson power divider over $3.1{\sim}4.8GHz$, a wideband $45^{\circ}$ power divider over $1.5{\sim}2.4GHz$, and miniatured band pass filters(BPFs) for RF-LO isolations. The conversion loss is optimized with impedance matchings between APDPs and wideband components. The measured mixer shows the conversion loss of 13.5 dB, input third-order intercept-point($IIP_3$) of 7 dBm, and 1-dB gam compression point($P_{1dB}$) of -4 dBm. Quadrature(I/Q) outputs have the magnitude difference of about 1 dB and phase difference of ${\pm}3^{\circ}$.

  • To efficiently execute 3D graphic APIs, such as OpenGL and Direct3D, special purpose arithmetic unit(SFU) which supports floating-point sine, cosine, reciprocal, inverse square root, base-two exponential, and logarithmic operations is designed. The SFU uses second order minimax approximation method and lookup table method to satisfy both error less than 2 ulp(unit in the last place) and high speed operation. The designed circuit has about 2.3-ns delay time under 65nm CMOS standard cell library and consists of about 23,300 gates. Due to its maximum performance of 400 MFLOPS and high accuracy, it can be efficiently applicable to mobile 3D graphics application.
