Effect of C18-polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on Their Direct Incorporation into the Rumen Bacterial Lipids and CLA Production In vitro

  • An in vitro study was conducted to determine the effect of C18-polyunsaturated fatty acid on direct incorporation into the rumen bacteria, bio-hydrogenation and production of CLA in vitro. Sixty milligrams of linoleic acid ($C_{18:2}$) or linolenic acid ($C_{18:3}$) were absorbed into the 0.5 g cellulose powder was added to the 150 ml culture solution consisting of 120 ml McDougall's buffer and 30 ml strained rumen fluid. Four uCi of 1-$^{14}C_{18:2}$ or 1-$^{14}C_{18:3}$ (1 uCi/15 mg each fatty acid) were also added to the corresponding fatty acids to estimate the direct incorporation into the bacterial lipids. The culture solution was then incubated anaerobically in a culture jar with stirrer at 39$^{\circ}C$ for 12 h. Ammonia concentration and pH of the culture solution were slightly influenced by the fatty acids. Amount of fatty acid incorporated into the bacteria was 1.20 mg and 0.43 mg/30 ml rumen fluid for $C_{18:2}$ and $C_{18:3}$, respectively during 12 h incubation. Slightly increased CLA (sum of cis-9, trans-11 and cis-10, trans-12 $C_{18:2}$) was obtained from the $C_{18:3}$ addition compared to that from $C_{18:2}$ after 12 h incubation in vitro.

직접패턴형 SnO2 박막의 전도성 나노구조체 첨가연구 (Direct-Patternable SnO2 Thin Films Incorporated with Conducting Nanostructure Materials)

  • There have been many efforts to modify and improve the properties of functional thin films by hybridization with nano-sized materials. For the fabrication of electronic circuits, micro-patterning is a commonly used process. For photochemical metal-organic deposition, photoresist and dry etching are not necessary for microscale patterning. We obtained direct-patternable $SnO_2$ thin films using a photosensitive solution containing Ag nanoparticles and/or multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). The optical transmittance of direct-patternable $SnO_2$ thin films decreased with introduction of nanomaterials due to optical absorption and optical scattering by Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs, respectively. The crystallinity of the $SnO_2$ thin films was not much affected by an incorporation of Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs. In the case of mixed incorporation with Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs, the sheet resistance of $SnO_2$ thin films decreased relative to incorporation of either single component. Valence band spectral analyses of the nano-hybridized $SnO_2$ thin films showed a relation between band structural change and electrical resistance. Direct-patterning of $SnO_2$ hybrid films with a line-width of 30 ${\mu}m$ was successfully performed without photoresist or dry etching. These results suggest that a micro-patterned system can be simply fabricated, and the electrical properties of $SnO_2$ films can be improved by incorporating Ag nanoparticles and MWNTs.

  • 4차 암모늄염 촉매 존재하에서 poly(glycidyl methacrylate)[poly(GMA)]에 이산화탄소를 직접 부가시켜 poly[(1,3-dioxolane-2-oxo-4-yl)methyl methacrylate][poly(DOMA)]를 합성하였다. 4차 암모늄염 촉매는 높은 이산화탄소 고정화 효율을 나타내었으며, 양이온의 크기가 클수록, 짝음이온의 친핵성이 강할수록 높은 촉매 활성을 나타내었다. 또한 반응온도가 높을수록 높은 이산화탄소 부가율을 나타내었다. 한편 고압 회분 반응기에서 이산화탄소의 압력변화를 관찰함으로써 실시한 속도론적 고찰 결과 반응속도는 poly(GMA)와 이산화탄소의 농도에 대하여 각각 1차 반응이었고, 이때 반응속도상수 k는 $0.69L/mol{\cdot}h$이었다. DMSO를 용매로 사용한 경우 $80^{\circ}C$에서의 $CO_2$의 Henry 상수 H'는 $6.8{\times}10^{-4}mol/L{\cdot}KPa$로 나타났다.

입체면 복합 폴리머 소재의 전도성 패턴 제작 기술 (Conductivity Pattern Manufacture Technology of Solid Surface Compound Polymer Material)

  • This study developed the conductivity pattern of solid surface using laser direct pattern and compound polymer material technology. For development direct patterning system of solid surface, we used the laser power stabilizer, the dynamic focusing, 3D scanner S/W and the auto aligning techniques. Also For conductivity pattern, we are developed compound polymer material with additive by electro-less plating. These technologies are already used commercially. However operation and control integrated system for direct patterning of solid surface are not yet developed. The objective of this paper is to introduce the laser direct structuring for simple process improvement instead complex PCB process, and develop the operating stability and integration system. Also we implemented new application of laser direct structuring through sample manufacture.

  • The direct growth OMVPE system, designed specificallyfor direct growth of Hg1-xCdxTe using annular rectant inlet inverted verticla (ARIIV) reactor, was constructed. This paper presents the detailed technical approach on a newly designed ARIIV reactor that increases Hg incorporation, imposes uniformity, and avoids the needs for temperature processing to create alloys by inter diffusion approach.

