This study proposed a high efficiency DC-DC converter with a new current doubler rectifier for fuel-cell systems for use with the Nexa(310-0027) PEMFC from the Ballard Co. The proposed high efficiency DC-DC converter for the fuel-cell system generated ZVS by applying partial resonance and using a phase shift PWM control method. Constantly switching frequency, loss of switching, peak current, and peak voltage were reduced by this system. In addition to this system, two inductors were attached to a rectifier circuit allowing it to be able to provide the direct current(DC) and DC voltage safely to a load with reduced ripple components. Also, by using the newly proposed current doubler rectifier, the high frequency DC-DC converter for the fuel cell system was capable of reaching a highest efficiency of 92[%] as compared to 88.3[%] efficiency in previous results, which means that efficiency increased 3.7[%]. The overall results were confirmed by a simulation and laboratory experiment.
Due to the high efficiency and compact mechanical structure, direct drive variable speed generators are used for power conversion in wind turbines. The wind energy conversion system (WECS) considered in this paper consists of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), uncontrolled rectifier, dc-dc boost converter controlled with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and adaptive hysteresis controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). For high utilization of the converter's power capability and stabilizing voltage and power flow, constant DC-link voltage is essential. Step and search MPPT algorithm which senses the rectified voltage ($V_{DC}$) alone and controls the same is used to effectively maximize the output power. The adaptive hysteresis band current control is characterized by fast dynamic response and constant switching frequency. With MPPT and adaptive hysteresis band current control in VSI, the DC link voltage is maintained constant under variable wind speeds and transient grid currents respectively.
This paper proposes an active-clamp ac-dc converter with direct power conversion that has a simple structure and achieves high efficiency. The proposed converter is derived by integrating the step-down ac chopper and the output-voltage doubler. The proposed converter provides direct ac-dc conversion and dc output voltage without using any full-bridge diode rectifier. The step-down ac chopper using an active-clamp mechanism serves to clamp the voltage spike across the main switches and provides zero-voltage turn-on switching. The resonant-current path formed by the leakage inductance of the transformer and the resonant capacitor of the output-voltage doubler achieves the zero-current turn-off switching of the output diodes. The operation principle of the converter is analyzed and verified. A 500W prototype is implemented to show the performance of the proposed converter. The prototype provides maximum efficiency of 95.1% at the full load.
Properties of hafnium nitride (HfN) coatings are affected by deposition conditions, most often by the sputtering technique. Appropriate use of different magnetron sputtering modes allows control of the structural development of the film, thereby enabling adjustment of its properties. This study compared properties of HfN coatings deposited by direct current magnetron sputtering (dcMS), mid-frequency direct current magnetron sputtering (mfMS), and inductively coupled plasma-assisted magnetron sputtering (ICPMS) systems. The microstructure, crystalline, and mechanical properties of these HfN coatings were investigated by field emission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and nanoindentation measurements. HfN coatings deposited using ICPMS showed smooth and highly dense microstructures, whereas those deposited by dcMS showed rough and columnar structures. Crystalline structures of HfN coatings deposited using ICPMS showed a single δ-HfN phase, whereas those deposited using dcMS and mfMS showed a mixed δ-HfN and HfN0.4 phases. Their performance were increased in the order of dcMS < mfMS < ICPMS, with ICPMS achieving a value of 47.0 GPa, surpassing previously reported results.
This paper presents DC voltage recovery time improvement method in DC link of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) with offshore wind farm. The wind farm should be satisfied Low Voltage Ride Through(LVRT) control strategy when grid faults occur. The LVRT control strategy indicates actions which have to be executed according to the voltage dip ratio and the fault duration. However, The LVRT control strategy makes between wind farm and power system through DC Link voltage when grid fault occurs. The de-loading scheme is one of the method to control the DC voltage. But de-loading scheme need to long DC voltage recovery time. Thus, this paper proposes an improved de-loading scheme and we analysis DC voltage and active power reference through a simulation.
This work is concerned with the formation behavior of PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) films on Al6082 alloy under the application of direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) in an alkaline solution. Arc initiation voltage became much lower by the application of AC than DC, and arc initiation time became shorter under DC than AC. The number of pores present in the PEO films was much larger than that on the surface, irrespective of DC and AC. It was also found that the number of pores in the PEO films formed under AC was more than that under DC and the size of pores is smaller under AC than DC. During the formation of PEO films, a lot of heat was generated and solution temperature increased more rapidly under DC than under AC which is attributed to high PEO film formation voltage under DC than AC.

The breaking of a circuit in DC grid could pose a challenge because of the absence of zero-crossing instant for both current and voltage when a fault occurs. An additional fault current limiting function will be very helpful for reducing the burden of the DC circuit breaker by limiting the fault current to a reasonable value. In this paper, we studied the overcurrent characteristics of several HTS conductors so that we could use the selected conductors for the basic design work of a resistive type fault current limiting module as a part of the circuit breaking system. According to the short-circuit test results, we suggested and compared two different basic design parameters of the HTS fault current limiting module, which will be connected in series to the DC circuit breaker.
Marine algae contain a variety of substances, such as mycosporine-like amino acids, which can defend against UV irradiation. Among them, Porphyra-334 derived from Porphyra yezoensis is attracting attention as a novel active ingredient for anti-aging cosmetics because of its excellent anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties through promoting skin cell migration. In this study, a process using direct current (DC) for increasing the yield of large-scale purification of Porphyra-334 was developed. When DC was applied to obtain Porphyra-334 efficiently, the purification time was shortened by approximately 1/4 compared with the process wherein DC was not applied; moreover, the yield of purification was improved.
Hafnium nitride (HfN) thin films were fabricated by mid-frequency magnetron sputtering (mfMS) and direct current magnetron sputtering (dcMS) and their mechanical and structural properties were compared. In particular, changes in the HfN film properties were observed by changing the pulse frequency of mfMS between 5 kHz, 15 kHz, and 30 kHz. The crystalline structure, microstructure, 3D morphology, and mechanical properties of the HfN films were compared by x-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and nanoindentation tester, respectively. HfN film deposited by mfMS showed a smoother and denser microstructure as the frequency increased, whereas the film deposited by dcMS showed a rough and sloppy microstructure. A single δ-HfN phase was observed in the HfN film made by mfMS with a pulse frequency of 30 kHz, but mixed δ-HfN and HfN0·4 phases were observed in the HfN film made by dcMS. The mechanical properties of HfN film made by mfMS were improved compared to film made by dcMS.

A simulation study of a current-mode direct current (DC)-DC buck converter is presented in this paper. The converter, with a fully integrated power module, is implemented by using sense method metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and bipolar complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (BiCMOS) technology. When the MOSFET is used in a current sensor, the sensed inductor current with an internal ramp signal can be used for feedback control. In addition, the BiCMOS technology is applied in the converter for an accurate current sensing and a low power consumption. The DC-DC converter is designed using the standard $0.35\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. An off-chip LC filter is designed with an inductance of 1 mH and a capacitance of 12.5 nF. The simulation results show that the error between the sensing signal and the inductor current can be controlled to be within 3%. The characteristics of the error amplification and output ripple are much improved, as compared to converters using conventional CMOS circuits.
