  • The novel integration method with programmable high-pass filter is suggested in order to solve the problem of integration for stator flux estimation in a stator flux oriented direct vector controlled induction motor drive system. The dc offset in a pure integrator is eliminated using high-pass filter with fixed time constant, and then time constant of programmable high-pass filter is controlled with a inverter frequency for integration in a wide frequency range, considering phase lag and attenuation due to both the hardware low-pass filter and high-pass filter. The proposed method is verified with the experimental results implemented by 32-bit DSP.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new ARMA model identification which estimate the parameters to make the current prediction error uncorrelated with the past one. As good properties of the proposed method, we show the uniqueness, consistency of the estimate and asymptotic normality of the estimation error. Via simulation results, we show that the proposed method give good estimates for various systems which have different power spectrum. Moreover, the estimation of gyroscope random errors shows that the proposed method is applicable to the real data.

  • In this paper, direct power control system for three-phase PFC AC/DC converter without the source voltage sensors is proposed. The sinusoidal input current and unity effective power factor are realised based on the estimated flux in the observer. Both active and reactive power calculated using estimated flux. The estimation of flux is performed based on the reduced-order virtual flux observer using the actual currents and the command control voltage. Moreover, source voltage sensors are replaced by a estimated flux. DC output voltage has been compensated by DC output ripple voltage estimation algorithm. The active and reactive powers estimation are performed based on the estimated flux and Phase angle. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • A grid voltage estimation method for modular plug-in active power decoupling (APD) circuits is proposed in this study as direct replacements of electrolytic capacitors. Since modular plug-in APD circuits cannot have additional grid voltage sensors and should be operated independently without information exchange with the front-end converter, it is impossible to obtain the phase information of the grid directly. Therefore, the proposed method uses the second-order harmonic component of the DC-link voltage to estimate the grid voltage necessary to control the APD circuit. By employing the proposed method, the concept of modular plug-in APD circuits can be realized and implemented without direct detection of the grid voltage. The experimental results based on hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) validate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

  • To understand forest structures, the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) instrument have been employed to measure and monitor forest canopy with feasibility of acquiring three dimensional canopy structure information. This study tried to examine the potential of GLAS dataset in measuring forest canopy structures, particularly maximum canopy height estimation. To estimate maximum canopy height using feasible GLAS dataset, we simply used difference between signal start and ground peak derived from Gaussian decomposition method. After estimation procedure, maximum canopy height was derived from airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and it was applied to evaluate the accuracy of that of GLAS estimation. In addition, several influences, such as topographical and biophysical factors, were analyzed and discussed to explain error sources of direct maximum canopy height estimation using GLAS data. In the result of estimation using direct method, a root mean square error (RMSE) was estimated at 8.15 m. The estimation tended to be overestimated when comparing to derivations of airborne LiDAR. According to the result of error occurrences analysis, we need to consider these error sources, particularly terrain slope within GLAS footprint, and to apply statistical regression approach based on various parameters from a Gaussian decomposition for accurate and reliable maximum canopy height estimation.

  • In order to assess hydrologic and nonpoint source pollutant behaviors in a watershed with Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model, the accuracy evaluation of SWAT model should be conducted prior to the application of it to a watershed. When calibrating and validating hydrological components of SWAT model, the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (EI) has been widely used. However, the EI value has been known as it is affected sensitively by big numbers among the range of numbers. In this study, a Web-based flow clustering EI estimation system using K-means clustering algorithm was developed and used for SWAT hydrology evaluation. Even though the EI of total streamflow was high, the EI values of hydrologic components (i.e., direct runoff and baseflow) were not high. Also when the EI values of flow group I and II (i.e., low and high value group) clustered from direct runoff and baseflow were computed, respectively, the EI values of them were much lower with negative EI values for some flow group comparison. The SWAT auto-calibration tool estimated values also showed negative EI values for most flow group I and II of direct runoff and baseflow although EI value of total streamflow was high. The result obtained in this study indicates that the SWAT hydrology component should be calibrated until all four positive EI values for each flow group of direct runoff and baseflow are obtained for better accuracy both in direct runoff and baseflow.

  • Body weights of 862 Angora goats between birth and 36 months of age, recorded on a semiyearly basis from 1988 to 2000, were used to estimate genetic, permanent environmental and phenotypic covariance functions. These functions were estimated by fitting a random regression model with 6th order polynomial for direct additive genetic and animal permanent environmental effects and 4th and 5th order polynomial for maternal genetic and permanent environmental effects, respectively. A phenotypic covariance function was estimated by modelling overall animal and maternal effects. The results showed that the most variable coefficient was the intercept for both direct and maternal additive genetic effects. The direct additive genetic (co)variances increased with age and reached a maximum at about 30 months, whereas the maternal additive genetic (co)variances increased rapidly from birth and reached a maximum at weaning, and then decreased with age. Animal permanent environmental (co)variances increased with age from birth to 30 months with lower rate before 12 months and higher rate between 12 and 30 months. Maternal permanent environmental (co)variances changed little before 6 months but then increased slowly and reached a maximum at about 30 months. These results suggested that the contribution of maternal additive genetic and permanent environmental effects to growth variation differed from those of direct additive genetic and animal permanent environmental effects not only in expression time, but also in action magnitude. The phenotypic (co)variance estimates increased with age from birth to 36 months of age.

  • This paper presents a detailed realization of direct torque controlled induction motor drive for elevator applications. The drive is controlled according to the well-known space vector modulated direct control scheme (SVM-DTC). As the elevator drives are usually equipped with speed sensors, flux estimation is carried out using a current model where two stator currents are measured and accurate instantaneous rotor speed measurement is used to overcome the need for measuring stator voltages. Speed profiling for a comfortable elevator ride and other supervisory control activities to provide smooth operation are also explained. The drive performance is examined and controllers' parameters are fine-tuned using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The blocks used for flux and torque estimation and control in the offline simulation are compiled for real-time using dSPACE Microlabox. The performance of the drive has been verified experimentally. The results show good performance under transient and steady state conditions.

  • Estimation of accident costs would set a sound criterion on which invest judgement for work improvement would be decided. Unfortunately, however, the professional agency and most companies in Korea still adopt the conventional cost estimation method based on Heinrich's theory would not be applicable any more since it was developed about a century ago. This research was carried out to confirm the validity of conventional accident cost estimation method. With 110 accident cases occurred in an autoglass manufacturing plant for last 7 years, post-accident treatment procedure was simplified as a model with several phases, and practical costs were analyzed case by case. The results showed that, as expected, the company should the largest portion of loss due to accidents, and that mean indirect cost were 10.10(${\pm}20.70$) times as much as direct cost estimated by conventional method. Therefore, finally, accident types and items influenced much on accidents costs were analyzed and discussed.
