The stability of liquid ferrate(VI) produced by an innovative method was confirmed and the degradation characteristics of cyclic compounds(Benzene, Aniline, Toluene, 1,4-Dioxane) by liquid ferrate(VI) were investigated under the same reaction conditions. When it was compared with the ferrate manufactured by the wet oxidation method, the liquid ferrate was more stable. And the stability of liquid ferrate was tested at the storage temperature. As a result, only 17.7% of liquid ferrate(VI) has decomposed at the storage temperature($4^{\circ}C$) for 28 days. Among the cyclic compounds, the aniline was rapidly degraded compare to other cyclic compounds, which seems to be due to the electron-donating ability of the substituent, $-NH_2$ group. Especially, when 1,4-dioxane was compared with benzene, the decomposition rate of 1,4-dioxane was lower than that of benzene, suggesting that oxygen atoms hinder the electrophilic reaction. Among 4 cyclic compounds, it was observed that aniline has the highest rate constant than those of other cyclic compounds.

In this study, hemicelluloses were pre-extracted from mixed hardwood chips using sodium hydroxide solution and then they were isolated from pre-extractives by using various solvents. Isolation was conducted by precipitating hemicelluloses with isopropanol, ethanol, 1,4-dioxane, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and potassium hydroxide (KOH), respectively. The precipitate yield on alkali pre-extractives was the highest when hemicelluloses were isolated by DMSO and then precipitated with ethanol. Most precipitates were yellow colored. The efficiency of isolation was evaluated by analysing the characteristics of isolated hemicelluloses. Isolation using DMSO, KOH and 1,4-dioxane ($80^{\circ}C$) showed rather high efficiency. The highest total separation efficiency was about 77% when alkali pre-extractives were reacted with KOH and precipitated with ethanol. The quantity and purity of isolated hemicelluloses were affected by the solvent type.
Regular and highly interconnected macroporous poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffolds with pore size of 10∼300 ㎛ were fabricated through thermally induced phase separation of a PLLA-dioxane-water ternary system in the presence of a small amount of Pluronics. Addition of Pluronics to the ternary system raised the cloud-point temperature curve in the order of P-123< F-68< F-127. The Pluronics act as nuclei for the phase separation. This assistance is enhanced with increasing length of the hydrophilic PEO blocks in the Pluronics molecules. Liquid-liquid spinodal phase separation was induced at higher temperatures in the systems containing Pluronics because the spinodal region is raised to higher temperature. The absorption of Pluronics onto the interface stabilizes a macro scale structure and increases the interconnection of pores.
We examined the inhibitory activity of (1,3-dioxolan-2-yl and 1,3-dioxan-2-yl)methylaminium derivatives(A; 1-8) against acetylcholinesterase. Derivatives of six-membered 1,3-dioxane exhibited more potent inhibitory effect than corresponding 5-membered 1,3-dioxolanes. The presence of methyl group at C4 position of dioxane ring was effective to increase the inhibitory potency of heterocyclic analogues. The activity of N-phenacyl-aminiums was greater than that of N,N,N-trimethyl-aminiums. In general, the terminal methyl group on 1,3-dioxane ring and the phenacyl group in ammonium compound A were assumed to be important factors to enhance the inhibitory action.

Porous poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA) scaffold membranes were prepared via. phase separation process. Chloroform, dichloromethane and 1,4-dioxane were used as solvent and, ethyl alcohol was used as non-solvent. Morphologies, mechanical properties and mass transfer characteristics of the scaffold membranes were investigated through SEM, stress-strain test and glucose diffusion test. The scaffold membranes obtained from the casting solutions with chloroform and with dichloromethane showed similar morphologies. They showed sponge-like porous structure with the pore size in the range of $3-10{\mu}m$ and, their porosities were in 50-80% range. Using 1,4-dioxane as solvent, nano-fibrous scaffold membranes with porosities over 80% were fabricated. When the polymer content in the solution with 1,4-dioxane was lowered to 4%, highly porous, macroporous and nano-fibrous scaffold membranes were obtained. The size of the macropore was tens of the microns and the porosity was around 90%. These results indicate that the solvent has significant effect on the scaffold membrane structure and, that scaffold membranes with various structures can be fabricated through phase separation method by choosing solvent and by controlling polymer concentration in the casting solution.

