EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON EMISSION CHARACTERISTICS AND ANALYSIS BY VARIOUS OXYGENATED FUELS IN A D.I. DIESEL ENGINE

  • This paper investigates the effect of oxygen composition in mixed fuel on the exhaust emissions for the direct injection diesel engine. These effects were tested to estimate the change in engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics when commercial diesel fuel and oxygenates blended fuels at a certain fuel and mixed ratio are used. Individual hydrocarbons $(C_1-C_6)$ in exhaust gases, as well as the total amount of hydrocarbons, were analyzed by using gas chromatography to find the mechanism by which smoke emission was remarkably reduced for various oxygenated fuels. The chromatograms between a diesel fuel and a diesel fuel blended DGM (diethylene glycol dimethyl ether), MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) and EGBE (ethylene glycol mono-n-butyl ether) were compared. The results showed that the number of individual hydrocarbons as well as the total number of hydrocarbons of oxygenated fuel reduced more remarkably than those of diesel fuel.

  • This paper describes the power performance and emission characteristics of the high speed direct injection diesel engine (2.9 litter displacements) driven by soybean oil asknown a bio diesel fuel. The results were compared to diesel fuel with blending bio diesel fuels. The soybean bio diesel fuel was added in the diesel fuel in concentration varying from 25% to 75% volume rates. We measured the emissions according to ECE 13 mode and full load, fixedengine speed. When the 25% bio diesel fuel was used, NOx emission at the ECE 13 mode test slightly decreased compared with diesel base engine. Over engine speed of 2000 rpm, the level of unburned hydrocarbon(HC) and carbon monoxide(CO) were the same to the diesel engine. Smoke emission decreased asthe blending bio diesel fuel rate increased.

  • Compression ignition diesel engine can reduce carbon emission than gasoline engine in case of high efficiency, output and durability. So, compression ignition diesel engine is used in various fields such as automobiles, industries and so on. Due to reducing of emission exhaust by Developing of injection and combustion type of diesel engine, emission of pollution substance is developed compared the past. Moreover, its efficiency and reduce of carbon emission is better than gasoline engine and it is used in power source of industries, transports and others because of its high efficiency and durability nowadays. In this study, we experiment by making and designing of compression ignition diesel engine witch has air-cooling, 2 cylinder and 2 strokes.

  • We reports improved monitoring performance of Self plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (SP-OES) by augmenting a by-pass tube to a conventional straight (or single) tube type self plasma reactor. SP-OES has been used as a tool for the monitoring of plasma chemistry indirectly in plasma process system. The benefits of SP-OES are low cost and easy installation, but some semiconductor industries who adopted commercialized SP-OES product experiencing less sensitivity and slow sensor response. OH out-gas chemistry monitoring was performed to have a direct comparison of a conventional single type tube and a by-pass type tube, and fluid dynamic simulation on the improved hardware design was also followed. It is observed faster pumping out of OH from the chamber in the by-pass type SP-OES.

Analysis of $Si_3N_4$ Ultra Fine Powder Using High-pressure Acid Digestion and Slurry Injection in Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry

  • Si3N4 powder has been analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The sample was dissolved by high-pressure acid digestion with HF, H2SO4 (1+1), and HNO3 mix ture. This technique is well suited for the impurity analysis of Si3N4 because the matrix interference is eliminated. A round-robin samples trace elements, such as Ca, W, Co, Al, Fe, Mg, and Na, were determined. For the direct analysis, slurry nebulization of 0.96 mm Si3N4 powder also has been studied by ICP-AES. Emission intensities of Fe were measured as ICP operational conditions were changed. Significant signal difference between slurry particles and aqueous solution was observed in the present experiment. Analytical results of slurry injection and high-pressure acid digestion were compared. For the use of aqueous standard solution for calibration, k-factor was determined to be 1.71 for further application.

  • In this study, we have investigated waste incinerators which are one of the major HAPs emission sources. In order to obtain more reliable HAPs emission data from waste incinerators, direct sampling for the possible pollutants from the stack was carried out and the analysis was performed. The purpose of study was to understand the emission status from waste incinerators and recognize the problems and finally to set up a strategy to reduce the HAPs emissions from waste incinerators. The emission concentrations of 8 species of heavy metals and 16 species of PAHs have been analyzed for the first time in Korea. Not only the emission characteristics of HAPs from waste incinerators were identified, but also the analysis of reduction efficiencies for control devices such as BF and wet scrubbing systems was carried out.

  • The level of nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), a long-lived greenhouse gas, in atmosphere has increased mainly due to anthropogenic sources, especially application of nitrogen fertilizers. Quantifying $N_2O$ emission in the agricultural field is essential to develop national inventories of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission. The objective of this study was to develop an emission factor to estimate the direct $N_2O$ emission from an agricultural field cultivated with the Chinese cabbage during autumn season in 2010-2012. Emission factor of $N_2O$ calculated over three years experiment using accumulated $N_2O$ emission, nitrogen fertilization rate, and background $N_2O$ emission was $0.0058{\pm}0.00254kg\;N_2O-N\;kg^{-1}\;N$. More extensive studies need to be conducted to develop $N_2O$ emission factors for other upland crops in the various regions of Korea because $N_2O$ emission is influenced by many factors including climate characteristics, soil properties, and agricultural practices as well as crop species.

  • 2006년 우리나라의 에너지 사용은 총수입액(28%), 해외의존(97%), 온실가스배출(83%-year 2004)의 비중을 차지하고 있어, 경제나 환경 정책에서 매우 중요한 산업분야이다. 그러나 현실적으로 국내 에너지사용에 따른 온실가스 배출 추계는 산업별 사용량에 국제기구가 권고한 계수를 곱해 사용하는 수준에 머물고 있다. 이러한 수준으로는 post Kyoto Protocol을 통한 개도국의 참여를 강제하려는 새로운 패러다임에 대응할 논리와 정책을 바르게 수립할 수 없다. 본 연구는 한국은행이 발간한 2000년 산업연관표를 기반으로 이형단위 산업연관표를 작성하고, 이를 통해 경제 구성 부문별로 에너지 사용에 따른 온실가스 배출 특성을 분석하였다. 분석은 네가지 측면에서 이루어졌으며, 이는 섹터별 온실가스 배출 밀도 추정, 각 그룹에서 온실가스 배출을 야기한 연료원별 기여도 측정, 산업별 배출계수의 산정, 그리고 국가 총배출량 추정이다. 여기서 추정한 배출량은 온실가스 배출에 관한 국가 공식 통계치와 비교 검증하였다. 연구 접근법은 에너지의 직접사용 과정에서 배출되는 온실가스의 양 뿐만 아니라 배출을 유발하는 간접원인까지도 분석하고 있어, 최근 확산되고 있는 전과정분석(Life Cycle Analysis) 개념에 적합한 모형이다. 이 모형은 향후 온실가스 저감 정책 수립의 중요한 기반이 될 것으로 기대한다.

Preconcentration of Cd by Continuous Hydroxide Precipitation-Dissolution in Atomic Emission Spectrometry

  • On-line preconcentration by direct precipitation with hydroxide has been developed and applied for the analysis of Cd in Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry. Cadmium is continuously precipitated with hydroxide and dissolved by nitric acid in on-line mode. Currently, the enrichment factor is more than 90 times for 20.0 mL of sample and could be further increased very easily. For a large sample throughput, 1.0 mL of sample loop is used and the enrichment factor is 4.5 with the sampling speed of 15/hr. The method has been applied to the analysis of NIST reference sample and has yielded good results with the certified value.