Human Cytomegalovirus Inhibition of Interferon Signal Transduction

  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a beta-herpesvirus with worldwide distribution, exhibits host persistence, a distinguishing characteristic of all herpesviruses. This persistence is dependent upon restricted gene expression in infected cells as well as the ability of productively infected cells to escape from normal cell-mediated anti-viral immunosurveillance. Type I (IFN-α/β) and type II (IFN-γ) interferons are major components of the innate defense system against viral infection. They are potent inducers of MHC class I and II antigens and of antigen processing proteins. Additionally, IFNS mediate direct antiviral effects through induction effector molecules that block viral infection and replications such as 2′, 5-oligoadenylate synthetase (2, 5-OAS). IFNS function through activation of well-defined signal transduction pathways that involve phosphorylation of constituent proteins and ultimate formation of active transcription factors. Recent studies have shown that a number of diverse viruses, including CMV, EBV, HPV mumps and Ebola, are capable of inhibiting IFN-mediated signal transduction through a variety of mechanisms. As an example, CMV infection inhibits the ability of infected cells Is transcribe HLA class I and II antigens as well as the antiviral effector molecules 2, 5-OAS and MxA I. EMSA studies have shown that IFN-α and IFN-γ are unable to induce complete signal transduction in the presence of CMV infection, phenomena that are associated with specific decreases in JAKl and p48. Viral inhibition of IFN signal transduction represents a new mechanistic paradigm for increased viral survival, a paradigm predicting widespread consequences in the case of signal transduction factors common to multiple cytokine pathways.

Incorporation of collapse safety margin into direct earthquake loss estimate

  • An attempt has been made to incorporate the concept of collapse safety margin into the procedures proposed in the performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) framework for direct earthquake loss estimation, in which the collapse probability curve obtained from incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is mathematically characterized with the S-type fitting model. The regressive collapse probability curve is then used to identify non-collapse cases and collapse cases. With the assumed lognormal probability distribution for non-collapse damage indexes, the expected direct earthquake loss ratio is calculated from the weighted average over several damage states for non-collapse cases. Collapse safety margin is shown to be strongly related with sustained damage endurance of structures. Such endurance exhibits a strong link with expected direct earthquake loss. The results from the case study on three concrete frames indicate that increase in cross section cannot always achieve a more desirable output of collapse safety margin and less direct earthquake loss. It is a more effective way to acquire wider collapse safety margin and less direct earthquake loss through proper enhancement of reinforcement in structural components. Interestingly, total expected direct earthquake loss ratio seems to be insensitive a change in cross section. It has demonstrated a consistent correlation with collapse safety margin. The results also indicates that, if direct economic loss is seriously concerned, it is of much significance to reduce the probability of occurrence of moderate and even severe damage, as well as the probability of structural collapse.

바나듐함유 제올라이트의 수열결정화 및 2차처리합성 (Hydrothermal crystallization and secondary synthesis of vanadium containing zeolites)

  • 직접 수열합성법과 변조된 처리법을 이용하여 세공경이 큰 제올라이트의 결정구조내에 바나듐원자가 치환되도록 하였다. 제올라이트 골격에 바나듐이 도입되었는지의 여부를 기기분석을 통하여 시험하였다. X선회절분석의 결과, 바나듐이 제율라이트의 구조중에 도입되면 결정골격중의 실리콘원자 대신 치환되어 결정단위세포의 확장을 나타내었다. 또한 FTIR, UV-Vis 및 Si-MAS-NMR 스펙트럼결과는 제올라이트 골격내로의 바나듐의 도입을 강하게 됫받침하였다. 제올라이트중의 알루미늄을 산처리로 용출시키면, 격자에 빈자리를 제공하여 2차수열처리법에 의한 바나듐의 도입을 가능케 하였다.

축산분뇨 농지환원을 위한 적정관리방안 (Development of Guidelines for Animal Waste Land Application to Minimize Water Quality Impacts)

  • Land application of manure compost is considered one of the widely-used animal waste management practices. Many livestock farms adopt composting for their animal waste disposal and apply the compost to crop fields. While standard rates have been established based on researches with respect to land application of manure compost recently, there have been few discussions on water quality impact of the application. Water quality impact should be taken into account in land applications of manure compost. In this study, management practices were proposed based on the investigation of water quality of leachate from manure compost under rainfall simulation, field studies, and monitoring runoff water quality from farm fields after land application of animal waste. The concentrations of major water quality parameters of the leachate were significantly high, whereas those of runoff from soils after tillage for soil incorporation, were not affected by the application based on a series of experiments. Runoff water from farm fields after land application also showed high concentrations of pollutants. Appropriate management practices should be employed to minimize pollutant loading from manure applied fields. Proposed major management practices include 1) application of recommended amounts, 2) proper tillage for complete soil and manure incorporation, 3) field management to prevent excessive soil erosion, 4) complete diversion of inflow into the field from outside, 5) implementation of vegetative buffer strips near boundaries, and 6) prevention of direct discharge of runoff water front fields Into streams.

Investigation of Oxygen Incorporation in AlGaN/GaN Heterostructures

  • Direct evidence on the incorporation of high concentration of oxygen into undoped AlGaN layers for the AlGaN/GaN heterostuctures is provided by scanning photoemission microscopy using synchrotron radiation. In-situ annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$ resulted in a significant increase in the oxygen concentration at the AlGaN surface due to the predominant formation of Al-O bonds. The oxygen incorporation into the AlGaN layers resulting from the high reactivity of Al to oxygen can enhance the tunneling-assisted transport of electrons at the metal/AlGaN interface, leading to the reduction of the Schottky barrier height and the increase of the sheet carrier concentration near the AlGaN/GaN interface.