This research investigates the effects of sonication mode, reaction temperature and volume on sonolysis of 1,4-dioxane in order to increase the degradation efficiency and kinetics. The degradation efficiency in case with pulse mode was about 10 % higher than that in case with continuous mode. The degradation profiles in both cases, which were performed without the control of reaction temperature and in 1000 mL, were composed of three steps. However, 1,4-D was mainly degraded in the initiation step as the first portion and the acceleration step as the second portion. The initial step agreed with zero-order expression well, while the acceleration step could be fitted with pseudo 1st-order expression. The kinetic model in case with $5^{\circ}C$ and 300 mL conformed to pseudo 1st-order, while that in cases with $10^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$ agreed with zero-order expression. The degradation efficiency and profile of 1,4-D in the experiment with $20^{\circ}C$ and 300 mL was higher and simpler than that in case with $20^{\circ}C$ and 1000 mL. The reaction temperature and volume influence bubble intensity, which was produced in sonication. The increase of bubble intensity induced to augment the production of OH radical in sonication.
Stability constants for the complexes of multidentate N,O-Schiff base ligands (bis-(salicylaldehyde)ethylendiamine(SED), bis-(salicylaldehyde)propylendiamine(SPD), bis-(salicylaldehyde)diethylenetriamine(SDT), bis-(salicylaldehyde)triethylenetetraamine(STT), and bis-(salicylaldehyde)tetraethylenepentaamine(STP) with Co(II) and Zn(II) were determined by a potentiometric method in a 70% dioxane-30% water mixture and ethanol, respectively. Stability constants for the complexes increased in the order of SPD

Polyester filaments were dyed with disperse dye in dyebath containing water and water miscible organic solvents . acetone, 1,4-dioxane, DMF. In case of Acetone and 1,4-dioxane, the equilibrium dyeuptake was maximun at the volume fraction 0.05. The equilibrium dye uptakes were decreased as volun~e fraction of organic solvents were increased. When the volume fractions of water miscible organic solvents were varied, dye uptake was increased constantly with dyeing time. In dyebath containing water and water miscible organicsolvent, the dyeuptake was increased quickly during initial 40∼ 60 min. and slowly increased there after. The slope of Ct/Coo to t was greater in dyebath containing water and water miscible organic solvents than dyebath containing water. The differences of the slope with volulne fractions of water miscible organic solvent were not shown big.
A study was made on the radioiodination of organic compounds in presence of hydrogen peroxide both in aqueous and organic solvent systems. In case of the reaction of rosebengal, Hippuran, and 5-iodo-uracil the aqueous reaction system could give high labelling yield within a relatively short reaction time. Labelling yield of average 50% could be obtained within 30 minutes of reaction sequence. In cases of organic solvent systems (D.M.S.O., D.M.F., and Dioxane) the solvent system of D.M.S.O. could give better yield for neutral organic compounds, where as D.M.F. and Dioxane gave better labelling result for acidic materials. Especially, o-iodobenzoic acid, o-iodotoluene, and pentachlorophenol could be labelled better in organic solvent system.
The rate constants for the hydrolysis of benzenesulfonylimido phosgene at various pH were determined by ultraviolet spectrophotometry in 1 : 4 dioxane-water mixed solvents at 25$^{\circ}$C and a rate equation which can be applied over a wide pH range was obtained. Based on the Grunwald-Winstein equation, m = 0.4 was obtained. The thermodynamic activation parameters for the hydrolysis were ${\Delta}H^{\neq}$ = 15kcal mol$^{-1}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ = 21e.u. at pH 4.0 and $ {\Delta}H^{\neq}$ = 8kcal. mol$^{-1}$, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ = -39e.u. at pH 11.0, respectively. It was concluded that the hydrolysis of benzenesulfonylimido phosgene in 1 : 4 dioxane-water mixed solvents proceed via nucleophilic addition-elimination.
